    3. This is good news. I do want to remind everyone that in order for a Group A Kincaid to be placed accurately on the chart a 37 marker test is needed. A 25 marker test works for other Groups though 37 markers is preferable and may be needed as we get more participants in each group or if there is any possibility that the results may indicate a Group A placement. I believe it is cheaper (and definately takes less time) to order the 37 markers initially rather than upgrade at a later date. The 12 marker test has little value unless you suspect a non-Kincaid male in the lineage and want to check on that possibility before committing additional resources for testing. It may also be useful if the testee has a proven line to an ancestor of a current participant who wishes to isolate a mutation which occurs in the first 12 markers. At present there isn't a great advantage in expanding from 37 to 67 markers though a few mutations have shown up that may be helpful as more participants upgrade. As a 67 marker test is significantly more expensive than a 37 marker test holding off on the last 30 markers until a need arises might be prudent. 3. Kincaid Listers, (Those K lister's who are participants in the Kincaid DNA Project will have received the same message as this already so please excuse repeat) Family tree DNA has announced price decreases across the board for their DNA tests as follows for members of the Kincaid Group: Y DNA: Kincaid Group Price Individual Price 12 markers $99 $149 25 markers $124 $179 37 markers $149 $259 67 markers $248 $349 Mt DNA $99 $129 Mt DNA plus $149 $189 It is easy to see why you will want to be part of our Kincaid Group.......especially since you are likely to have Scots blood in you veins! There are various other tests they offer and have reduce the prices on which you can review by going to your personal FTDNA webpage and looking at possible upgrades. We would also like to remind everyone that tests ordered from Ancestry.com and other DNA companies will not use the same alleles or markers that the Kincaid DNA Project uses through Family Tree DNA. The difference for 37 markers is 6 markers so your results from Ancestry could not be directly compared with those of us in the Kincaid DNA Project. I calculated this using the Ancestry 46 marker test and Family Tree's 37 marker tests. For those who have have done a DNA test with another company and want to join our Family Tree project, they have conversion kits available whereby they test the markers Ancestry does not test for so the results can be directly compared with our Kincaid results. We have 2 more new participants to join our Kincaid project and anticipate more soon. 2008 has been a great year for increasing our numbers in the Kincaid Project and we thank all who have helped in this endeavor. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Don W. Kincaid Kincaid Surname DNA Administrator Team donwkincaid@cox.net 254 631-5684

    3. Bishop's History is not known to be always correct. I'm a direct descendent of this Kincaid group. I tried to have a DNA test for a descendent of Daniel Thomas but he died before we could get the kit so now I'm working on his grandson. Daniel Thomas is buried in a mausoleum in Spencer Cemetery, Spencer, WV and his father is buried in Clover, WV. -----Original Message----- From: kincaid-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kincaid-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Barbara Van Hout Sent: Tuesday, November 18, 2008 4:41 PM To: Kincaid@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KINCAID] R. George Washington Kincaid, and his wife, Catherin (Campbell, daugh-ter of Daniel Campbell), who were married in Fayette County, Western Virginia, with their three first born children, came to Roane County in the year 1856; settled near Looneyville. George Washington Kincaid was a son of Thomas and ( Davis) Kincaid, who were mar-ried in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, both descendants of Scotch-Irish settlers of old Virginia. Fayette County History states that a James Gillispy Kincaid of Greenbrier County, 1807, is the leading name of the family, Kincaid. The sons and daughters of George W. and Catherine, his wife, were Daniel Thomas, George W., Jr., Seldon, Rufus A., Virginia, wife of Phillip Ellis; Sarah, wife of Elkanah Summerfield; Belle married Hilary Upton; Frances married a Kincaid of another family. Daniel Thomas Kincaid, son of G. W. Kincaid, Sr., and Catherine (Campbell), was born in 1848, in Fayette County; on April 23, 1873, married Miss Martha E. To Daniel E. and Martha, his wife, were born and by them reared the following five sons and seven daugh-ters: Newman, Melissa, John S., Ott, Lexie, Seldon C., Martha May, Rosco, Ethel, Annice, Emma and Myrtle. These have married and have families and businesses. George W. Kincaid, son of George W. and Catherine, was born in Roane County; married Miss Lulu Burke, daughter of Peter Burke of Spencer District, February 14, 1877. They reared two sons and two daughters, whose names are Robert, William, Mrs. Darrel Pritchard, and Mrs. Howard Dougherty. Rufus, son of Geo. John Moton Kincaid was a son of William Kincaid of Dogwood Gap, Fayette County, and was a cousin to the