    1. [KINCAID] Lynn Mayes, Kincaid researcher & Kincaid Gathering May 28-June 1
    2. Don & Pat Kincaid
    3. I would like to find and email or phone or address for Lynn Mayes. She provided me with lots of descendants of Joseph Kincaid/Kinkead info a few years back and I want to invite her to the Kincaid Gathering in late May. We would like to extend an invitation to all Kincaid researchers so have included the info below for schedule and reservations. You are cordially invited to join us at our Kincaid Gathering. It would be nice to meet many we have emailed and phoned over the past few years. Pardon the late invite but things did not come together until recently. Kincaids from several states are coming to the Kincaid Gathering where we will be honoring our ancestors by visiting Kincaid Cemetery and lands where they lived in Kentucky and Virginia as well as visiting historic places they had connections with. There will be lots of time set aside for meeting and visiting. There is still room for you to join us for any or all of the gathering! Reservations phone numbers and contact info for Motel & RV parks will be listed at the end of the email. The Comfort Inn in Berea and the Oh! Kentucky RV park are selected places to stay for the 28th and 29th. For those coming early to work in restoring Kincaid Cemetery you will get the same discount at the Comfort Inn. Linda Ashley’s brother Ben, a retired mason, who did lots of volunteer work on the stones in Kincaid Cemetery recently passed away. I am taking my masonry tools with me and will arrive a few days before the start of the gathering and would welcome any help. Linda Ashley said there are a lot of leaning stones that need to be repositioned as well as putting some broken ones together. SCHEDULE Saturday May 28: 8:00 AM: breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Berea, KY and a get acquainted session. 9:00 AM: Informal history of Kincaids session at Comfort Inn 10:00 AM: Break 10:20 AM: depart for Big Hill to pay our respects to William Kincaid who was killed in an ambush by Indians and take a look at the view of the lands of our ancestors from the top of Big Hill. 12:00 PM: Lunch at historic Boone Tavern in Berea 1:30 PM: Depart for a tour of Fort Boonesborough and museum We plan to have a short Kincaid session while at Fort Boonesborough. 4:30 The rest of the day is free for you to visit, shop or whatever Sunday May 29: Visiting at breakfast at Comfort Inn, Berea We have been invited to worship at the Mt. Zion Christian Church. Sunday School is at 10 and worship at 11:00 and potluck lunch afterwards. You may bring a dish or send money to Linda Ashley who will buy something for your potluck item. Below is a short note that Linda wrote about Mt. Zion and it’s connection to Kincaid’s. Linda needs a count of those who plan to stay for the potluck lunch by May 21. The Kincaids donated the land that Bethel Church was built on in 1813. (John Kincaid, Jr. - a part of the Mounce grant). Bethel Church eventually became Mt. Zion Church when the present building was built in 1848. I assume that the Kincaids belonged to Bethel and I believe the Kincaid Cemetery served the Bethel church, since many of the interred seem to have no family connection to the Kincaid Family. Dress is more or less business casual. It is a country congregation, so we don't dress up as much as a city church, but we don't usually wear shorts, etc. Pants for women are fine and common. Men sometimes wear coats and ties, but for a music Sunday where we will be eating outside afterward (weather permitting), I expect open necked shirts or golf shirts. 1:30 PM Kincaid History session and talk about the Battle of Richmond followed by a tour of Battlefield Park 3:30 tour Kincaid Cemetery where we will have a short service in honor of our Kincaids and allied families Evening meal to be announced Monday, May 30: 7:30 Breakfast in Berea at Comfort Inn 8:30 Depart for old Fort Harrod 12:00 lunch in Harrodsburgh with place to be announced 1:00 Short meeting at restaurant to say goodbye to those not continuing on to Virginia. 1:15 depart for Virginia with possible stop at Wilson’s Station which is still standing and likely where James Kincaid came calling on his future bride Sarah Wilson We will follow the Wilderness Road route most of the journey to the Cumberland Gap and on to Kingsport, TN. We may stop at a couple of historic or fun places. 5:00 Arrive at Marriot Hotel in Kingsport. The hotel needs to have your reservations no later that May 18! RV’ers will stay at Warriors' Path State Park PO Box 5026 Hemlock Road Kingsport , TN 37663 Office: 423-239-8531 5:30 Evening meal at Riverfront Seafood Company followed by a tour of the historic Netherland Inn arranged by Bob Langford. Tuesday May 31: Breakfast on you own. 8:15 depart Kingsport for Natural Tunnel State Park and ride the chair lift for great views. 10:30 depart for Castlewood following the Clinch River to John Kincaid’s land. 12:00 Lunch at Ma & Pa’s Restaurant Hwy 58, Castlewood, VA 24224 Optional route to Castlewood via Abingdon for those who want to visit Parks Mill which is a historical mill well worth seeing. 1:00 depart for John Kincaid/Kinkead’s land on the Clinch West of Castlewood, then to some of the old fort sites like Moore’s Fort where John Kincaid and family stayed the same Winter Daniel Boone and family stayed, then head to Albemarle County, the first known place we find Joseph Kincaid/Kinkead in the colonial records. Since some plan to vist Jefferson or Madison’s historical homes we will travel to Albemarle County on our own, allowing choices of roads to whichever place they are going. No evening meal gathering tonight due to visits to different sites of interest. Choice of motel close to Kincaid lands in Western Albemarle County is The Afton Inn, a fabulous place atop the Blue Ridge Mountains with an outstanding view of the Kincaid lands or choose a motel in Charlottesville about 15 miles from Kincaid lands but closer to Jefferson’s Monticello and Madison’s Montpelier.
