I've been trying to gather "Kinkaids" on Facebook. This young man, Robert Kinkaid sent me the following when I inquired as to what information he might have regarding his ancestry. He's extremely proud of his heritage. He wears his kilt, attends the Burns Suppers each year, attends Highland games, but apparently has no interest in finding out "who he is". I mentioned the DNA testing to him, but he doesn't seem to be interested. Here is the only information he has regarding his family. If this sounds familiar to any of you, perhaps you might be able to interest him in DNA testing. Kincaid, 88, of Rockton died at 6:26 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in his own home. He was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Martinez, Calif., to Earl J. Kincaid and Rosamond (Garner) Kincaid. James was raised after the age of 2 by his father and the help of many family members. During the Depression, they left to return to Beloit, Wis., but ended up with a couple of years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School while in the service in 1941. While a member of the high school's ROTC program and being a member of the National Guard he was enlisted into the U.S. Army at the age of 17. During World War II, he spent most of his enlisted time in the Pacific in the area of Buna and New Guinea. He was awarded the Silver and Bronze stars as well as other medals. He returned to the United States in 1945. After returning, he became a plumber and was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 23. After being discharged from the service, he was married and had three children, Earl (Lonna) Kincaid of Irving, Texas, Mary Lynn (Ed) Mygland of Long Island, N.Y., and Evan (Debby) of Glendale, Ariz. They gave him eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and twin great-grandsons. In 1977, he married Sandra (Maggie) Burk-Stien and gained three more children, Daniel (Karen) Stien of Waunakee, Wis., Rebecca (Rich Hastings) Stien of Rockton and Douglas (deceased). He coached Little League and was a Scout leader. In the past, besides singing in the church choir in California, he was a member of the Beloit Barber Shoppers. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge in California and member of the Rockton and Roscoe Masons. He also belonged to Disabled American Veterans and Walter Graham American Legion Post 332 in Rockton. He enjoyed doing genealogy with his wife and at one time belonged to two genealogy societies. He was a member of the "Wild Ones" and with his wife had his own little native garden. He also belonged to the Rockton Township Historical Society. His favorite pastime was fishing, which he enjoyed doing with his best friend, Howard Jadderstrom. Even with all this, his favorite thing to do was just to spend time and do things with his wife and grandchildren. Besides his family listed above, he is survived by his grandchildren, Sarah and Travis Kincaid, Jesse (Kari) Mygland, and their children, Kjersti, Seth and Bjorn, Marieke Mygland, Lise Mygland, Justin, Eric and Skye Kincaid; his second set of grandchildren, Tracy Acker and Derek Stien, Erie (fiancé Gary Thonn), and children, Olivia and Joey, Abby, Tammy and Thomas Hunt. He would like to give special thanks to Becky's children, without whose help he would not have been able to have stayed at home. He especially wants to thank his granddaughters, Abby and Tammy, who put their lives on hold to care for him these past several months. James was predeceased by his beloved father while he was serving in World War II; and by Douglas Stien from his second family. He and his family would also like to thank his family physician, Dr. Joseph Ross, who was always there for encouragement and support. A big thank-you to our friend and chiropractor, Dr. Bradley Reich, who came weekly to visit and help Jim be more comfortable. Also a thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice, which helped with his care. Ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., with the Rev. Lisa Abb of First Congregational Church, Roscoe, officiating. Final resting place will be in Rockton Township Cemetery, 600 West St. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, any gifts given to the family will be given to granddaughters "Nurse Abby" and "Nurse Tammy" in thanks for their dedication and love to help them get started in their lives again. I'm sorry I'm running late on this and I apologize if the format is confusing. My husband, Charles KinKaid is Participant #1494 in Group B. I've not been able to get any further back than Alexander KinKaid. We used to be in close contact with Ray Kinkaid until his death. It would appear that my husband's Alexander is either a brother or cousin to Ray's ancestor in County Tyrone. Charles has dementia and I haven't had any time to pursue this any further back, since I'm his fulltime caregiver. Chalkley made brief abstracts of the Augusta Co. court