    3. Welcome to the group, Kelly.   Robert (Bob) Bruce Kinkade #35915 (DNA project) --- On Thu, 8/21/08, lewisjo@junct.com <lewisjo@junct.com> wrote: From: lewisjo@junct.com <lewisjo@junct.com> Subject: [KINCAID] New to List, PA-IN-MO Kincade/Kincaid's To: KINCAID@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, August 21, 2008, 8:39 PM Greetings to all; my name is Kelly Kincade and I am new to the list. I tried to post this message the other day, but I guess I was unsuccessful. I have been reading the archives for the last couple of months, but just got the nerve to actually join and use the list. I will be posting my lineage very soon to the list, hopefully it will help someone, and possibly get me past this "road-block" that I have encountered. I have gotten as far back as Mathew/Elizabeth Humble Kincade/Kincaid. It seems his father is in question. So, in order to maybe steer me in a clearer direction, my father has joined the DNA project and requested a kit. Seems like a very good deal through the end of August at the reduced rate. I look forward to joining this extended family, and hope that I may contribute as much as all of you have. A note to Ruth, my heart, prayers and thoughts are with you. I lost my mother last year. I hope comfort comes to you soon. 3. Clearly this timeline suggests that this is not related to the Samuel of the 1776 Will. It shows a chain for a Samuel holding land right up to his death. 3. Excellent discussion and investigation today, thanks, Peter and Barb.  In looking at the Patent Index list online I observed that almost no patents issued from 1775 to the beginning of 1781, probably because of the existing state of hostilities between the United States and Great Britain.  That's why so many patents issued such a long time after the warrant was issued.  If you go to this link you can see the plat of some of the Donation land warrants and surveys in Lawrence County, formerly part of Mercer County, PA. http://www.usgwarchives.net/maps/pa/county/lawren/survey/ I'm going to be away from the computer for a couple days learning from my sisters, Celeste and Marilee how to put up preserves. 1. Re: [KINCAID] John Kincaid of Yohogania County---1778
    2. Norman Kincaide
    3. I have pondered that for a long time.  Who was he junior to?  I thought maybe John Kincaid the patriarch, but I think his John Jr. is accounted for.  And John Kinkead, Merchant of Carlisle's John Jr. is accounted for.  John Kinkead of Sadsbury Township's John Jr. is accounted for in Bart Township, Lancaster County, died in 1811. There is a John Kinkead in Chester County: 1768 John Kincade, inmate, taxed in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA. Provincial Tax of 1768. 1769 John Kincade, weaver, taxed in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA for 1 horse, 1 cow.                  Pennsylvania Archives, s. 3, v. 9, p. 573. 1771 John Kinkead, labourer, taxed in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA for 100 acres, 1 horse,1         cow, 2 sheep.   Pennsylvania Archives, s. 3, v. 9, p. 742. 1772 John Kinkaid taxed in West Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA, payed 5 pounds rent to Phebe             Meshman, 1 cow. 1773 John Kinkead, East Nottingham Township, posted a recognizance bond at Chester County Court of Quarter         Sessions, February 1773 for James Campbell. Chester County Archives & Records Service, Index to                 Quarter Sessions Indictment Records, 1681-1778, K. 1773 John Kinkade, victim/complainant, riot, February 1773, against Robert Criswell, East Nottingham Township,             Chester County, PA. Chester County Archives & Records Service, Index to Quarter Sessions Indictment         Records, 1681-1778, C. Then there is this warrant that I have previously attributed to John Kinkead Jr. son of John Kinkead of Sadsbury Township, giving his son John this warrant.  I could be wrong and this could be the father of the John Kincaid in Yohogania County and Samuel Kinkead (died 1779). 1772 John Kinkead [000012] received warrant #304 for 70 acres in Bart Township, Lancaster County, PA, May 21,         1772.  A Lancaster County, PA deed, Deed Book D, Vol. 6, p. 27 stated that John Kinkead of Bart                     Township, Lancaster County,  PA was the son of John Kinkead, Esq, who had been granted the Bart                 Township land on a warrant and had given it to his son.     Pennsylvania State Archives 1772 John Kinkead.  [000012] By virtue of a warrant bearing date the 21st day of May 1772, surveyed the 26th             day of August unto John Kinkead the above described tract of land situate in Bart Township in ye County of         Lancaster containing eighty-five acres & sixty-six perches of land besides the allowance of six pcent.                  Jasper Scull.  Adjacent land owners: Abraham Beam, Jacob Graff, Thomas Smith, George Merkel, Jacob             Foutz, Michael Wether.  Pennsylvania State Archives, RG-17, Records of the Land Office, COPIED                     SURVEYS, 1681-1912, Vol. C-161, p. 233. One of the adjacent land owners is Abraham Beam.  John Kinkead served with Jacob Beam in the Washington County, PA Militia.  But if this is so it still doesn't explain to me who this other John Kinkead is?  He could be the father of John and Samuel (Will 1776-1779).  See also: 1763 Elizabeth Kinkaid married Jacob Beam, June 22, 1763 in Lancaster County, PA. 1. Re: [KINCAID] Samuel Kinkead's 100 acres near Pittsburgh
    2. Peter A. Kincaid
    3. The map is dated 1775 and is contemporary with the Will of Samuel. Here Pittsburgh is still called Fort Pitt still. When did Pittsburgh first become called Pittsburgh instead of Fort Pitt? I ask this because I am wondering if an error of assumption is being made. Perhaps the land referred to in Samuel's 1776 Will was actually in Fawn township. In all appearances he acquired 270 acres. He gives his brother 50 acres, his sister 100 acres and his cousin 100 acres. This is pretty close to 270 acres. Now the Samuel who later appears in the Fawn tax lists has 150 acres. This could be his and John's share. The 100 acres deeded to John McCleary could perhaps be Mary's share - perhaps he married Mary or was her son. Clearly, there is problems with the title of the land as they were only going on warrants and the whole 270 acres had to be later granted new to Joseph and Thomas. I also ask this because of the fact that Fawn township included the township of Peach Bottom. Peach Bottom was only created in 1815. Peach Bottom municipality is now on the Lancaster side at the mouth of "Peters Creek." It was originally on the York County side. I have a suspicion that the little creek on the York County side (below Muddy Creek) was also called Peters Creek. Perhaps Pitch burgh is a corruption of Peach burgh which was what Peach Bottom was known locally as at that time. Just food for thought. As Joseph  Kincaid, a son of Samuel Kincaid, had been made receiver of monies due Samuel Kincaid for his estate, Joseph Kincaid & wife Martha  & Thomas Kincaid agreed to give a patent to John McLaughlin upon his paying the necessary fees and an additional $5 on Oct. 31, 1815.  York County, PA Deed Book 3R, p. 259.
