    3. Don has suggested that the list might benefit by knowing where 28835 & 1255 are in vetting their lines back to David & Winnefred. I am taking the liberty of posting a sketchy version of what has been sent to me. Deanne and Amon may want to supply more details. 28835 is vetted to Preston m Katherine Hawkins. Deanne has a preliminary vetting post but is still working on details. There is census data supporting the line. Preston's Social Security Application says he was born 2/4/1885 Sharpsburg, Bath Co. KY. His parents are listed as John and Martha Lemons Kincaid. John Kincaid b 1843 Bath Co. KY d 1920 Mayslick, Mason Co. KY m Martha Lemmons Nov 17, 1877 Harrison Co. KY. Settlement of heirs for James H. Kincaid, Owingsville, KY March 17, 1855 lists John Hawkins Guardian of William Riley, Martha Jane, John, Mary Rebecca, infant heirs of James H. Kincaid James Harvey Kincaid b 1814 Clark Co. KY d 1846 Bath Co. KY m Mary Ann Hawkins 22 Jan 1838 Bath Co. KY. John Hawkins above was her father. James H is listed in application of Rebecca Evans Kincaid for widow's pension based on her husband Robert Kincaid's service. Robert Kincaid b July 24, 1761 Alb Co. VA d Oct 20, 1844 Bath Co. KY. m Rebecca Evans. Listed in family Bible as son of John Kincaid and Elizabeth Logan. There is also a deed sequence showing that this Robert is the same one that was in Washington Co. VA and is son of John/Elizabeth. John Kincaid b Sept 14, 1736 d after 1810 prob Clark KY m 21 April 1756 Alb Co. VA, Elizabeth Logan. The deed sequence refered to above establishes that this John Kincaid was in Washington Co. VA prior to coming to KY. KY deeds establish that this John's wife was Elizabeth. John Kincaid m Elizabeth Logan is son of David and Winnefred Hobson Kincaid. The connection has been discussed a lot on list so I refer you to the archives for data. Clark and Bath Co. KY are separated from each other by Montgomery Co. ______________________ 1255 is vetted to Sherod A Kincaid and Eliza Hughes. Going back is more complicated for Amon as Jackson Co. Ala is a burned county and only sketchy records exist. Sherod is listed in the 1850 Newton Co. Ark census as 29 with wife Eliza, her sister Jane Hughs and 3 of his sons. In the 1860 census Eliza has died and Sherod had married her sister Jane and added 4 more children. Sharod was born in TN c 1820. Both Eliza and Jane were born in Alabama. All children were born in Arkansas, the eldest Jos. P b 1846. Listed above Sherod in the 1850 Arkansas census is Elizabeth Kincade age 54 b NC, widow. In her household are Joseph 20 TN, Nancy 16 Ala, Elizabeth 15 Ala, William 11 Ala. Joseph Kincaid is listed in the 1840 and 1830 Jackson Co. Ala census with members of his household matching Elizabeth's census with the addition of Sharod as male b 1820-1825. There is evidence that Joseph Kincaid of Larkinsville, Jackson Co. Ala organized a wagon train headed for Ark in 1842. There was a movement of people from Franklin Co. to Jackson Co. in the 1820's. The 1820 Franklin Co. TN census lists Joseph 16-26, wife 16-26 and 1 male under 10. Franklin Co. TN is just above Jackson Co. Ala. Next door to Joseph in 1820 is Hobson Kingcade, over 45, with his family. Hobson Kincaid m Sarah McClure about 1782 or 83 in Washington Co. VA. Amon has a time line that follows Hobson and Sarah back to Clark Co. KY where we find the Bible record listing Hobson as son of John & Elizabeth Logan. There doesn't appear to be records for Hobson after 1831 when he goes to Russell Co. VA (Russell from Scott Co. from Washington Co.) to take care of some estate details concerning his wife's inheritance. He can't be found in the 1830 census. Sue Liedtke

    3. How my husband's family fits - I'm not sure. This is what I know: My husband - John Robert Kinkead - born in Martinsburg, WV on 5/27/1947 His father - John Blue Kinkead - born in Springfield, WV on 9/24/1912 - died Hedgesville, WV - died 10/4/1975 in Martinsburg, WV His father - John Andrew Kinkead - born in Glenboig in the Landward of New Monkland in County Lanark Scotland 4/24/1882 (the surname on the birth record was spelled Kinked). he died April 25, 1940 in Hedgesville, WV and is buried in Springfield, WV. He came to the United State when he was 5 and lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area before moving to Springfield WV then to Hedgesville, WV His father - Hugh Kinkaid (the spelling as stated on his death certificated) born 5/25, 1833 in Ireland or Scotland (of this I am not sure). He died 6/22/1922 in Springfield and is buried there. He was married to a Martha Adams or Adamson on December 23, 1870 in Banbrige, Ireland . He came to the USA somewhere between 1882 and1887 to work as a fireman who coke ovens for either making steel or brick. When the depression hit he moved to Springfield WV to farm. His father is John Kinkaid born in Scotland but date is not known nor is any other information known. This is about all I know. I know that John Andrew had two brothers: Hugh(died young and is buried in Springfield) and James who was either a teacher or a lawyer and stayed in the Washington PA area; Martha was too ill to travel when the family left Pa to come to WV so she stayed there was James and some other family friends. She is buried there an I have not been able to find a record of her death or where she is buried. John Andrew also had two sisters Maggie and Annie. Annie married a Field from Springfield and lived there the rest of her life. If anyone has any information to share I would greatly appredicate it. I have a copy of Hugh's marriage record. He married Martha Adams on 23 December 1870. His father's name was given as Hugh Kinkaid, weaver. I will abstract this for you and email it to you in a few days. I'd do it sooner but we lost one of our Kincaids here (my father's sister) so I am side tracked with events relating to this. Best wishes! Peter P.S. If you have a male Kincaid in your family willing to participate in the DNA project I suspect many of us would be thrilled. We are always looking for lines with solid links to a place in the Old World.

