These records for Moses McElvain are in the 3rd Volume of Chalkley's Chronicles. They indicate that Moses was married to Margaret Hodge, daughter of Samuel Hodge/wife Elizabeth. Proved, 21st March, 1775, by the McDonalds. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/augusta/court/3court13.txt I am interested in the McDonald connections to Samuel Hodge because my gr-grandfather was William McDonald Kinkade, son of Arthur Kinkade/Emily Jamison of Richland Co, IL and Hardin/Hart counties, KY. Arthur was the youngest child of Robert/Mary who died in Hardin County. -----Original Message----- From: Sue Liedtke Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2012 9:05 AM To: kincaid@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Marriages for Raphoe Diocese in Donegal, Ireland I believe the discussion on John & Elizabeth McIlwaine speculated that he was John the Weaver. The 1734 marriage date would be about right. In 1763 James Lockridge sold to Moses McElvan 1/4th of P&L's track 17 on the Great Calf Pasture. Another 1/4th of tract 17 was sold by court order in 1753 to William Kincaid, son of Thomas d 1750 and Margaret Lockhart. Thomas Kincaid, blacksmith (whom we believe was brother to the above Wm) ends up with the land Moses bought. The other 1/2 of tract 17 lies next to the land John the Weaver bought from John the Clerk. Connecting Moses to Elizabeth of Raphoe Parrish may provide some justification for the speculation. I have not gone through Chalkley for McIlwaine/McElvan references as the name does not appear signifcant in connection with those surnames I did pull. It might be interesting to find out if McIlwaine researchers have done any substantive research shedding light on Augusta Co. and Raphoe Parrish families.
