    1. Re: [KINCAID] Facebook and genealogy
    2. I've been using a facebook account to reconnect with 'old' classmates and friends we've left behind from military moves, and it's a lot of fun. I run the group for our class. I would suggest that it's a 'closed' group, meaning that whoever (and it can be more than one person) is the administrator must approve someone joining the group before they can enter it. You would need to decide what level of access you would want people to have. Would you need to be a part of the dna project directly? Would you need to be able to verify your Kincaid relationship (and to what extent) and so on. But it's a neat idea, I think, even if I would not qualify to join the group. The facebook stuff is a lot of fun. What I?have noticed with my group, is that we really don't use the group site hardly at all. It's really a place to 'meet' everyone again, but most all of the communication seems to be done between individual facebook pages. Writing on the wall, everyone who's?a friend can see, but s! ending messages can only be seen by those that the original message was sent to. Debby Potter -----Original Message----- From: Peter A. 3. K-listers, Thought I'd bend the rules a little and share this, from the Lucaas Co., IA, list. Dick Kinkead 2562 A1a -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An amateur genealogical researcher discovered that his great-great uncle, Remus Starr, a fellow lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture is this inscription: 'Remus Starr; horse thief; sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887; robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives. Convicted and hanged 1889.' In a Family History subsequently written by the researcher, Remus's picture is cropped so that all that's seen is a head shot. The accompanying biographical sketch is as follows: 'Remus Starr was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1885, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.'

    3. Andrew/Elizabeth is probably Andrew m Elizabeth Knapp Aug 1, 1839 bond July 22, 1839. Bond is also signed by Joshua Knapp. It is possible he was a son of Andrew/Rebecca Kincaid Kincaid who was son of Andrew/Mary d 1810. I would have to do some looking as he could also be from the James/Elizabeth Dean family or even the Andrew/Ursala line or anyone else for that matter if he wasn't given a family name. 3. The last of the results for 1262's upgrade to 67 markers have been returned. The only marker out of 67 where he varies from the C-2 AAV is marker 55 where he has a 16 instead of the AAV 15. Testings on the missing panel for both 31493 and 35915 were unsuccessful. Retesting is being done. The only results due in for the rest of September are deep clad tests, which are running behind. Everything else at the lab is scheduled to be returned in November or early December, though the lab frequently returns results sooner than anticipated. Sue Liedtke

    3. Is anyone going to the big event in Edinburgh next year? I noticed on the web site that the Kincaid clan is entered in the parade and other events. I never heard what happened to the Kincaid group tour that was supposed to go to Scotland this year. Anyone have a report? More importantly, is there any effort by our Kincaid rootweb group to organize a group tour to the clan gathering in 2009. Here's the brief description from the web site: On the 25th and 26th July 2009 Edinburgh will witness one of the largest clan gatherings in history. Holyrood Park will host a magnificent Highland Games <http://www.clangathering.org/events/view/108> over the two days, then on the Saturday evening Clan members will parade up the historic Royal Mile<http://www.clangathering.org/events/view/106>and take their seats on the castle esplanade for a spectacular Clan Pageant <http://www.clangathering.org/events/view/110> . 3. Joan Kincaid, President of Clan Kincaid told me last week that Clan Kincaid and Clan Chief Arabella are nearing completion in planning of a tour for Americans (Canada & U.S.) in connection with The Gathering of the Clans and will be announcing it soon and are hoping to have at least 100 Kincaid's from around the world there to march in the Kincaid section up the Royal Mile. I believe the tour will include several historic Kincaid places like Kincaid House Hotel and Lennox Castle. We plan to go as do several of my Kin. We will make it part of a longer stay and visit Ireland and N. Ireland as well as Northern Europe. One outstanding young man, Jordan Kincaid, who is a pre-med Sophomore at the Univ. Of Texas and his father, a PA at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston will be going. Jordan has a great interest in things Kincaid, even to the point of planning on having the Kincaid Crest tattooed on his shoulder. 1. Re: [KINCAID] Fishing
    2. Sue Liedtke
    3. Thank you for the correction. I was pulling most of this from memory which was a bit faulty. Obtaining a DNA test from Thomas of Lewis Co. and Thomas/Sarah of Raleigh Co. would help to unravel the Mt. Tom aspect. Given the available data all we know about Thomas of Lewis Co. is that Lucinda Claypool, claiming to be his daughter, says his father was an S. Kincaid and he was born in Greenbrier Co. Her children carry the Claypool name until after Thomas's death. We also know that in 1850 he had a Mary Kincaid who was of age to be his wife in his Lewis Co. household. His age (which varies) in this and subsequent census indicates a birth between 1800-1805. Lewis Co. Thomas is not Thomas/Polly Davis whose 1815 marriage with permission from father Samuel is consistent with Mt Tom whose censuses indicate a birth circa 1790-1795. The appearance of a Mary Kincaid (widow) in the 1850 household of Thomas/Isabella suggests that Lewis Co. Thomas is not his father as mother Mary would not be in 2 households in 2 widely separated counties at the same time. Early researchers efforts to construct a fit with an elaborate story that Mt. Tom ran off with Lucinda Claypool, told the census taker that his wife Mary was living with them while the jilted Mary (mother of Thomas/Isabella) was listed as a widow to save face does not appear to jibe with known data. Likewise the construct that Samuel of the 3 wives had 2 sons named Thomas (Mt. Tom and King Tom). King Tom's wife Sarah is listed as the daughter of Samuel/Huldah in her death records. This Thomas is too young per census records (1850 says b c1810, 1860 says b c1800) to be the Thomas, son of Samuel of the 3 wives, named in court records. The 1810 birth date is most reasonable as Sarah also shows the same aage desparity. Samuel m Huldah in 1802 so neither would be the child of this union if born in 1800.
