    3. Ha, yes, Martha would have been born about 1797 in Bath Co. VA. Here’s the source for the children of Joseph Kinkead. From Woodford County, Kentucky - Will Book L (1826-1828): “Indenture made 15 Sep 1827 between Isaac Whittington, Deputy Sheriff for Thomas Stevenson, Sheriff of Woodford County, of the one part, and John U Waring, of the other part, whereas an execution of the Woodford County Court office on 30 Aug 1827, in favor of John U Waring against the heirs and administrators of Joseph Kinkead, dec'd for the sum of $300, with interest, and the said heirs nor said administrator having no personal estate, he levied the same upon the interest of the said heirs in a tract of land descended to their ancestor by their grandfather, John Kinkead, dec'd, which was valued to $60, and upon their interest in some ground in the Town of Versailles adjoining the public square, being part of the public square as conveyed to said Joseph Kinkead, dec'd, and part of Lots No 124 and No 5 in said town, being all the remaining ground not heretofore conveyed from the said Kinkead and which by his death was cast upon his heirs. The tracts sold at public auction, where the said John U Waring was the highest bidder for the lands. Now the said Whittington conveys to the said John U Waring all the right, title, and interest of the said heirs of the said Joseph Kinkead, dec'd in the 40 acres of land lying upon Lees Branch and described in the will of the said John Kinkead, dec'd and to the ground in Versailles, said execution is against John D Kinkead, adm of Jos Kinkead, and as one of the co-heirs with Nancy Kinkead, widow of the said Joseph Kinkead, dec'd, and William Kinkead, Thomas Kinkead, Adam Kinkead, Margaret Kinkead, and Nancy Kinkead, children and co-heirs of the said Joseph Kinkead, dec'd. Isaac Whittington, DS for Thos Stevenson, SWC” From: Deanne Kincaid Sent: ‎December‎ ‎12‎, ‎2012 ‎3‎:‎49‎ ‎PM To: kincaid@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Kinkeads in Arkansas Thank you go all the recent info on AR Kinkeads. 3. The point you make is significant in that the reference to "distant relative" and "uncle" is in the information in the bios for JC Skeen & Joseph Byson Kincaid when referencing George Blackburn Kincaid. It does point to Robert d c1795 Rockbridge Co. being related to Capt. Wm. The connection adds some substance to the hypothesis that Robert of Rockbridge is Robert/Anna Helena. I do wish evidence would turn up naming Robert of Rockbridge's wife. We do need a DNA participant from one of the lines tracing back to Robert of Rockbridge in order to confirm he was A-1a. There are several family groups represented in Greater Augusta Co. and they seem to interact with each other as if they were all from the same family. Early researchers made connections assuming that they were one family. It is only through DNA that we have been able to figure out who was genetically related to whom. How do you know that Robert of Rockbridge had a son Andrew? 3. Evidently Isaiah/Mary Berryhill's will names son Isaiah which supports the information in John Berryhill's will. It doesn't name a son Robert. 1. Re: [KINCAID] Robert/Anna Helena and Capt. William/Eleanor Gay ties
    2. John Kinkead
    3. Here's the complete bio: JOSEPH B. KINKEAD, Esq. This well-known resident of the Kentucky city at the Falls of the Ohio, long one of the prominent members of the Bar in Louisville, is a native of Versailles, Woodford county, Kentucky. He was the second son of Robert and Elizabeth (Bryson) Kinkead. His father was a prosperous owner of a large flouring-mill and cotton-spinning establishment in Versailles, and also Postmaster of that place for about a quarter of a century, under the administration of Presidents Monroe (appointed about 1827), Jackson, Van Buren, Harrison, Tyler, Polk, Taylor, and in part that of Fillmore. He had become a citizen of Woodford county about 1812, immigrating thither from Rockbridge county, Virginia. The Mother's family was from Washington, Pennsylvania. On both sides the stock is from the excellent Scotch-Irish, which has given so many reputable and useful citizens to the New World. Young Kinkead was trained in elementary education in the schools of the period at Versailles, and also prosecuted a preparatory course for a time at Augusta College, below Maysville, on the Ohio, then one of the most famous institutions of learning in the State. At the age of eighteen he received an appointment as midshipman in the United States Navy, through the voluntary kindness of Senator Thomas H. Benton, Vice-President Richard M. Johnson, and Major Herman Bowmar, Sr., of Versailles. Ordered at once to the steamship Missouri, he found the second in command of it Alexander Slidell Mackenzie, who shortly afterwards hanged at the yard-arm of the Somers young Spencer, son of the Secretary of the Navy, for mutiny. Captain John Thomas Newton was the superior commander. By request at Pensacola sometime after, he was transferred to the receiving-ship Ontario, at New Orleans, with which he remained but a few months while awaiting a leave of absence. It being granted, he returned to Kentucky, and there resigned his commission, at the instance of his father, who preferred to have his son nearer home; and resolved to study law. He entered the office of a distant relative, George B. Kinkead, Esq., at Versailles, with