    3. The article linked below contains a photo taken in "Kincaid Park" supposedly in Juneau, AK. The first governor of Alaska was John Henry KinKEAD. I'm wondering whom the KinCAID park was named after. Any idea? Where could I find out? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090108/ap_on_re_us/alaska_extreme_cold Dick Kinkead 2562 A1a Lantana, FL

    3. Dick, I have been to Kincaid Park in Anchorage, (which I believe is in Juneau County), and found it a beautiful park, well deserving of the name! I tried at that time to learn about the source of the name, but was unsuccessful. It may well have been, alas, another presumption that the name "Kinkead" is really spelled "Kincaid". 11:20 AM, Richard Kinkead wrote: > The article linked below contains a photo taken in "Kincaid Park" > supposedly in Juneau, AK. 3. John Henry Kinkead was not the first governor of Alaska; he was the first Governor of the District of Alaska. Following the purchase from Russia, Alaska was known as the Department of Alaska (administered by Army, Treasury, and then Navy personnel) until 1884, and then became known as the District of Alaska.), which preceded Alaska Territory and then statehood by some 70 years. He had previously been Governor of Nevada. The first Governor of the state, in 1959, was William Egan. Bill Kincaid Ann Arbor, MI'