records. He would not made any conjecture as to who came with whom and where they came from or how they were related beyond what was in the records. The rest appears to be from a story well known to Gay researchers. My insertions are in [], the rest is in the stated book. It would be interesting to know if there is any documentation for the 1739 date for Gay family migration from Ireland. I suspect it is actually the date they came into Orange Co., perhaps proving importation in that year. The actual arrival in PA could have been several years earlier. Sue Liedtke >From June Mefford Kinkead's "Our Kentucky Pioneer Ancestors, A History of the Kinkead and McDowell Families of Kentucky" published 1992. pp 28-32 THE GAY FAMILY The following is condensed from "Genealogies of Kentucky Families", a part of which was related by Jane Gay Stevenson, a niece of Eleanor Gay and William Kinkead. After a sojourn in Pennsylvania, the Gays moved into the Borden Tract, at that time a part of Augusta County, Virginia, known as "The Pastures." Today, it is located in Rockbridge County. James Gay, father of Jane Gay, was one of six sons of William Gay. His brothers were William, Robert, Samuel, Henry, and John. His sister Eleanor married William Kinkead. James had come from Ireland as a boy, and in all probability was born there. Settled in the Calf Pasture by 1743, he built a fort the protection of his family and neighbors, many of whom were members of the Gay family by marriage: Kinkeads, Dunlaps, Elliotts, Grahams, Lockharts, McIlwains and others. They were all Scotch-Irish pioneers who sought a home in the Calf Pastures, and had come to Virginia from Pennsylvania, mostly from Lancaster and Cumberland Counties. [The story goes on in the words of Jane who was 7 years old in 1757. She talks about living on the Calf Pasture and indian raids. Her mother was killed in 1758. Most of "The Pastures" were not in Bordon's Track and remained in Augusta Co. when Rockbridge was formed. James Gay evidently lived near the southern end. William/Eleanor Kinkead lived at the Northern end of the Great Calf Pasture.] ***** The following is copied from a William Bury Kinkead narrative, recorded by Elizabeth Shelby Kinkead, his daughter. "The ancestors (William and Eleanor Guy Kinkead) were Scotch people. They left Scotland after the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, and went to Ireland, settling in the northern part of that country; my grandmother's people, about four miles out from Derry. They were devoted Presbyterians, but did not side with either of the extreme parties of that day. King William represented their ideas, and they held him in highest admiration. "I can well remember, a little boy of ten years of age, standing by my grandmother and being delighted to listen to her give the history of that memorable siege (the siege of Londonderry), which she had heard from the lips of her mother, whose father was in the siege. This narrative is also recorded in G(eorge).B(lackburn) Kinkead's memoirs, quoted below: [here the author gives G.B's very detailed description of the Siege of Londonderry as told to him by his father who heard it from his grandmother who had it from her grandmother. Note that there is a bit of a discrepancy in where the story came from] George Blackburn Kinkead has this narrative under the Kinkeads in him Memoirs but it is the opinion of the author that this family history is that of the Gay family. The father of George Blackburn Kinkead, William Bury Kinkead, says: "this story told to me by my grandmother (Eleanor Gay) (was) told to her by her mother, whose father was in the siege of Londonderry." ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter A. The source you are particular on is not actually Chalkey. It is someone's family history given at: http://echandgs0.tripod.com/reynolds/id11.html The Chalkey part ends with Walkup. I don't see anything in Chalkeys that says the Kinkeads came from Londonderry. I don't see anything in Lyman Chalkey's writings here that the Kincaids came from Londonderry. He talks about who went with him to Orange Co., Va. Furthermore, in the absence of a quoted source he, writing in 1912, would not be a source for a family arriving in the early to mid 1700s. * Irish Genealogy Road Show to Feature Ordinary Folks <http://www.genealogyblog.com/?p=9487> I ran across this on the new Genealogy Newsline on FRPC online site. Thank you Treasa Brookman #4323
Barbara in your message you stated that the Kincaids in Ray and Clay Co. Missouri originated from Capt. Billy. Do you know who that is and where he came from? There are also kincaids buried in the old new hope and the new hope cemetery and in the Harden Cem in Harden, mo. The Ray Co. Genealogy group has a good online site with quite a lot of info on it. Their members are also good for finding people for you. They found the grave sites of 4 of my great great grandparents that we could not find.