whom he completed a course of professional reading, and was granted in 1845 ^ license to practice, by the Hons. John Mason Brown and Richard A. Buckner, two of the then Circuit Judges of Kentucky. He began practice at once in his native place, alone; but presently joined his interests with those of Caleb W. Logan, who had then a fine local business, but afterwards removed to Louisville, and there became Chancellor of the Chancery Court in that city. This removal closed the partnership; Mr. Kinkead assumed the practice of the firm single-handed, and maintained it until 1850, when he also removed to Louisville, where he has since resided as a practitioner at the bar. He was at first alone in the business here; but, in 1854, was joined by the present Judge John W. Barr, of the United States District Court, who was also a native of Versailles, and is the subject of another sketch in this chapter. The new firm was Kinkead & Barr, and it lasted about eight years, when it was dissolved. In 1855, June 20th, Mr. Kinkead was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Ridgely Short, fourth daughter of Dr. Charles W. and Mary H. (Churchill) Short. Her father was widely known as one of the most learned and industrious botanists and professors of medicine in the Ohio Valley, and his distinguished life and public services form the subject of a biographical notice elsewhere. She departed this life April 8, 1868. They had children as follow: Elizabeth, married Mr. William O. Eastin, of Versailles, now of Lexington, Kentucky, and died in January, 1880; Peyton Short, married Miss Sallie Johnson, of Lake Washington, Mississippi, February 8, 1882, and resides in Versailles; Robert C, married Julia, daughter of William F. Grinstead, of Louisville, February 24, 1881, and is a practicing lawyer in partnership with his father, at No. 8 Center street, in this city; Mary Churchill, Charles Short, and Annie Lucy, still residing with their father, in their pleasant residence at 917 Second street, near Broadway. After the dissolution of Kinkead & Barr, the former remained alone in practice for many years, but spending most of his time necessarily in discharging the duties of large fiduciary trusts committed to him. In 1880 he took his son Robert into professional partnership, as above noted, under the name and style of J. R. & R. C. Kinkead, by which it is now well and reputably known. Mr. Kinkead has often been solicited to embark in politics, and to accept various local, State, and Federal offices; but has almost invariably declined, and studiously avoided the vicissitudes and excitements of official or political life. Many years ago, however, he occasionally made speeches in the campaigns of the Democratic party, with which he trained until the Presidential canvass of i860, during and since which he has been quietly identified with Republicanism. He was also Pension Agent in Louisville from 1854 to 1861; but has never been in any way an office-seeker or professional politician. He is a Presbyterian in religious convictions, a member of the College Street church; was one of the founders of the House of Refuge and for years a member of the Board of Directors; has long been associated with the Order of Free and Accepted Masons, and was a charter member of De Molay Commandery of Knights Templars; and has otherwise been somewhat conspicuously) identified with affairs in the city of his adoption. He has served in both branches of the City Council, and also in the Directory of two of the heaviest local moneyed institutions - the Bank of Louisville and the National Bank of Kentucky. > From: seleaml@actionnet.net > To: kincaid@rootsweb.com > Date: Fri, 7 Dec 2012 07:53:44 -0800 > Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Robert/Anna Helena and Capt. 1. Re: [KINCAID] Robert/Anna Helena and Capt. William/Eleanor Gay ties
    2. John Kinkead
    3. Robert Kinkead d. 1852 has a death record in Kentucky stating that his parents are Isaiah and Mary Kinkead. I guess I wasn't clear in my original post. The "Judge Kincaid" referred to in the obituary of Joseph Skeen is Judge George Blackburn Kinkead, Joseph Skeen's 2nd cousin 1x removed, and not Joseph Bryson Kinkead (who was never a judge, only a lawyer). As it is not possible for GBK to be Joseph Skeen's literal uncle, I assumed it implied an older relative. GBK's parents, siblings and children are all well document. What I find most interesting is that TWO descendents of the Robert Kinkead who died ~1795 in Rockbridge Co. both had dealings with GBK who descends from Capt. William Kinkead of Augusta/Woodford. One, who worked under GBK, and another who actually lived with GBK, and both have sources that state a genealogical relationship. Which brings me back to the idea that the Robert Kinkead who died ~1795 in Rockbridge Co. is a brother to Capt. William Kinkead. With both having sons named Andrew (in Capt. William's case, two sons named Andrew), it lends more circumstantial evidence to the case of an older Andrew Kinkead being the father of both. > From: seleaml@actionnet.net > To: kincaid@rootsweb.com > Date: Fri, 7 Dec 2012 07:53:44 -0800 > Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Robert/Anna Helena and Capt. 3. Note the use of "uncle" in the relationship of JC Skeen and Judge Kincaid (do you know for a fact that this is Joseph B?). In the lineage you give, the 2 