Dear Kincaid Listers, I have created a new file: Kincaid Genealogical Historiography at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kincaide/Kincaid%20Genealogical%20Historiography/ I have added two documents: an introduction and Dr. Herbert Clark Kincaid's Kincaid Genealogy, since there had been some interest in that document recently I have posted his work under Kincaid Genealogical Historiography. Sincerely Norman Kincaide
Good news so far. We fly to Rochester, MN early tomorrow and will be back 3/28 if all goes well. We will have our computer with us but no files to speak of. Will try to get taxes done while in the waiting room! We are going to be redoing our back yard here in Gilbert and your comment about gardening is small spaces has given us some ideas to incorporate. While this panel is not a good predictor because of so many matches to other surnames, the results do increase the probality that there isn't a DNA break in his paternal Kincaid line. The rest of the results for his 37 marker order are not due back until mid April but may start coming in anytime after the first. A vetting post to David/Winifred Hobson through their son Joseph/Rebecca Calvert's son David/Mary Williams is nearing completion. A great deal effort is being made to gather every shred of evidence available to support the lineage as it is so important to Virginia Kincaids. Note that the 2 other lines who believe descent from David/Winifred have an 11 at marker 4 (DYS 391). Both lines are believed to come through David/Winifred's son John/Elizabeth Logan. It may be that John was the first in this line with the marker 4 mutation that plagues many of Group A's lines. Hi Connie, We will finally get to meet since you are now in Madison County, KY. Since our Kincaid Cemetery is there, we will be spending 3 days of the Kincaid Gathering in Madison County. We plan to visit Fort Boonesborough Sat the 28th of May with a tour of the fort in the morning and a gathering in the afternoon or vice versa, depending on the weather. We will attend church Sunday at Pleasant View Christian Church which considers our John Kincaid, Jr special since he donated the land for Bethel Church, the forerunner of Pleasant View. We will have a speaker or 2 after church and lunch, then go to Kincaid Cemetery to honor our ancestors and allied families buried there. On Monday we will make Old Harrod's Fort where our Rev. War hero James Kincaid and Sarah Wilson were the first to marry there and also Wilson's Station south of Harrodsburg. If times work out right sometime in the 3 days, we will also visit Big Hill , East of Berea, where our William Kincaid was killed by Indians and Station Camp in Estill County where Moore Kincaid was killed by Indians. Some books show Moore as the last person killed by Indians in then Madison County. Perhaps you can join us for part of the gathering. If you or anyone else on the Kincaid List would like to receive the schedule and info about the Kincaid Gathering, send a private email to me off list at [email protected] & we will add you to the list. All Kincaid's whether directly kin to Joseph Kincaid/Kinkead of Albemarle County, VA or his son John & wife Margaret Lockhart are invited to join us and will be issuing a special invite to our close DNA cousins of all spellings as soon as the schedule is firmly set with the hotels and wagon yards selected. Some at the gathering will also go to the Clinch River in SW Virginia where John & Margaret lived before going to KY and then to Albemarle County where Joseph and John are first found in records. My ancestor David Kincaid and his brothers, James and John were all 3 in Madison County in 1800. I wonder who the other Kincaid who was in Madison County is, namely Joseph Kincard, first on the list? Also the Robert Kincade of Garrard County which joins Madison on the South? Attachments cannot come through on Rootsweb. If you'll notice the date, Peter sent that email on March 8. Cyberspace is sometimes strange. Peter has subsequently sent the pages mentioned below as well as the rest of the paper to both myself and Alice Gedge. He has also given permission to pass the write-up along to others provided we give the proviso that there are many errors contained in the paper and to use the material with caution. If anyone would like me to forward the two emails containing the pages I can do so. Ruth Cherecwich In a message dated 3/11/2011 1:25:09 P.M. Hamilton, John Graham, Samuel Lewis and James Brown, gentlemen justices, June 8, 1841 to pay Mary Kincaid and Margaret Kincaid, orphan children of Thomas Kincaid, their estate when of age." p. 198 in the above book: "Will of Thomas Kincaid (kaid) (X) Dated May 1, 1840 Wit: John Stephenson, Adam Stephenson, William Robertson Probated June 1840 Exec: brother-in-law Charles L. Barbara -----Original Message----- From: Sue Liedtke Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2011 9:42 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Fw: David Kincaid, Indiana Warrant 1829 Thanks Barb. This fills in more of David's family. Since all the DNA samples proven to John of Bath are through son Charles, it would be nice to have a sample from this line. It should match as we know that William b 1806 of Gasconade Co. MO was not the son of Charles therefore must either represent the line of another of John of Bath's sons or that of a brother or cousin of some degree. Archibald/Rachel Hickland Kincaid refered to as the father of William J Kincaid toward the end of your post was the son of Thomas/Isabella Kincaid Kincaid. William J would have been a first cousin to John Hodge Kincaid. Isabella was the daughter of John of Bath. Thomas is thought to have been a brother of William/Agnes, proven son of Thomas/Margaret Lockhart Kincaid d 1750. We do not have a DNA sample from this line. The last of 4749's upgrade to 67 markers has been returned. He matches 7529 who believes descent from John/Catherine Coulter at all markers from 38-67 except at marker 60 (DYS 446). 4749 has a 12 rather than the 13 for 7529. Thanks Barb. -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Van Hout Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2011 1:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KINCAID] David Kincaid, Indiana Warrant 1829 The Bureau of Land Management has upgraded its website for land records. There are several records for John H. (Hodge) Kincaid who bought land in Tippecanoe County earlier than David Kincaid of Bath County, VA,, as early as 4/3/1829. . http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx It may be that David Kincaid went to Indiana to visit his son John and daughter Elizabeth Wanless, and then returned to Virginia. David Kincaid a. 60-70 was in the 1830 Bath County, VA census, with 3 males 1 a. 10-15; 1 a. 20-30; 1 a. 40-50; and David, a. 60-70. There was 1 F a. 10-15 and 1 F a. 50-60 in his household. The 1820 Bath County, VA census, dated Dec. 25, 1820, shows David Kincaid a. 45+ with 6 males (sons?) 2 a. to 10; 2 a. to 16; 1 a. 16-18; 1 a. 16-26; David a. 45+. There were 3 females, 2 a. to 10 and and 1 a. 45+ in his household. He was just below Charles and Ferdinand Kincaid in this census. Several Gwinn families are shown below David on this page. The Wanless Web has much information about David Kincaid/Sarah Hodge of Bath County, VA. It gives the records that prove John H. Kincaid's sister married Stephen Wanless in Bath County, VA and this family was also in Tippecanoe County in 1830, just above John Kincaid in this census. http://www.wanlessweb.org/ The 1830 Federal Census for John H. Kincaid, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, Randolph Township, shows two males age 20-30 in the household, 1 male under 5 and 1 female a. 20-30. I have seen federal land records, purchases out of the Crawfordsville, IN federal land office, that tie John H Kincaid to Bath County, VA. The time frame was around 1828-1830. His father David also purchased Tippecanoe County land but appears to have never lived there. He sells the land to John a few years later. Finding the VA ancestry of William J. Kincaid was one of my toughest challenges. The obscure clue I had was that John H Kincaid purchased land in Carroll County, Indiana, and then sold it about 1837. WJK marries in Carroll County in 1844 and then appears in the 1850 census. So, it appears that John H Kincaid & Stephen Wanless and family came to Tippecanoe County around 1830. The Carroll County land where JHK owned land, and where WJK settled are very close to each other, and less than ten miles from where JHK was in Tippecanoe County.
