    3. Dennis, The other deeds for the Beverly Manor land and a bit about the contenders need to be added in order to establish which John and Andrew are dealing with each other. . >From your work. AUG 8/19/1766 DB 13-34 Robert Kinkead and Anna Helena to Matthew Kinkead, 72 pounds, 174 1/2a part of 334a conveyed to Robert by James Bratton, 20 Apr 1763, on draught of Chrisitian Creek. AUG C3-500 08/ /1770 Above 174 1/2a delivered to Thomas Kinkead AUG C3-513 08/20/1771 Matthew Kinkead and Elizabeth to John Kinkead his father, 174 1/2a part of 334a in Beverly Manor on draft of Christian's Creek, corner Lewis. (No monetary amt in clip) AUG C3-518 12/07/1771 John Kinkead and Elizabeth to John Kinkead Jr., 174 1/2a etc. (No monetary amt in clip). AUG 8/24/1772 DB 21-119 John Kinkead Junr and Ann his wife to Philip Fogle, 50 pounds, 174 1/2a etc. witnesses: Louis Bowyer, Christerfer Graham This is thought to be John Kinkead and Ann Graham. Her father was John Graham who held P&L tract 15 on the Great Calf Pasture. (John the Weaver's land was on P&L tract 18) His 1771 will names wife Elizabeth and children James, Lanty, John, Ann, Jane, Rebecca, Robert, Betty and Florence The will was proved by John Kinkade & John Armstrong In my notes I have that John & Ann married about 1769. I do not know where this came from but it seems reasonable. Daughter Elizabeth m in 1788 Wm Hopkins Grbr Co., son Lanty m Catherine Scott 1798 Bath Co., daughter Sally m James Thompson 1796 Grbr Co, daughter Rebecca m Andrew Kincaid in 1803 Grbr Co.(son of Andrew Kincaid & Mary), son Matthew m Betsy Scott in 1804 Bath Co. They may also have had a son Robert m Ann Elliot 1810 but that has been contested. John/Ann held land on Jackson River 1774-1784. They owned land on Indian Creek Grbr Co. 1774-1797 and on Anthony Creek Grbr Co. 1796-1807. The deed for the last of the Anthony Creek land is the only one Ann does not sign. All of their children eventually move to the Muddy Creek area for at least a little bit of time. Rebecca and her husband Andrew sold their Muddy Creek land soon after purchase (from Francis Kincaid, son of Thomas/Hannah), continuing to live on Anthony Creek until death. There is considerable inter-action between John/Ann's children and those of Thomas/Hannah Tincher Kincaid whose daughter's married sons of Danial Hurrah who held land in Albemarle Co. 1771-1775 near land held by Thomas/Hannah (son of a John) 1765-1771, Matthew/Elizabeth Kincaid 1765-1773, Jean (widow of James Kincaid) 1765-1784, John Kincaid (no wife named) 1764-1768, and Andrew 1764-1769. Thomas/Hannah bought land at the head of the GCP from Hannah's father. This land was next to land owned by Andrew/Jean and William/Eleanor Gay. Although we can not get the children of Thomas/Hannah through vetting, those who research their family are quite certain of their identity. Almost all, including the daughters who m Harrah, have sons named Matthew. Andrew/Mary did not have a son named Matthew nor did their children name children Matthew. Andrew/Mary held Little Calf Pasture land 1765-1777, Jackson River land 1780-1795, near Indian Creek 1796-1798, and Anthony Creek 1793-death in 1810. So yes I agree, we may have at least 2 sets of siblings named John & Andrew but which John Jr is the son of John the Weaver? and which Andrew is brother to which John? Their are 2 contenders each of which has circumstantial evidence for the connection. By the way both John/Ann and John/Margaret have a descendent who is A-1a as do Capt. Wm/Eleanor, Andrew/Mary, and Thomas/Hannah. John of Bath's descendents are Group D. Andrew/Mary and John/Margaret lines both have the marker four 11. The others do not though we don't have a DNA line from Andrew/Jean or Matthew/Elizabeth.. 3. Sue, thanks for that. One thing that has always bothered me is where is James of JtW after 1772? And where is the James of JoB at all? I understand the DNA groupings are a tremendous hurdle, but why do we not see two sets of like named sons making records later on? If the James of JtW dies early, it seems more than a coincidence that the James of JoB also leaves no records at all except for the mention in the 1801 will. And who are the parents of either JtW or JoB? Rev. John has no known family, yet he buys over 1000 acres and apparently lives on it for 9 years, until he deeds half to JtW (witnessed maddeningly, by a John and Andrew that have to be older than the 1760s men of the same names). How does a Reverend farm a tract that large without help? Who is on that land prior to Rev. John moving to Chester Co. in 1753? Could JtW be his son? How does JoB fit in if he is different? It is an amazing coincidence that JtW and JoB (each with wife Elizabeth and like named sons) each have tracts on directly opposite sides of Shenandoah Mountain (which separates the Calfpasture and Cowpasture valleys). Both tracts were in Augusta until Bath was formed. (Bath county line runs E-W across Shenandoah mountain, then south through the middle of Walker Mountain). Also maddening is why the Augusta clerks didn't clarify these two families with like named wives and sons, living only a few miles apart? That is, if there really were two such families? Something is still majorly wrong with the pieces as we have fit them.