    3. As promised the abstract of Hugh's marriage is as follows: On 23 December 1870, Hugh Kinkaid, a full age bachelor weaver of Colenacran; son of Hugh Kinkaid, weaver, was married to Martha Adams, a full age spinster of Colenacran, daughter of Hugh Adams, labourer, at the Scarva St. Presbyterian Church in Banbridge, Seapatrick Parish, County Down, according to the Forms and Discipline of the Presbyterian Church by licence by Robert Andrews. Matha gave her mark. The witnesses were James Jardine and John Andrews [Ireland. Civil Registrations of Marriages. Banbridge District, 1870, vol. 16, p. 265, no. 80; LDS film no. 101568]. The townland of Coolnacran is in Aghaderg Parish, County Down. Hugh Kincaid appears in the Griffiths Valuation (1864) in Aghderg Parish, Coolnacran Townland, Banbridge Union, at map reference 22 d as a tenant of John J. Whyte for a house & small garden valued at £1. The question remains as to whether this is Hugh the son (who married Martha Adams) or his father. We have the following marriage record to expand the family: On 15 May 1866, Hugh Kinkaid, a 50 year old widower labourer of Aghaderg; son of Andrew Kinkaid, farmer, was married to Sarah Jane Lackey, a 33 year old spinster weaver of Belfast, daughter of James Lackey, farmer, at St. Anne's Parish Church in Belfast Parish, County Antrim, according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the United Church of England and Ireland by licence by E. H. Hoare. Sarah Jane gave her mark. The witnesses were Richard Lackey and Ellen Lackey [Ireland. Civil Registrations of Marriages. Banbridge District, 1866, vol. 6, p. 316, no. 73; LDS film no. 101492]. This would appear to be Hugh the father. Although the marriage is in County Antrim it appears that this Hugh was of Aghaderg Parish, County Down. The reason being is that there are abstracts, from Irish Civil Registration records, for the following Kincaids in Aghaderg Parish, County Down (this is based on Internet sources): - Hugh Kinkead and Sarah Jane Leckey/Lackey of Loughbrickland townland, Aghaderg Parish, County Down were the parents of Mary Ann Kinkead (b. 5 Feb 1868) and James Kinkead (b. 19 Jun 1870). - Hugh Kincade and Martha Adamson of Loughbrickland townland, Aghaderg Parish, County Down were the parents of Hugh Kincade (b. 28 Oct 1871). Thus, both were of the same townland. Hugh, the widower, who married Sarah Jane Lackey was old enough to be the father of Hugh who married Martha Adams. It seems quite likely that they are father and son and that Hugh (m. Marth Adams) was the grandson of an Andrew Kincaid. The family would seem to have been in the place for a while. I have the following Kincaid marriage records: - On 22 February 1853, a Margaret Kincaid of Colenacrane, Aghaderg Parish married John McGivern in Banbridge. She was noted as the 22 year old daughter of Andrew Kincaid, farmer. - On 16 June 1854, an Esther Kinkade married a George Riddles, a widower. She was noted as being from Colenacran and was a full age daughter of Andrew Kinkade, farmer. - On 15 September 1854, a George Kinkade married Anne Jane Minnis at Scarva St. Presbyterian Church, Banbridge. He was noted as the son of Andrew Kinkade, farmer and was from Gilford townland, Tullylish Parish, County Down. - On 11 November 1857, Thomas Kinkead, a full age son of Hugh Kinkead, weaver, of Coolnacran (Loughbrickland) married Rebecca Livingston in Tullylish Parish, County Down. - On 28 April 1860, Andrew Kinkade, a full age bachelor son of Hugh Kinkade, labourer, of Kolnacran married Mary Thomson at Ballydown, Seapatrick Parish, County Down. These should give you some leads for further research. I note the following site of interest to you: http://www.raymondscountydownwebsite.com/html/loughbrickland1.htm I hope this helps. Best wishes!
