I do not know why this is listed like this but it is not correct as far as I know. This James Madison was the son of John Kincaid/Nancy Young. I imagine that the person who added the listing did it incorrectly. I have been to that cemetery and others in the area, as well as several in the area of Fincastle, TN. John Kincaid's brother Thomas Kincaid had a daughter named Nancy Young Kincaid and she married John Major Grimes, so these 2 people could have been confused for the same person, though I do not know where the Smith came from. I am a great-great granddaughter of James Madison Kincaid, b. 20 Aug 1804 married to Sarah Ann Craven. The confusion of the two John Kincaids married to a Nancy keeps resurfacing in family histories. I don't know why the Nancy Grimes Young name was ever invented- This seems to surface from death records at the Kincaid cemetery in Knoxville, Ray CO, MO.. There is absolutely no known documents to attach the Young name to Nancy Melinda Grimes who was married to John Milton Kincaid, b. 19 March, 1854. This John Milton Kincaid is a grandson of John Kincaid/ Nancy Young - the son of Alfred Kincaid. There were several different Kincaid's who married into the Grimes family, also the Yoakum family, and VanBebber family. I believe that the name that the confusion started with John Kincaid/Nancy Young and his brother Thomas Kincaid/Martha Wyatt. Thomas and Martha named one of their duaghters after their sister-in-law Nancy Young Kincaid by naming her also Nancy Young Kincaid. This younger Nancy Young Kincaid then married John Major Grimes, and so becamse Nancy Young Kincaid Grimes. However she was never a Smith. So we actually had John and Nancy Young Kincaid, and John and Nancy Young Grimes. A cousin of Nancy Young Kincaid Grimes named Nancy Melinda Grimes also married into the Kincaid by marrying John Milton Kincaid. It seems that Kincaid mean must lave like Grimes women as my ggrandfather Thomas Asbury Kincaid also married a Grimes by marrying Josephine Idella Kincaid. Whatever I think that there were about 6 or more marriages between these 2 familys/ Meredith Kincaid ________________________________ From: Dorothy Eichbaum <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, January 7, 2011 11:06:11 PM Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Morgantown, WV Kincaids / I am a great-great granddaughter of James Madison Kincaid, b. 20 Aug 1804 married to Sarah Ann Craven.