Read this part of the post which is speaking of Eleanor Guys father at the beginning: If as stated William Guy came with the Kinkeads & others and as stated Willima immigrated in 1739 it follows that the Kinkeads came in 1739. My suggestion as to which Kincaids would be Thomas/Margaret Lockhart d 1750, John the Weaver and possibly Andrew/Isabella who bought land on Cubb Creek in 1764 along with son Andrew Jr. (Andrew Jr is of Augusta Co. when he sells the land in 1770. There is an Andrew in Augusta Co.1752-4. Andrew & Isabella are very important names in the Capt. William/Eleanor Gay family). My hypothesis is that these 3 Kincaid elders plus David/Winnifred and James/Jean can account for all early Greater Augusta Co. A-1 Kincaids. Hamilton, Elliot, Walkup, Graham, Campbells and Gay are all associated with the Great and Little Calf Pasture Rivers in Augusta Co. Elliot and Walkup were pretty much confined to the Little Calf Pasture. Hamiltons and Grahams appear on both Rivers. Campbells are on the Great Calf Pasture and in Albemarle Co. The families are closely woven together for several generations. Hamiltons, Elliots, Walkups, Grahams and Campbells all show up in early Greenbrier Co. as well. The 1739 migration may be a secondary migration of these families as at least some of the Hamiltons arrived in 1733 on the Ship Hope. Archibald Hamilton Res. Ards County Downs with wife Frances Martha Hamilton unmarried age 17 Andrew Hamilton age 24 with wife Martha Kinkead Hamilton age 21 Andrew/Martha Hamilton owned land on the Great Calf Pasture near the land of Rev John, John the Weaver and Thomas/Margaret Lockhart d 1750. Their daughter Isabella m Andrew, son of William/Eleanor Gay Kincaid. William/Eleanor Kincaid lived on land at the head of the Great Calf Pasture near land granted to William Preston in 1750 who sold to George Campbell & Samuel/Margaret Campbell Tincher who sold to Thomas/Hannah Tincher Kincaid in 1770. Hannah was dau of Samuel/Margaret Tincher. According to what I have gleaned from World Connect Archibald (m Francis Calhoun), Martha and Andrew were children of Audley Harrison Hamilton b 1677, Londonderry IR d 1762 Donegal Castle, Donegal, IR. William/Alice Hamilton who owned land on the Little Calf Pasture is also Audley's son. The Hamiltons were in Lancastor Co. PA prior to coming to Augusta Co. VA Little Calfpasture Grants 1749 William Gay, 490a and 410a. The latter is described as "on both sides of the river c Wm Gay c Rev. Hindman. (rev. Hindman d prior 1762 as his nephews have the land c James Stevenson in that year. (the 2 grants may be to father & son) 1754 Samuel Gay 354a c William Elliot c William Gay. In 1762 Sam is in NC when he sells to James Gay. This deed must have been to clear up title as James Gay sold the same land to David Martin in 1759. Barb posted information about this family March 18, 2010. Will of William Gay Jr. written 9 May 1755 Wife Margaret, eldest son John plantation George Campbell lives on, formerly held by James Stevenson, son Robert the plantation testator lives on. Daughter Mary, daughter Agnes. Execs, wife and brother John Gay. Teste: William Elliot, John Fulton, James Stevenson Margaret Gay supposedly m Alexander Hamilton 12 Nov, 1758, however, she appears to have been married to him before 16, Nov 1757 per the record below so the yr given for the marriage may be mis-recorded and should be 1757. Margaret may have been a Walkup. In 1765 Alexander/Margaret Hamilton sold 238a on Jackson River to William Hamilton, who in 1780 sold the land to Andrew/Mary Kincaid. Andrew/Mary were neighbors to Alexander Hamilton on the Little Calf Pasture River in 1777.. The History of Woodford Co. KY says Wm, John, James, Robert, Samuel, Henry and Eleanor were the children of Wm Gay Sr. who fought in the Siege of Londonderry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don W Kincaid" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 09, 2011 2:11 PM Subject: [KINCAID] Kinkeads from Londonderry > While searching I found the below from Chalkey's Chronicles of the > Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia and wonder which Kinkeads he is > referring to in the 2nd paragraph. While searching I found the below from Chalkey's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia and wonder which Kinkeads he is referring to in the 2nd paragraph. Since he states William Gay/Guy immigrated in 1739 and that he came with the Kinkeads and other named families, I suppose we could assume the Kinkeads immigrated in 1739 also. I am curious which Kinkeads he is referring to and since he stated Kinkeads there must have been several, one of which would likely have been William Kinkead who married Eleanor Guy/Gay, ancestor of Bill Kinkead # 1426. Do Chalkley volumes show documentation for what he says. If so perhaps the documents might show which Kinkead lines were involved. Hello everyone, George Kincaid of Charleston, South Carolina stuck to the English side during the Revolutionary War and was thus forfeited and he fled to England. He died in Exeter. We do know that George was married to a Marion. His Will in Exeter names his wife, mother Grizel, sister Mary and brother Patrick. The connection to William Kincaid and Grizel Agnew comes from records relating to the sister Mary. Her death is recorded as follows: {29 December 1797} At Exeter, at the house of her brother, Patrick Kincaid, Esq. Mrs. Mary Ross, relict of the Rev. Andrew Ross, late of Balsarroch, at minister of the gospel in the parish of Inch [The Edinburgh magazine, or Literary miscellany. Vol. XI, new series. Edinburgh, 1798. p. 159. col. 2]. Rev. Andrew Ross (1726-14 Dec 1787) of Balsarroch, Kirkcolm Parish was the minister of Inch and Saulseat from 1762]. Their marriage is recorded as: 1784. Septr 4th. The Revd Mr Andrew Ross Minister of the gospels in the Parish of Inch and Miss Mary Kincaid in the Parish of Wigtown gave in their names in order for Proclamation of Marriage. pd tax. [GROS, O.P.R. Marriages, Inch Parish, Wigtown county. Mary Kincaid, 4 September 1784, 886/00 0010 0115]. It looks like Mary and George was the children of William Kincaid and Grizel Agnew of Wigtownshire, Scotland and they thus be from thesame area as the Rev. John Kincaid of Chalcarroch who was transported to New Jersey in the 1680s for his adherance to the Covenanter cause. William Kincaid married Grizel Agnew in Wigtown Parish, Wigtown on 21 February 1731. This is the only family of that time recorded there in Wigtownshire that Mary could fit into. William was later a merchant traveller in England. George Kincaid was connected to a William Kincaid in South Carolina: Records of the Court of Ordinary: "George Kincaid to administer the estate of William Kincaid mariner deceased as principal creditor to be read in the parish church of St. Michael. July 1st 1768" [South Carolina Historical and Genealogical Magazine. Vol. XXVI (1925), p. 127]. Do we have a good summary of his activities in Charleston? Are there any references to Agnews in his activities in the US? Best wishes! Peter Kincaid Fredericton, NB, Canada

This info is interesting since my wife Pat is an Agnew and her Agnew line was in SC. The Agnew DNA project now has 17 participants, doubling in the past 6 months. It now has a team of 3 administrators. Pat's line has one participant so far but I believe there is one other Agnew DNA participant who traces to a different line of Agnews in SC. http://www.fresnobee.com/2011/01/07/2224300/aron-kincaid-actor-in-1960s-beac h.html Aron Kincaid, actor in 1960s 'beach' movies, dies at 70 Posted at 07:25 PM on Friday, Jan. 07, 2011 By DENNIS MCLELLAN - Los Angeles Times LOS ANGELES Aron Kincaid, an actor who appeared in 1960s "beach" movies such as "The Girls on the Beach" and "The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini" and later had careers as a model and an artist, has died. He was 70. Kincaid, who lived in Beverly Hills, died of heart-related complications