Sue, I am really interested in learning more about #139833. He is in our group C set 2. This is what I have in my records: 16491, John Kincaid, son of Thomas & Mary Mackey 139833, Samuel Kincaid, son of Thomas & Mary Mackey 79672, John Kincaid & Martha Hill, brother of Thomas & Mary Mackey 44937, Samuel Kincaid & Sarah Reed, brother of Thomas & Mary Mackey Thus, 16491 & 139833 are descendants of Thomas Kincaid m. Mary Mackey, and 79672 and 44937 come through Thomas' brothers. Does that mean that the variance would begin with Thomas Kincaid? Hi Sue, Alice. This is quite interesting. I just checked my personal FTDNA site and found a recent exact match on 37 markers posted with Andrew William Kincaid. But I checked the excel Kincaid DNA chart listed in your email and did not find the results for 139833 entered yet. What do we know about his geneology besides his being the son of Samuel Kincaid son of Thomas and Mary Mackey? Does he report any record of being descended from Robert/Margaret Doherty m 1745, or did he learn that from our project? I have not as yet sent an updated chart to Alice for posting. I do not know whether 139833 believes descent from Thomas/Mary Mackey. His claim is to Samuel/Phoebe Van Pelt. I know nothing more on his claimed heritage. IF (note the captitals) all 3 of the claiments to Robert/Margaret Doherty are correct in their lineage AND the mutation at marker 34 is the result of a single incident THEN Samuel would need to be a grandson of Thomas/Mary Mackey by the same son as 16491. Thomas would not have had that mutation because 79672 does not have the mutation. IF Samuel and your ancestor are brothers and both sons of Thomas/Mary Mackey AND the mutation is from a single incident THEN 79672 cannot be a descendent of Thomas/Mary Mackey as Thomas would have had that mutation and would have passed it to ALL his sons. Note that in both cases the assumption is that the mutation was from a single incident. CDYa is very volitile so this assumption may not be correct. If it is not correct and the 35 is the result of separate incidents then 139833 could possibly connect to John/Martha Hill b c1754 before he connects to others. Given the PA notation and the lack of the mutation to 24 at marker 2 (DYS390) I doubt he would connect directly to the VA family before connecting to the others. We also may not have discovered all the C-2 lines. So far we seem to have a VA grouping whose earliest ancestors were Samuel b c1700 and George b c1720 and a PA grouping whose earliest known ancestors are Robert/Margaret Doherty b c1720-5 and John/Martha Hill b c1754. What is needed is documentation by all claiments showing the connections to Robert/Margaret Doherty, particularly those through son Thomas/Mary Mackey. If 79672 is indeed from Samuel, brother of Thomas/Mary Mackey instead of a son of Thomas/Mary Mackey and all have their lineages correct, then indeed, Thomas/Mary Mackey is the most likey source of the mutational variance. At one point I was under the impression that 79672 claimed to Thomas/Mary Mackey. If this is not correct (as the DNA seems to indicate) then I will gladly indicate that on the chart.
