Kelso Washington has a Scottish heritage day/weekend usually on or about the 1st/2nd weekend of September every year. lots of games and clans abound, they have a parade that you can march in and play your bag pipes if you want. If you are really good throwing the hammer or dancing in your kilt they are glad to have you, if not they still are glad to have you. take I-5 to exit 39 and ask for the highline games. the founding father of Kelso, came from Scotland and named his new city after his old one in the home land. take care....Jeff Bergman, 8th great grandson of John and Nancy Young Kincaid.... ________________________________ From: James R. 3. From: Barbara Van Hout Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 8:28 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Alexander Kincaid in the 1830 Woodford County, KY census Margaret Messer-Quick wrote asking for the parents of the Alexander Kincaid in the 1830 Woodford Co, KY census. It is likely that Alexander was the son of Guy Kinkead/Lovey Dictum who moved to Christian County, KY after 1810. Guy Kinkead, a. 26-45, is in the 1810 Woodford County census above his father William, a. 45+, and John Kinkead, a. 16-26, the youngest son of William/Eleanor, is below William. Sue gave us this information about the Guy Kinkead/Lovey Dictum family a few days ago. I saw two Garrett families on the same 1830 census page as Alexander Kincaid, so this could be a link to Alexander’s brother William’s wife, Elizabeth Garrett. Sue wrote: “The middle name Love may indicate that your William b 1804 may be the son of Guy Kinkead b March 14, 1779 married Love Dicturm, daughter of Joseph Dictum and Rachel Love, May 15, 1800 Woodford Co. 3. -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Van Hout Sent: Friday, February 25, 2011 11:54 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KINCAID] 1880/1881 Project This message to the list in 2005 is about William Kinkade and Sarah H. Stewart. Based on this message and the 1850-1880 federal censuses for Grayson County, KY, I believe that this William Kinkade was the oldest son of Robert/Mary of Hardin County, KY. William's first wife was Harriet Kermickle (another spelling for Carmichael) whom he married in 1811. The 1830 and 1840 censuses for Hardin County show William with a wife born in the early 1800's. William/Sarah's youngest child Eliza's death certificate indicates that she was born in Olney, Richland County, IL in 1845, which is where many of Robert/Mary's children moved to in the 1840's and 1850's. Darlynn graciously sent me the copies of the documents that she found on this family. "I had to research this William for a College History class project. I have alot of copies of documents from microfilm that pertain to this individual. I hate to just throw it away and was wondering if someone out there is researching this person and would like to have my research. I will gladly send it to you at my expense. By the way, we did find out while doing this project, that William S. Kinkades's second wife Sarah Harriet last name was Stewart not Cain. She is living with the Cain's on the 1860 Census in Grayson County, because one of her siblings had married a Cain. She and William married in Christian County, next to Logan, on 8 Nov 1823. Her mother's name was Polly Stewart. Please let me know, if anyone wants this research and I will get it off to you." Darlynn Frodsham Pleasant Grove, UT 84062 [email protected] *************************** There is a letter from Sadie Kinkade, dated 1921 from St. Louis, MO, which is in Robert's RW pension file. She asked for service records for a Robin or Robert Kinkade from Kentucky. According to Richard Olin Kinkade, who can trace his family to Grayson County, KY, Sadie was his aunt. This letter was written on the letterhead of the Otis Elevator Company, Locust and Twenty-Third St., St. Louis, MO. and dated July 6, 1921. "Dear Sir: Will you please advise me if you have anything on file pertaining to Robert or Robin Kinkade, who came to American from Ireland to fight for America's independence during the Revolutionary War. After the war he settled in Kentucky (I think either Grayson or Hardin County). Also please send me copy of Bounty Claim, if possible. Thanking you in advance for this information, I am, Yours truly, Sadie Kinkade, 2742 Allen Avenue, St. Louis, Mo." 1. Re: [KINCAID] Kincaid Orphan Lineages
    2. Norman Kincaide
    3. Thanks, Dick. I came up with the 1880 project to get me through the darkest part of winter. Since I'm retired I have plenty of time to key stuff. So once I started state by state, and being the goal oriented person I am, a once daunting project was gradually completed. I hear there is another winter coming in 2011-2012; I guess I could take up the 1850 project then. Also, the 1880 Census is free at: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp and any researcher can validate any record in the 1880/1881 project. I also thought that the DNA project will be driven by research. Research is driven by available data. If I made all of my Kincaid information available to Kincaid researchers that would drive traffic to the my Index of Kincaide. I guess Rootsweb and Ancestry.com is largest genealogy research site. So I hope researchers will see the benefit of DNA testing by the way my information is organized. I did all the keying so there are going to be keying errors; and I am constantly cleaning them up. I'm also having fun, which means I can't leave this project alone. Thanks, Dick. 3. Dear Rich; One place you can start is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_games . You will find a list of some of the more well attended games. Do a search by the name of the games not the community links. Where do you live or where are you traveling? If you search Scottish Games by jurisdiction (State/Province/Country) you may come up with the information you seek. Good luck and have a wonderful time celebrating your heritage.