Thursday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, said his longtime friend Rodney Kemerer. The tall and handsome Kincaid was a UCLA student when he was spotted in a Los Angeles stage production by a casting agent and signed to a contract with Universal. That led to a regular role in the final season of the sitcom "Bachelor Father" in 1962 - as Warren Dawson, the junior partner of John Forsythe's Hollywood attorney Bentley Gregg. Dawson becomes engaged to Gregg's niece, Kelly, played by Noreen Corcoran. Kincaid later appeared with Corcoran in the 1965 comedy "The Girls on the Beach" and had roles in "Beach Ball" and "Ski Party," and made what was billed as a "guest appearance" in "Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine" - as well as appearing in "The Happiest Millionaire, "The Proud and the Damned" and other movies. Kincaid, who also made guest appearances on series such as "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Get Smart," moved to San Francisco in the early 1970s and launched a successful career as a model. He also had a 20-year voice-over career in hundreds of commercials and did voice work on animated TV series such as "Smurfs," "Jonny Quest" and "The Transformers." He was born Norman Neale Williams II in Los Angeles on June 15, 1940. His father, a second lieutenant in the Army Air Forces, died during World War II. His mother remarried and moved to Oakland, where Kincaid graduated from high school. After graduating from UCLA in 1962, he enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve. As an artist, Kincaid used the name N.N. Williams II. He sold his landscapes and seascapes through galleries in Laguna Beach, Calif. He had no immediate survivors.
I am a great-great granddaughter of James Madison Kincaid, b. 20 Aug 1804 married to Sarah Ann Craven. The confusion of the two John Kincaids married to a Nancy keeps resurfacing in family histories. I don't know why the Nancy Grimes Young name was ever invented- This seems to surface from death records at the Kincaid cemetery in Knoxville, Ray CO, MO.. There is absolutely no known documents to attach the Young name to Nancy Melinda Grimes who was married to John Milton Kincaid, b. 19 March, 1854. This John Milton Kincaid is a grandson of John Kincaid/ Nancy Young - the son of Alfred Kincaid. This information has reached the internet resources for family history and, consequently shows up in researcher records. If you have the name Nancy Melinda Grimes Young Kincaid in your records, please check your resources. I have no idea where the name Smith creeps in here either. There were Smiths in the Kincaid family. The families of Kincaid, Craven and Grimes did intermarry. There were several different Kincaid's who married into the Grimes family, also the Yoakum family, and VanBebber family. I believe that the name that the confusion started with John Kincaid/Nancy Young and his brother Thomas Kincaid/Martha Wyatt. Thomas and Martha named one of their duaghters after their sister-in-law Nancy Young Kincaid by naming her also Nancy Young Kincaid. This younger Nancy Young Kincaid then married John Major Grimes, and so becamse Nancy Young Kincaid Grimes. However she was never a Smith. So we actually had John and Nancy Young Kincaid, and John and Nancy Young Grimes. A cousin of Nancy Young Kincaid Grimes named Nancy Melinda Grimes also married into the Kincaid by marrying John Milton Kincaid. It seems that Kincaid mean must lave like Grimes women as my ggrandfather Thomas Asbury Kincaid also married a Grimes by marrying Josephine Idella Kincaid. Whatever I think that there were about 6 or more marriages between these 2 familys/ Meredith Kincaid ________________________________ From: Dorothy Eichbaum <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, January 7, 2011 11:06:11 PM Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Morgantown, WV Kincaids / I am a great-great granddaughter of James Madison Kincaid, b. 20 Aug 1804 married to Sarah Ann Craven.
