The only Charles Kinkead, clockmaker of Strabane, that I am aware of flourished in the 1760s. He was then a young man so he was probably born in the early to mid 1730s. He was the eldest son and heir of Robert Kinkead of Island McHugh, County Tyrone, Ireland (later of Corhobber, County Sligo, Ireland). Island McHugh is at the head of Lough Catherine and adjacent to Baronscourt, the seat of the Earls of Abercorn. Robert was deceased by 28 December 1762 and left a widow, Mary who I am quite certain was Charles Kinkead's mother. Charles went bankrupt around 4 July 1769 and appears to have left Ireland. I am uncertain what became of him. I suspect that James Kinkead, clockmaker, of Christiana Bridge, New Castle County, Delaware was a brother of Charles Kinkead of Strabane. There is good circumstantial evidence for this. Best wishes! Peter A. This group of names is quite interesting. My grandfather was Charles Kinkade, who was the son of William, grandson of Arthur, and gr-grandson of Robert b. 1742 in Ireland >PA> Hardin County, KY. I know that Norman can't find him in the Pennsylvania records, but his RW file lists him as being from PA. We have a Mary in every generation. My line is in group A, set 1c. Also, Robert supposedly had a brother James, according to information sent to me quite awhile ago. Barb Van Hout ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter A. Now I'm wondering who Robert's other sons were. And who was his wife? The only reference to Ireland I ever heard my grandfather utter was "Sligo."
