Peter, Many thanks to you for the following items. I am not quite sure of the first item. The 2nd item is definitely correct according to the family bible and the copies of the obits that have been passed down to me through the family. Per the bible Joseph Kincaid was born August 6, 1844. This may be the son of Joseph in the 1st Article. No middle name or initial is given. Elma Jane Arnett-Simpkins was born March 17, 1845. Elma Jane Simpkins married a Mr John Arnett who passed away after they had had 2 children, a son William E. Arnett and a daughter Virginia M. Arnett. Following John Arnett's death she remarried to John Wesley Kincaid. Elma Jane passed away on October 29, 1927. Surviving children include; J. C. Kincaid, Mrs. Dan Block, of Fairmont, WV and JOSEPH R. of Connelsville, PA. Four children preceded her in death: Virginia M.Arnett, Lydia Kincaid, Clark W. Kincaid and Bessie May Kincaid. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter A. The Rev. Alexander Calhoun was Vicar of Templecarne Parish, Pettigo from 1698 to 1717 and may be buried in Carne Graveyard. His great grandson, John Caldwell Calhoun was born in South Carolina, in 1782. He was elected to South Carolina’s state legislature in 1808 and three years later entered the House of Representatives. As chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, he introduced the declaration of war against Britain in 1812. In 1817 Calhoun was appointed Secretary of War, a post he held for eight years. Calhoun became vice president of the United States in 1824 under John Quincy Adams and was re-elected in 1828 under Andrew Jackson. He resigned in 1832 over tariffs, which hurt the slave-owning South. Thus John C. Calhoun became the first U.S. vice-president ever to resign. John Caldwell Calhoun died in Washington, D.C. in 1850 and was buried in Charleston. In 1957, United States Senators honoured Calhoun as one of the five greatest senators of all time. In 1844, as Secretary of War, he signed the treaty annexing Texas to the USA John Caldwell Calhoun, 1782-1850 Vice President of the United States .****************** If anyone has access to jstor documents, the following article may tell more about his family. I get 7136 Kincaids. One would assume that about half were males. I wonder how many male Kincaid head of households this represents. One gets the impression that there would be about 500 familes here. I also wonder how many are of UK and Irish origin. Surely some are of African origin. Must be a lot of us out there given that the population has pretty well doubled since 1950. I talked to a black Kincaid last week who lives near Castlewood, VA. I was hoping to find a Kincaid of some spelling who might help find a local historian to give a talk to our group during the Kincaid Gathering. What is interesting in his case is that his folks came from Hawkins County, TN where Joseph Kinkead was on of the first settlers and several generations of the descendants of David and Winfred lived. He did not know the origin of his surname but assumed his ancestors slave owners were Kincaid. His wife was a Kincaid whose family was originally from New York and lastly in West Virginia before coming to Virginia. He promised to consider the dna test so we will see. I plan to extract all Kincaids born in Ireland and Scotland or with parents born in Ireland or Scotland into separate files. This part of the project will have to wait until I finish all the states, Britain and Canada. And there are many African American Kincaids and some listed as mulatto in the census. It would be fascinating to obtain DNA samples from these families. Sincerely Norman Kincaide --- On Tue, 2/1/11, Peter A. Kincaid <[email protected]> wrote: > From: Peter A. Dear Kincaid listers, It is with great pleasure that I announce the uploading of ten new files to my Index of Kincaide: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kincaide/ These files represent part of the 1880 project that I have undertaken to compile all Kincaids from the United States Federal Census into timeline like documents. Below is the break down of numbers for each state. I also intend to include Kincaids from the 1881 British and Canadian Census. The largest number of Kincaids in one county is Ray County, Missouri with 86 Kincaids. I am finding Jamaica quite interesting of late. It would be great if we can get a male relative of Cookie Kinkead to participate in the DNA project. As far as I have been able to gather, the background for this letter extract is that at that time there was a political battle over the movement of the capital of Jamaica from Spanish Town to Kingston. The Governor, Charles Knowles, had succeeded in getting enough support to move the capital in the Spring but this support had collapsed by the Fall of that year. I don't see enough in this note to determine who the writer was or what side he was on. I would have to assume he was for the Kingston