    3. Kincaid Listers, (Those K lister's who are participants in the Kincaid DNA Project will have received the same message as this already so please excuse repeat) Family tree DNA has announced price decreases across the board for their DNA tests as follows for members of the Kincaid Group: Y DNA: Kincaid Group Price Individual Price 12 markers $99 $149 25 markers $124 $179 37 markers $149 $259 67 markers $248 $349 Mt DNA $99 $129 Mt DNA plus $149 $189 It is easy to see why you will want to be part of our Kincaid Group.......especially since you are likely to have Scots blood in you veins! There are various other tests they offer and have reduce the prices on which you can review by going to your personal FTDNA webpage and looking at possible upgrades. We would also like to remind everyone that tests ordered from Ancestry.com and other DNA companies will not use the same alleles or markers that the Kincaid DNA Project uses through Family Tree DNA. The difference for 37 markers is 6 markers so your results from Ancestry could not be directly compared with those of us in the Kincaid DNA Project. I calculated this using the Ancestry 46 marker test and Family Tree's 37 marker tests. For those who have have done a DNA test with another company and want to join our Family Tree project, they have conversion kits available whereby they test the markers Ancestry does not test for so the results can be directly compared with our Kincaid results. We have 2 more new participants to join our Kincaid project and anticipate more soon. 2008 has been a great year for increasing our numbers in the Kincaid Project and we thank all who have helped in this endeavor. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Don W. Kincaid Kincaid Surname DNA Administrator Team donwkincaid@cox.net 254 631-5684

    3. This is good news. I do want to remind everyone that in order for a Group A Kincaid to be placed accurately on the chart a 37 marker test is needed. A 25 marker test works for other Groups though 37 markers is preferable and may be needed as we get more participants in each group or if there is any possibility that the results may indicate a Group A placement. I believe it is cheaper (and definately takes less time) to order the 37 markers initially rather than upgrade at a later date. The 12 marker test has little value unless you suspect a non-Kincaid male in the lineage and want to check on that possibility before committing additional resources for testing. It may also be useful if the testee has a proven line to an ancestor of a current participant who wishes to isolate a mutation which occurs in the first 12 markers. At present there isn't a great advantage in expanding from 37 to 67 markers though a few mutations have shown up that may be helpful as more participants upgrade. As a 67 marker test is significantly more expensive than a 37 marker test holding off on the last 30 markers until a need arises might be prudent.
