It is at: [3]https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClq6a4Px8LVot5VA8J0ythw Here I will upload videos dealing with our Kincaid origins and history. I uploaded a video today on the location of the bookshop of Alexander Kincaid. The next one hopefully will deal with the location of the mansion of Thomas Kincaid of Coates, constable of Edinburgh Castle. I am doing this as I feel some topics are best presented visually in video or pictorial format. Furthermore, I have a harder time actually writing things versus discussing things this way. All are welcome to subscribe and discuss the videos on the channel. If you have a preference for something to be discussed in video format let me know. Best wishes! Larry, We are currently working with University of Glasgow to find Professors who would be willing to help us get dna samples from the Kincaid men in Campsie Parish Cemetery. Our contact with the politicians for Campsie did not know how we could go about getting approval to get the samples so hopefully the anthropology or other specialty profs will know how to do this. If we are successful we will know the dna of the Kincaid's of Kincaid and thus find out which Kincaid dna group descends from them. I'm definitely not used to YouTub blogs like this one. At first it seemed odd to me. Couldn't figure out why you just didn't do it all with written text, the old fashioned way. Then you started "showing' all of those interesting documents and drawings and it suddenly became very clear to me. It really helped to be able to "see" what you were talking about. And then the narrative you added helped us to interpret the drawings and other actual historical text you were showing. I also jotted down some of the sources of the material you were showing so I could look for them on the web myself. So, I ended up liking it quite a bit. What I didn't like was Alexander not having any male descendants living today, but I guess YouTube has some limitations. Thanks for taking time to do this for us. A great resource. On another note, I have some nice photos from my visit of the tombstones in Campsie Parish. After reading all of the latest breakthroughs in dna analysis of buried remains, I could not help wishing that we had dna samples from the Kincaid's in Campsie Parish. Are all of the Kincaid DNA groups A to . . . represented there? Or just one, or two? Results are in for the 38-67 markers of #1261's upgrade to 111 markers. He matches the Group A AAV exactly on these markers. On the 1-37 markers he has 2 variations, one of which is isolated by #117939's results. The other, a 40 at marker 35 (CDYb), appears in both results. #1267 and #117939 are vetted to John Kincaid b c1807 Greenbrier Co VA d prior 1840 m 1830-2 Cina Vance. Their common ancestor Simon, the only son of John/Cina, is definitly part of the Fayette Co. community, however, definative proof tying him to Thomas/Hannah Tincher of Greenbrier Co. has not been found. There is a possability that John/Cina was the son of Thomas/Hannah's youngest son William m 18 March 1802 Grbr Co. Mary Ann Tincher. Sue Liedtke
The Bible says James Jr. Wife named Jennet suggests this is the correct family. James d 1768 may be grandfather. Chain of thought with possibly relevant names: Appraiser John Ramsey owned land (devised in his 1783) will between John Patrick & John Black. His appraisement was by John Black, Wm Gillespy, Wm Finley and Thos.Turk. John's wife, Mary Ramsey died in Alb Co. in 1785. Appraiser John Black may be the one who in 1746 bought from James Davis 375a in the eastern area of Beverly Manor. James Gillespie's estate (210a & adj 208a surveyed 1740) was near the 375a. Could the 3rd appraiser be John Davis Jr instead of John Davidson Jr? I have Davis in my notes. John Ramsey bought land on the Cow Pasture from Hugh Coffee's heir John of NC in 1766. Thomas/Hannah Kincaid sold their Albemarle land to Benjamin Coffee. Danial O'Harrah sold his Alb land to Thomas Coffee. Danial OHarrah and wife Elizabeth [probably the Danial who m Eliz Ramsey 1745 Dunmore Twnship, Lancaster Co. PA. Danial's father lived next to Robert Ramsey. Danial is mentioned in a Robert Ramsey's Augusta Co. will] sold land to Alex Miller "on a branch of the Cowpasture" in 1767. Danial O'Harrah was the father of Danial/Elizabeth Kincaid, and Charles/Margaret Kincaid. Danial held land in Albemarle Co.(1771-5) next to the land Thomas/Hannah Tincher Kincaid held (1765-1771). Danial O'Hara and Andrew Kincaid of Alb were sued in 1772 by Woods for a note taken out 10 yrs prior. [Andrew's wife Mary may have been a Ramsey]. Thomas & Benj Coffee witnessed sale of Alb land by Andrew/Mary Kincaid in 1767. Danial Harrah and sons are in Grbr Co. by the early 1780's. I wonder what happened to James Gillaspie Jr. and who the following Thomas and Hugh are?. Thomas & Hugh Gillespie held land near the mouth of Stuart Creek on the Cowpasture. William Gillespy near "the Forks" of the Cowpasture. The 1782 Personal Property Tax for the Cowpasture lists Samuel, Thomas and John Gillespie.. The 1785 will of Thomas names wife Eleanor and children: John, Thomas, Jacob, Samuel, James, William, Mary Donally, Hannah Jones, Jane, Eleanor and Ann. The Bath Co. 1791 list of Samuel Vance has Jacob, Samuel, Wm and John on it. The early Gillespies in Greenbrier were Thomas and Hugh. No James. [Deed from Butler to Sam not yet found] Testemony by Thomas Kincaid, son of Sam, indicates that if Tyree were to gain the suit, he would expect to get part of the Muddy Creek land. Sue Liedtke
