    1. Re: [KINCAID] Francisco Family
    2. Barbara Van Hout
    3. John Francisco was married to Elizabeth Strother Lewis, the daughter of John Lewis and Margaret Banks. John Lewis's children were Thomas Lynn Lewis, John Banks Lewis, Charles Augustus Lewis, and Elizabeth Strother Lewis. This John Lewis was in Dunmore's War of 1774. Land in Warm Springs, Virginia is included in this case. This information is in the Library of Virginia chancery cases for heirs of John Lewis in the Augusta County, VA records. Image 51/63 indicates that John Francisco and his wife Elizabeth Lewis lived in Kentucky in August, 1804. Search under the name Francisco. Also an earlier case for George Franciscus indicates that George and John were the sons of Christopher Franciscus/Francisco, the younger, son of Christopher Franciscus of Lancaster County, PA. Some of these Franciscos migrated from Germany to Lancaster Co. PA to Augusta Co. VA (1740s) to Woodford Co. KY (1780s) to Saline Co. MO. (1840). My Kinkead line also has ties to Lancaster Co. 1. [KINCAID] William Wallace Kincaid documents
    2. Norman Kincaide
    3. Dear Kincaid listers, I have had recent email correspondence with a John Freischlag of Wilson, NY. I received an email from him asking if the I would be interested in preserving a collection of documents pertaining to William Wallace Kincaid who died in Niagara County, NY in 1948. John scanned some of the documents and sent them via email. Needless to say I was very excited to find out that there was a Xerox paper sized box full of documents pertaining to William Wallace Kincaid's Spirella Corporation and some genealogical information as well. This box was in the attic of the Kincaid house which was later owned by John's wife's family. Although I would love to be going through that box myself, I advised John that the collection really needs to stay in New York or Pennsylvania as it pertains to the history of that area. I recall writing to the Niagara County, NY historical society to see if they had a William Wallace Kincaid collection and they said no. This, indeed, was a wonderful find. There is a hand written note apparently by William Wallace Kincaid that states that he did not know the names of his grandfather John Kincaid's parents who came to Erie County, PA about 1800. He corresponded with the Clerk of Courts in Cumberland County, PA. But he didn't investigate what was at the Erie County Court House where his great-grandfather's estate papers were filed under John Kinkead, of Union Township, Erie County, PA. Anyway, I'd sure like to be going through that box of Kincaid papers right now. But technology is wonderful and John Freisclag has been able to share some of this information with me. Sincerely Norman Kincaide

    3. I received an email from Amon Kincaid stating he had met a fellow who told him his brother was named Kincade Caldwell. Amon asked if they had any Kincade ancestors and he said yes but did not remember the specific ones. After all the discussion on the Kincaid List about Kincaid/Kincade/Kinkead Caldwell, son of Ann Kincaid Caldwell, over the years it is eerie that Amon has found a current one! Amon will see the brother of Kincade Caldwell tomorrow and will show him some of the discussions from the past. Is there currently anyone on the Kincaid List who descends from the original Kincaid Caldwell’s mother? Don

    3. Lifford, County Donegal is just on the border with County Tyrone. It is really just across the river from Strabane. Baronscourt is only about 9 miles southeast. The reason that Rev. Joseph Kinkead is said to have been born in Drumboy/Drumbuoy is because this is what is stated in the Fasti of the Irish Presbyterian Church and in the history of Killinchy, County Down where he preached (Killinchy: A brief history of Christianity in the District). It was noted to me that the Fasti article drew on his death notice in the Belfast Newsletter on 26 July 1782. I have yet to get a copy of this. Perhaps some of you have access to the newspaper database for the Belfast Newsletter and can post it. The Drumboy near Lifford is literally adjacent to Lifford (almost directly north). Just above Drumboy is Edenmore which is the estate of the Cochranes of Edenmore. This is the family that Rev. Joseph Kinkead married into. While they note this Drumboy, I have often wondered if this was a misplacement. There is also a Drumboy near Newtown Cunningham. There were Kinkeads in this townland in the mid 1700s. There was also a Drumnabuoy adjacent to Stragullin (south of Strabane). There were Kinkeads there as well. The Will abstract of John Kinkead of Island McHugh mentions his brother Rev. Joseph Kinkead. Island McHugh is at Baronscourt. Rev. Joseph Kinkeads grandson left family history of the family and he places the family first about Baronscourt. This is why I refer to them as the Baronscourt Kinkeads. If it can be proven that they were dominant in another area before that, I would refer to them as a branch of that line. Best wishes! John Gwynn of Lifford, County Donegal, married a McElwaine...See paragraphs below. Why is it believed that Rev. Joseph Kincaid was born in County Donegal if the Baronscourt Kincaids were in the County Tyrone records at that time?

The 1734 marriage date would be about right. In 1763 James Lockridge sold to Moses McElvan 1/4th of P&L's track 17 on the Great Calf Pasture. Another 1/4th of tract 17 was sold by court order in 1753 to William Kincaid, son of Thomas d 1750 and Margaret Lockhart. Thomas Kincaid, blacksmith (whom we believe was brother to the above Wm) ends up with the land Moses bought. The other 1/2 of tract 17 lies next to the land John the Weaver bought from John the Clerk. Connecting Moses to Elizabeth of Raphoe Parrish may provide some justification for the speculation. I have not gone through Chalkley for McIlwaine/McElvan references as the name does not appear signifcant in connection with those surnames I did pull. It might be interesting to find out if McIlwaine researchers have done any substantive research shedding light on Augusta Co. and Raphoe Parrish families.
