I found the above summary of family for William Hamilton, W9059 VA. Here is more information from his RW papers: William Hamilton entered service as a ranger and spy with the Virginia troops, as follows: in 1776, eight months in Captain Rennick’s company; in 1777, four months in Captain McCoy’s company; in 1778, four months in Captain Donnely’s company. All of his service was in Colonel Andrew Hamilton’s regiment, who was the brother of the soldier. William Hamilton, in the spring of 1781, went to Kentucky on a visit and enlisted at Harrodsburg, served in Captain James Harrod’s company, was in a campaign under General G. R. Clark (that would be George Rogers Clark), crossed the Ohio at Louisville, went to the Wabash and the Illinois, length of this service six months. This next information came from his wife Ruth: She was in the Gallatin Co, KY court in 1848, aged 88 years. She said that her maiden name was Ruth Wilson. They married Jan. 12, 1783 in Botetourt County. The license was obtained in Greenbrier, but for want of a preacher, they had to travel 50 or 60 miles to Botetourt to be married by a Rev. Smith. Those she remembered who were at their wedding were Mary Walker, Andrew Hamilton, and a woman named Boggs. Ruth said that they moved first to Woodford County, KY in 1789 and a few years later moved to Boone County, KY, where William died about April 8, 1834.