In my posting of 6 April 2014, I had not placed Harvey M Kincaid in this family. After some research I have found that Harvey is son of John Hazzard Kincaid, the grandson of David C & Mary Wood Kincaid, and the great grandson of John & Jane Donaldson Kincaid. John married Jane Donaldson, March 28, 1789, in Madison County, Kentucky Probate Packet 1429 Harvey M Kincaid (Father John H Kincaid b Mar 1835,) Minor Child File 16 Dec 1914 Guardian E. M. Timberlake. A letter from Harvey concerning funds for the coming year addresses E.M. Timberlake as "cousin." Mentions funds from a partition suit of Harvey M & Claude W Kincaid vs Martha E Kincaid In his will, John Kincaid mentions the the sons of David C Kincaid, William & Robert. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~momarion/willbook.htm In his will, Hazzard Wood, father of Mary Wood Kincaid, mentions her three children, Hazzard Kincaid, Harvey M Kincaid & Sarah Jane Kincaid. David's brother, William M Kincaid, is a witness to this will. http://www.andersonconnection.org/report28/pi01/Hazzard_Wood_Will.htm
this has to be a transcription error....John's will is listed 1334, doesn't it have to be 1834? Hi Peter, Cannot help asking if you meant "Quite a cluster of prolific Kincaids" or prolific cluster. There is a question whether the descent is from John/Ann Graham. Information provided to me by the researcher indicates she believes descent from William Kincaid (son of Samuel of the 3 Wives) who m Jane Kincaid, dau of John/Elizabeth Gillespy. She has not given me the downline from William/Jane. It may take her some time to sort through her notes and take a look at information I have sent her as she is quite busy at this time and has been confident that she descends from John/Ann Graham. There was a postmistress in Fayette Co. (I can't remember her name) who gathered antidotal information and relied on H.C Kincaid's work. Her linkages were widely circulated. In her work Samuel of the 3 Wives as well as John/Elizabeth Gillespie are said to be sons of John/Ann Graham. I can't remember exactly her other connections but I believe she goes through Thomas/Sarah Gwinn (the son of William/Agness, proven son of Thomas/Margaret Lockhart of the Great Calf Pasture) directly to Thomas/Margaret without involving William/Agness. I do know that Leslie had a heck of a time proving to one of the Fayette Co. Kincaids (who believed the postmistress's lineages) that Thomas/Sarah had no connection whatever to her Kincaid lineage. John/Ann had proven sons Matthew b pr 1784 & Lanty b c1780 but there is no indication of either a son Samuel or a son John, though I would not be surprised if a John did show up as that was Ann Graham's father's name and I suspect John's father's name also. There are several brief mentions of a John in Grbr records that can't be positively identified as either John/Ann or John/Elizabeth. In particular a John Kincaid m Margaret Harrah, widow of William Harrah in 1808. In 1810 John/Margaret buys land on Muddy from Thomas/Hannah then sell part to Robert/Ann Elliott Kincaid. Robert/Ann sell out and return to Anthony Creek but John remains on Muddy. Later Court records show Matthew and Lanty along with John named in a suit involving Wm Harrah's estate. Margaret moved to KY with her son Danial and reverted to the Harrah name leaving John to deal with the other disgruntled heirs.. This John could possibly be a widowed John/Ann or possibly a son John. William Harrah was brother to Danial and Charles Harrah who m the daughters of Thomas/Hannah. I believe the confusion came because after moving from Anthony Creek to Muddy Creek starting about 1810, John/Ann's known children intermixed with the known children and grandchildren of Thomas/Hannah Tincher. Adding to the confusion Samuel and John/Elizabeth both had sons named Matthew as did John/Ann. We know from deeds and court records that Thomas/Hannah had a proven grandson Matthew Kincaid as well as a proven grandson Matthew Harrah though I don't know if and how Thomas/Hannah figured into the postmistresses' account..John/Ann was born pr 1750 as in 1771 he buys land in Beverly Manor from John the Weaver. Thomas/Hannah was born pr 1744 as in 1765 he bought land in Albemarle Co next to Matthew, son of John the Weaver. I suspect the Matthew name in both families was in honor of John the Weaver's son Matthew d 1775. The latest dna participant believes descent from John Kincaid and Ann Gram. They match the other participant claiming descent from them except for a mutation at the cdy markers which the latter has. This puts John Kincaid and Ann Graham with the main pack (2562 etc) of Sue's set 1a cluster. Quite a prolific cluster of Kincaids. Peter
Hi Luis, There are a great many people on this mail list who have done a lot of research and are willing to help when they are given some information. Could you please tell us something about the Kinkade you have in the family? Full names, approximate dates, location and spouse can be useful in our identifying the Kinkade you seek. It looks like the Kinkade and Brunk you have tie into Barbara's posting of information? Welcome to the list and I hope we can be of help.
