I have tried to track the sources in the past and only go around in a circle. I think I find a source and then find that when I track it further someone got it from Herbert C. Kincaid. Very frustrating. The George Kinkead killed on Jackson River in 1756 was married to Elizabeth Dean and had a son Samuel from whom the line I research descends. Through some non-concrete evidence, George and Elizabeth Dean appear to have also had a son John who in turn also named a son Samuel. I cannot find where Herbert C. Kincaid states that Samuel was the eldest son. I can only find that he calls them four brothers without saying who was born when or he says Samuel and his brothers. I will re-read it again very carefully to see where I might have missed the age reference. To hypothesize further, perhaps the name Samuel came into favor from Alexander's wife's father? This could be true if Samuel was in fact NOT the eldest. I'm in the middle of re-painting the house, remodeling a bathroom etc and have dust everywhere.