others above mentioned. John M. married Miss Eliza Lowe, October, 1881, and returned to Fayette County. Seldon Kincaid's career is not given us. Source: History of Roane County, West Virginia, 1774-1927 William H. Bishop, Esq. p 572-573 Roscoe Kincaid is named above as a child of Daniel Kincaid & Martha Brannon. George Washington Kincaid's parents were Thomas Kincaid and Polly Davis, who married in 1815 in Greenbrier County. Mary "Polly" Davis was the daughter of William Davis and Benedictia/Benedictor Milstead of Amherst County, Virginia, whose marriage occurred there in 1787. Eugene Kincaid, 89, of St. Albans and Niota, Tenn., was peacefully called home to his Lord on November 15, 2008 after a sudden illness and less than one year after the death of his beloved wife of 65 years, Anne. Gene was the son of Roscoe and Lydia Kincaid from Parkersburg. Born of proud and independent Scotch-Irish stock, he led a vigorous and accomplished life from his youth in Parkersburg to his years in the Kanawha Valley as an independent businessman and entrepreneur. He graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering in 1942, married Anne, a coalminer's daughter from Morgantown, shortly after and set out to change the world. Gene's life work contributed to the betterment of man. During the war years (World War II,) while at Union Carbide, he was instrumental in developing the chemical engineering process to make synthetic rubber. This was a critical step in the war effort and helped to save thousands of lives. Striking out on his own, he developed a successful agricultural chemical company which helped to increase the yield of corn in a farmer's field and helped to control the pests and diseases that attacked the food crops. Family illness took the family to Clearwater, Florida, where Gene continued his entrepreneurial path, but he returned to West Virginia where he found the second two "loves" of his life, flying and Alderson-Broaddus College. To him, nothing was better than landing a small plane on the grass airports around the valley. His lifelong willingness to help others was never more evident than in his relationship with A.B. College. Gene became a trustee of the college in 1981 and served for more than nine years. He and Anne started a scholarship fund in memory of their son, Daniel Thomas Kincaid, who died when 13 years old. Gene worked tirelessly to improve the school's standing and recently established a second scholarship fund in memory of his wife, Anne. These funds have helped many young West Virginian men and women to achieve a college education and particularly earn degrees in nursing, health sciences and chemistry. For his work, Gene was awarded an honorary doctorate from Alderson-Broaddus College and was selected as the Outstanding Philanthropist of West Virginia in 1990. The Kincaid Residence Hall at A.B. College is named after R. Eugene Kincaid. Gene loved his family and was very proud of his children, Brian Stephen and his wife, Lou Ann Kincaid, Carol Anne and her husband, Michael Vitek, and Ronald Eugene and his wife, Susan Kincaid; his grandchildren, Brian Stephen Kincaid II and his wife, Mandy, Christy Kincaid Farmer and her husband, William Farmer, Eric Daniel Kincaid, Ian Daniel Colton, Courtney Colton Beaupre and her husband, Jason Beaupre, Timothy Vitek, Jennifer Vitek, Lydia Abigail Kincaid and Caleb Claiborne Kincaid; and his great-grandchildren, Christian Michael Farmer, Brianna Rose Farmer, Keaton Briley Farmer and Juneau Colton Beaupre. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Kincaid McDaniel, and is survived by his brother, Ernest Kincaid of Cincinnati, Ohio. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 20, at the First Baptist Church, St. Albans. Albans. Graveside service and interment will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service Thursday at the church. 3. Bob Arnett 49289 in A-2a is vetted to George and Mary Catherine Campbell. Barb, unless the 9 at marker 15 (459b) can be shown to be a parallel mutation in Bob's line, it is unlikely that George/Mary Catherine was the grandson of Samuel of the 3 wives. A great deal of circumstantial evidence points to Samuel's descendents as A-1. I think another descendent of George/Mary Catherine may be preparing to test. We are waiting results for 130207 who believes descent from Thomas/Isabella Campbell. Sue Liedtke ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don W. 3. The 1920 census shows R. Eugene Kincaid, a. 2/12 months, living with parents Roscoe a. 31 and Lydia in Roane County, WV. R. Eugene Kincaid's first name was also Roscoe, according to the census. Father Roscoe's WWI draft card (registrations were in 1917-1918) shows his name as Daniel Roscoe Kincaid, born in Rushville, WV on June 10, 1888. He gave his employment merchant, post master and farmer in Looneyville, WV. The 1900 Roane Co, WV, Smithfield, census shows a Daniel Kincaid b. 1848 and wife Martha b. 1855 with a large family that includes the above Daniel R. b. 1888. The 1860 Roane County, WV shows a Daniel G Kincaid a.11 as the son of Geo W. Kincaid a. 42 and wife Mary C (Campbell). a. 32. They were living next to Daniel Campbell a. 63 and wife Catherine a.60 and daughter Sarah R. a. 15. In 1850, George W and wife Mary C. were in Fayette County, WV ---again living next to Daniel Campbell and wife Catherine. George and Mary had a George Thos. a. 1 in this census, along with Mary C. Kincaid jr. a. 3. This appears to be a line back to Thomas Kincaid/Hannah Tincher? Albans. 