    3. -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Van Hout Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2011 1:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KINCAID] David Kincaid, Indiana Warrant 1829 The Bureau of Land Management has upgraded its website for land records. There are several records for John H. (Hodge) Kincaid who bought land in Tippecanoe County earlier than David Kincaid of Bath County, VA,, as early as 4/3/1829. . http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx It may be that David Kincaid went to Indiana to visit his son John and daughter Elizabeth Wanless, and then returned to Virginia. David Kincaid a. 60-70 was in the 1830 Bath County, VA census, with 3 males 1 a. 10-15; 1 a. 20-30; 1 a. 40-50; and David, a. 60-70. There was 1 F a. 10-15 and 1 F a. 50-60 in his household. The 1820 Bath County, VA census, dated Dec. 25, 1820, shows David Kincaid a. 45+ with 6 males (sons?) 2 a. to 10; 2 a. to 16; 1 a. 16-18; 1 a. 16-26; David a. 45+. There were 3 females, 2 a. to 10 and and 1 a. 45+ in his household. He was just below Charles and Ferdinand Kincaid in this census. Several Gwinn families are shown below David on this page. The Wanless Web has much information about David Kincaid/Sarah Hodge of Bath County, VA. It gives the records that prove John H. Kincaid's sister married Stephen Wanless in Bath County, VA and this family was also in Tippecanoe County in 1830, just above John Kincaid in this census. http://www.wanlessweb.org/ The 1830 Federal Census for John H. Kincaid, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, Randolph Township, shows two males age 20-30 in the household, 1 male under 5 and 1 female a. 20-30. Does anyone know who her parents were?" ◦From Doug McGuire : (www.wanlessweb.org) "I believe it can be proven beyond a doubt, through land, estate and marriage records, that John H and Elizabeth are bro and sis. I have seen federal land records, purchases out of the Crawfordsville, IN federal land office, that tie John H Kincaid to Bath County, VA. The time frame was around 1828-1830. His father David also purchased Tippecanoe County land but appears to have never lived there. He sells the land to John a few years later. Finding the VA ancestry of William J. Kincaid was one of my toughest challenges. The obscure clue I had was that John H Kincaid purchased land in Carroll County, Indiana, and then sold it about 1837. WJK marries in Carroll County in 1844 and then appears in the 1850 census. So, it appears that John H Kincaid & Stephen Wanless and family came to Tippecanoe County around 1830. The Carroll County land where JHK owned land, and where WJK settled are very close to each other, and less than ten miles from where JHK was in Tippecanoe County. It was an secluded obituary in the Western Christian Advocate, a weekly paper published by the Methodist church that revealed that WJK came to Carroll County around 1837 with his mother Rachel. Since the obit, I have determined that his mother was Rachel Hicklin and his father Archibald Kincaid, of Augusta County." The John Hodge information was posted March 16, 2000 by Evaleen Flanders Hoeller. This family moved to King Co., Washington. Indiana may have been a stop before moving on to IA. I think Barb found a census record in Montgomery Co. IND, which is where Crawfordsville is that might shed a bit more light. Thomas/Isabella Kincaid Kincaid also had a son David b 1784 whom I don't know much about. 3. Thanks Barb. This fills in more of David's family. Since all the DNA samples proven to John of Bath are through son Charles, it would be nice to have a sample from this line. It should match as we know that William b 1806 of Gasconade Co. MO was not the son of Charles therefore must either represent the line of another of John of Bath's sons or that of a brother or cousin of some degree. Archibald/Rachel Hickland Kincaid refered to as the father of William J Kincaid toward the end of your post was the son of Thomas/Isabella Kincaid Kincaid. William J would have been a first cousin to John Hodge Kincaid. Isabella was the daughter of John of Bath. Thomas is thought to have been a brother of William/Agnes, proven son of Thomas/Margaret Lockhart Kincaid d 1750. We do not have a DNA sample from this line. 3. I have the book "Abstracts of the Wills and Inventories of Bath County, Virginia, 1791-1842" by Jean Randolph Bruns. I will post a few records for the David Kincaids and the will of Thomas/Isabella Kincaid of Bath County. p. 203 in the above book: "Two bonds by David G. Kincaid and John W. Gwin for $200 each to John D. Hamilton, John Graham, Samuel Lewis and James Brown, gentlemen justices, June 8, 1841 to pay Mary Kincaid and Margaret Kincaid, orphan children of Thomas Kincaid, their estate when of age." p. 198 in the above book: "Will of Thomas Kincaid (kaid) (X) Dated May 1, 1840 Wit: John Stephenson, Adam Stephenson, William Robertson Probated June 1840 Exec: brother-in-law Charles L. Kincaid and friend Adam Stephenson Beq: to daughter Jane bay mare, saddle and bridle to daughter Nancy a horse, saddle and bridle to son David all the horses in his possession, three in number to daughter Sarah, a horse, saddle and bridle to daughter Margaret a bay colt, saddle and bridle to daughter Mary young colt, saddle and bridle to beloved wife Sarah 2 slaves Philip and Vicey, as long as they are obedient, otherwise they are to be hired out; all other real and personal property any money equally to wife and daughters. Was the above Thomas Kincaid married twice, first to Isabella Kincaid, and second to Sarah ?
