Kincaid, 88, of Rockton died at 6:26 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in his own home. He was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Martinez, Calif., to Earl J. Kincaid and Rosamond (Garner) Kincaid. James was raised after the age of 2 by his father and the help of many family members. During the Depression, they left to return to Beloit, Wis., but ended up with a couple of years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School while in the service in 1941. While a member of the high school's ROTC program and being a member of the National Guard he was enlisted into the U.S. Army at the age of 17. During World War II, he spent most of his enlisted time in the Pacific in the area of Buna and New Guinea. He was awarded the Silver and Bronze stars as well as other medals. He returned to the United States in 1945. After returning, he became a plumber and was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 23. After being discharged from the service, he was married and had three children, Earl (Lonna) Kincaid of Irving, Texas, Mary Lynn (Ed) Mygland of Long Island, N.Y., and Evan (Debby) of Glendale, Ariz. They gave him eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and twin great-grandsons. In 1977, he married Sandra (Maggie) Burk-Stien and gained three more children, Daniel (Karen) Stien of Waunakee, Wis., Rebecca (Rich Hastings) Stien of Rockton and Douglas (deceased). He coached Little League and was a Scout leader. In the past, besides singing in the church choir in California, he was a member of the Beloit Barber Shoppers. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge in California and member of the Rockton and Roscoe Masons. He also belonged to Disabled American Veterans and Walter Graham American Legion Post 332 in Rockton. He enjoyed doing genealogy with his wife and at one time belonged to two genealogy societies. He was a member of the "Wild Ones" and with his wife had his own little native garden. He also belonged to the Rockton Township Historical Society. His favorite pastime was fishing, which he enjoyed doing with his best friend, Howard Jadderstrom. Even with all this, his favorite thing to do was just to spend time and do things with his wife and grandchildren. Besides his family listed above, he is survived by his grandchildren, Sarah and Travis Kincaid, Jesse (Kari) Mygland, and their children, Kjersti, Seth and Bjorn, Marieke Mygland, Lise Mygland, Justin, Eric and Skye Kincaid; his second set of grandchildren, Tracy Acker and Derek Stien, Erie (fiancé Gary Thonn), and children, Olivia and Joey, Abby, Tammy and Thomas Hunt. He would like to give special thanks to Becky's children, without whose help he would not have been able to have stayed at home. He especially wants to thank his granddaughters, Abby and Tammy, who put their lives on hold to care for him these past several months. James was predeceased by his beloved father while he was serving in World War II; and by Douglas Stien from his second family. He and his family would also like to thank his family physician, Dr. Joseph Ross, who was always there for encouragement and support. A big thank-you to our friend and chiropractor, Dr. Bradley Reich, who came weekly to visit and help Jim be more comfortable. Also a thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice, which helped with his care.