party and was declaring that they had enough support to move the capital to Kingston. It would be nice to know for sure as this would determine where the Kinkead tavern was (ie. Kingston versus Jamaica). So far I would have to assume Kingston. Best wishes! We are very pleased to announce a new participant we believe can be documented back to David & Winifred Kinkead of Spotslyvania, Albemarle, Augusta and Washington Counties of Virginia. Since David has been one of the most discussed ancestors on the Kincaid List over the years, we are excited about the participant. I want to commend Amon's sister Debra Kincaid Griggs for all the hard work she has done over the past few weeks in looking up documentation and checking it with not only the participant but his cousins. We have enjoyed phones visits with many of the Kinkeads in the area South of Abingdon, VA where David & Winifred last lived. It is fortunate that some of this line never went further than Hawkins County, Tn with some, like the participants grandfather, moving back to now Scott Co. VA, all less than 120 miles from Abingdon. We will allow some time on our trip to our Kincaid Gathering to go to Hawkins County to copy any further documents needed to prove back to David and Winifred. Yours aye, Don

Thank you very much for sending this to me direct Alice! This source actually says the marriage contract between Agnes Buchanan and John Kincaid of Auchinrivoch (or Auchinreoch). The key thing is Auchinreoch is in brackets. There was actually lands of Auchinrivoch near the lands of Auchenreoch. Perhaps there were two different families here headed by a John Kincaid with both married to an Agnes Buchanan. John Kincaid of Auchinrivoch did so about 1623 while John Kincaid of Auchenreoch married his Agnes Buchanan in the 1630s. Sure wish I had access to the Buchanan of Drummikill records this record was based on. Thanks again Alice! I have located some new tidbits on Charles Kinkead that makes me wonder if there were two contemporary Charles Kinkeads in Strabane; one a merchant and the other a watchmaker. Hard to tell for certain. Regardless, a Charles Kinkead went to the Caribbean from Northern Ireland. I found a contemporary Charles Kinkead in Jamaica. This could be the Strabane merchant as he traded in items from Jamaica so might have travelled back and forth until he failed in Strabane in 1769. On the other hand the Jamaican Charles could be a cousin of Charles of Strabane and could be the source for some American Kinkeads. The Jamaican records are: Charles Kinkead and Mary Newton Jarrett were married in Hanover, Jamaica on 17 July 1762 [FamilySearch. Caribbean Marriages, 1591-1905]. Mary would appear to have been of the wealthy Jamaican family of Nicholas Jarrett who married Sarah Newton. It would appear that this Charles also had illegitimate children: Mary Kinkead, age 12 years, illegitimate child of Charles Kinkead by Sarah Witter, was baptized in April 1768 in St. Elizabeth Parish [St. Elizabeth Parish Register I & II, 1707-1825. Volme I, p. 29]. Little Kinkead, age 9 years, illegitimate child of Charles Kinkead by Sarah Witter, was baptized in April 1768 in St. Elizabeth Parish [St. Elizabeth Parish Register I & II, 1707-1825. Volme I, p. 29]. Millie Kinkead, age about 9 years, illegitimate child of Charles Kinkead by Sarah Witter, was baptized in April 1768 in St. Elizabeth Parish [St. Elizabeth Parish Register I & II, 1707-1825. Volme I, p. 29]. Please let me know if you find anything that may relate to the Charles Kinkead of Jamaica. Best wishes! Peter
Of interest there was a Charles Kinkead of Jamaica and Florida. Wonder if he is a descendant of the earlier Charles. Charles Kinkead (October 3, 1913 - June 1, 2007) was a Jamaican photojournalist and journalist. Kinkead worked as a news photographer for a number of Jamaican publications during his career. Among the newspapers who he worked for were The Gleaner, the Jamaica Standard, the Daily News, and the Jamaica Times, a weekly newspaper publication. While working at the Daily News, Kinkead won the Seprod Human Interest Photograph Award in 1973. In 1978, Kinkead also won a national Jamaican award, the Order of Distinction, for his "for his contribution in the field of photo-journalism". Kinkead moved to Florida in the 1980s to retire. He died of a stroke on June 1, 2007 at a Florida hospital after becoming ill at his home in Pembroke Pines. He was 93 when he died and was survived by his wife and five children. Also Dr. Edmund Clarke Kinkead, ancestor of Cookie Kinkead was born in Jamaica in 1873. His father was Edward Daniel Kinkead & mother was Urselena Clarke. EDK ran a drug store, which is still operated today by Kinkead female descendants. Cookie's father was Richard (Dick) Kinkead and her grandfather was Frank Kinkead. We are still trying to contact Joe Kinkead of Kingston in hopes he will do the dna test. Don ----- Original Message ----- From: Peter A.