would be 1st cousins. It would suggest that Judge Kincaid may have been a son of Isaiah rather than a grandson. I do know that the words "uncle" and "aunt" are sometimes used to indicate an older relative, not necessarily the sibling of a parent, as my grandmother's 1st cousin referred to her as "Aunt" and the children of my nieces (1st cousins) use "Aunt & Uncle" when referring to each others parents but the possibility that the reference is actually to a parent's brother needs to be eliminated. . There isn't a Robert in Isaiah's will. Where did Robert as father of Joseph B. and son of Isaiah come from? If Robert died prior to Isaiah there should be a reference to "heirs of Robert" in the will or there would be a possibility that the will could have been broken. Getting the actual will would be of help. The 2 problems above occur in other lineages so it may be interesting to have a discussion on them.. 1. Does the use of the titles "Uncle & Aunt" actually define the so designated as sibling of a parent or was it used more broadly to define an older relative? 2. How strictly was the mention of all children or heirs of a deceased child adhered to in early wills? Are there examples where an unmentioned heir actually broke the will? 3. Ah, I see what you're saying. I guess I assumed that it already been proven that the Robert who died ~1795 was the husband of Anna Helena. I based the birth year before 1741 based on the approximate ages of the children, particularly Robert and Isaiah who were born about 1765. Regardless of whether or not the wife is Anna Helena, this Robert appears to be a possible brother to Capt. William. Both Robert and William have sons named Andrew, which also fits with your belief (mine as well) that Capt. William is the son of an Andrew. > From: seleaml@actionnet.net > To: kincaid@rootsweb.com > Date: Thu, 6 Dec 2012 08:35:03 -0800 > Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Robert/Anna Helena and Capt. 3. The problem in the lineage is proving that Robert d c1795 (note that Isaiah is adm Robert's estate by then) in Rockbridge Co. is Robert/Anna Helena of Beverly Manor in Augusta Co. While the timing of Robert/Anna Helena's sale of the last of the Beverly Manor land (1770) would allow for Robert of Rockbridge (selling 550a in Rockbridge to Samuel Davis in 1778) to be the same man, I have seen nothing indicating the name of Rockbridge Robert's wife so equating the two Roberts is pure conjecture (though I personally believe it a strong possibility). Perhaps finding the 1778 deed would be of help or perhaps the writer of this lineage knows something we don't.. I am wondering where the 1741 date came from for either Roberts' year of birth. Robert/Anna Helena buy the Beverly Manor land in 1763 so this date is plausible but he also could be older. There is a Robert Kincaid not found in 1748 Augusta Co. taxes. 3. The only record is of Thomas Kinkead of Lancaster Co. PA who died in 1750 in Augusta Co. No proof that he's tied to my line, but I think it's possible he's a brother of John the Weaver. Regardless, if we forget Lancaster Co. PA, we still have Augusta Co. VA to Woodford Co. KY to Saline Co. MO. It's an interesting coincidence, if nothing more, that the Franciscos and my Kinkeads migrated at roughly the same time to those locations. It still strikes me as odd that no marriages between the two families have been discovered. > From: dutchtreat@prodigy.net > To: kincaid@rootsweb.com > Date: Sun, 2 Dec 2012 13:47:36 -0500 > Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Francisco Family > > John, > What records do you have that tie your Kinkead line to Lancaster County, PA? > > Here is another connection of the Francisco family to the Frazier family > through this marriage: > > 1786--September 29, Captain George Frazer and Sally Francisco, daughter of > Geo. 3. This helps explain the Lewis family that your John Francisco married into. This may be the connection that connects your Kinkead family to County Donegal. "The information you were asking for is as follows: Elizabeth Strother Lewis was the daughter of John Lewis (b.11-1-1749 d.1788) John and his wife (unknown) had 4 children: Thomas L., Elizabeth S., Charles A., and John B. John (the father) commanded a company at the Battle of Point Pleasant,(Va., now West Virginia) and was an officer under General George Washington. He was at Valley Forge with Washington and was present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. He was seriously wounded at Point Pleasant in 1774 and died in 1788. John Lewis was the son of Thomas Lewis b.4-27-1718 in Ireland (Donnegal County) d. 1-31-1790 near Fort Republic in Rockingham County, Va. He was very nearsighted and could not participate in military affairs as his brothers and father had done, however he was a man of much learning and ability, a member of the House of Burgesses and the Virginia Conventions of 1775 and 1776. He m. Jane Strother (1732-1820) daughter of William Strother of Stafford Co. Va. They had 13 Children. Thomas was the son of John Lewis. John was b. 1678 in county Donnegal, Ireland, d.2-1-1762 in Staunton Va. He married Margaret Lynn (b.7-3-1693 in Ireland, d.1773 in Staunton. John was the son of Andrew Lewis and Mary Calhoun. For any further information, may I suggest the book, John Lewis, Pioneer, by Irvin Frazier. This book has been a wonderful help to me.