3. Does anyone have records for this George Kincaid? The compiler has discovered that George Kincaid was married to Jane Lytle of Westmoreland Co. as proven by many legal records. Also many legal records of that county and Natchez, Miss., seem to point to Jane McConnell. One 1803 will record names her as "my widowed Aunt Jane Little, relict of John Little late of Pennsylvania, decd." See pages 403-411 for the compiler's paper 1963 on this subject. A recently discovered tradition in the compiler's line shows a connection to the Liddell family,- Barons and Earls of Co. Durham, England. See pages 954A-954D. This English family had a coat of arms. A 1962 historical novel by Anya Seton covers the period of time from 1710 to about 1770 and covers the region around Co. Durham and mentions the Liddells on page 18. Some data collected in 1962 which may apply to the403 through 411 compiler's traditional ancestors, John Little and his wife, Jane McConnell- One of the 4 daughters married George Kincaid (see pages 483-489). The Natchez, Mississippi, records- in will of George Cochran there is a bequest "to my widowed Aunt Jane Little, reliot of John Little, late of Pennsylvania dead". 3. Nothing really has changes as little new information has come to light. Things are speculative right now. We really need to comb through the US census records to identify lines directly from Scotland, weed through these to find some that can be linked to a paper trail in Scotland, and then find male descendants to participate in the DNA project. One of the main goals I had for the DNA project was to have participants with paper trails people can attached to. We have lots of participants but most are dead enders. We really need more participants with a good paper trail. To put things in perspective, of all the Group A Kincaids tested we only have two with a decent paper trail overseas (2617 and 23547). 3. These Hamilton families below have a connection to Donagheady Parish in County Tyrone, according to the notes. These three family lines all match in Group B of the Hamilton DNA project. Some of the early County Tyrone Kincaids lived on the Hamilton/Duke of Abercorn estates. http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/g/a/gah4/HamDNA/EAnc.html. ******************************* H-256 is derived from the Maymore Hamilton line of St Johnston, Co Donegal, Ireland, previously of Gortavey and Magheramason, Donagheady Parish, and Leat, Co Tyrone. This line is derived from Lord Claud Hamilton (about 1543-1622) of the Abercorn line through his son Sir Claud Hamilton of Shawfield and Manor Elieston and grandson Sir William Hamilton of Manor Elieston. Like others in the Abercorn line Lord Claud Hamilton is a descendant of Sir James Hamilton of Cadzow who was married to Janet Livingston and died about 1440. For more information on the Maymore Hamiltons see the book "The Maymore Hamiltons and Related Families" compiled by John Leslie Hamilton and privately published in 2000. H-256 is an eleventh cousin once removed of H-139 and, like him, is related to H-203, H-230 and H-188 ****************************** H-045 Archibald Henry Hamilton, b 1704 Laggin District, Northern Ireland, m Frances Calhoun. In 1733 Archibald and Frances emigrated to Augusta Co, VA. Son Major Andrew Hamilton, b abt 1740 Augusta Co, VA, m Jane McGill; they and many of their descendants lived in Abbeville, SC. The father of Archibald Henry Hamilton (b 1704) is thought to be Audley Harrison Hamilton and that he was the brother of Judith Hamilton who married Alexander Calhoun; Judith and Alexander were the parents of Archibald's wife Frances. If this is so, then Archibald's ancestry is known (see the 1933 book by George Hamilton titled "The House of Hamilton" for further details) back to Andrew Hamilton, b 1613, prebendary of Kilskerry, Co Tyrone, Ireland and rector of Magheracross, Co Fermanagh, 1639-1662, d aft 1680, m Rebecca Galbraith from Mountgavelin, Northern Ireland. Their son Rev. James Hamilton, b 1638, prebendary of Kilskerry 1662-1666, in 1667 rector of Donagheady, Co Tyrone, and Taghboyne, Co Donegal, styled of Mountgavelin, Archdeacon of Raphoe 1674/5 and Chaplain to the Earl of Arran, d abt 1685, m Catherine Leslie. James and Catherine were the parents of Judith and possibly of Audley Harrison Hamilton. H-045 is a first cousin once removed of H-157, a second cousin once removed of H-170 and a fourth cousin once removed of H-096. He is also a relative of H-130 *********** H-130 Archibald Hamilton, b 1704 Laggin District, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, m Frances Calhoun. In 1733 Archibald and Frances emigrated to Augusta Co, VA. H-130 is a descendant of their son William Hamilton who m Patience Craig. Thus, he is a relative of H-045, H-157, H-170, H-222 and H-096 and the ancestry of Archibald Hamilton is presumably the same as that suggested in H-045 http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/g/a/gah4/HamDNA/EAnc.html.
