Welcome to the list Nancy. The family of John Kincaid and Elizabeth Gilespie have been much discussed on list. You might want to visit the archives to bring you up to speed. We often list males with their spouses in this manner John/Elizabeth Gilespie so try that criterea for a search when looking for information. We are pretty darn sure that John/Elizabeth is the son of Thomas/Hannah Tincher Kincaid. There are several lines from John/Elizabeth represented in the Kincaid DNA project. The contacts are presently working on a post to the list proving the connection. One of the proofs is a court document showing that John, son of Thomas/Hannah lived in Nicholas Co. which is where the Gauley River land was located. Thomas was b c1742 d 1819 Greenbrier Co. VA. We first meet up with him in 1765 Albemarle Co. VA buying land which he and Hannah sell in 1771. He is identified on the deeds as son of a John Kincaid. Hannah is the daughter of Samuel/Margaret Campbell Tincher. Samuel and George Campbell held land in Albemarle Co. and Augusta Co. during the same time period. The land Thomas/Hannah held in Albemarle Co. is located very close to the Amhearst Co. border (now Nelson Co/Albemarle Co. border). You will find much detailed information on Thomas/Hannah in the archives. John/Ann Graham Kincaid is possibly a brother to Thomas/Hannah. This is pure speculation based on the closeness of the 2 families. Also controversial is a father for John and Thomas. One possibility is John/Elizabeth the Weaver (again check the archives) who bought land in Augusta Co. VA in 1754 and is described as "of Albemarle Co." in 1766. This hypothesis is based on the Albemarle Co. reference, the knowledge that Thomas/Hannah's father was named John, the sale of land by John the Weaver to John/Anne, and the use of the name Matthew in the families of John/Elizabeth the Weaver, John/Anne Graham and Thomas/Hannah Tincher. Matthew is not a common Kincaid name and during this time period appears only in these families.
