I have added a disclaimer to H.C. Kincaid's genealogy. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kincaide/Kincaid%20Genealogical%20Historiography/kincaid%20lennox%20galbraith.htm so that all Kincaid researchers will be advised and notified of his flawed work. Sincerely Norman Kincaide
Hi, Amber, I can find some of the names that you have given on the Kentucky censuses and records at ancestry.com Fred M. Kincaid is shown as an enlistee in the World War II Army on March 29, 1941 at Fort Knox as a private in the Regular Army. His birth year was 1922 and he lived in Henry County, KY at the time of enlistment. He had one year of high school; his civil occupation was listed as architects, he was single without dependents; height was 63” and weight was 126. I cannot find him in the 1930 census, where he would have likely been living with his parents or relatives. The George Kincaid b. 1815 married Margaret McGuire, and they had a son George B Kincaid age 2, according to the 1860 Federal Census for Owsley County, KY. I have not seen the 1858 George Kincaid with a wife in the later censuses, so cannot connect Frederick Miles Kincaid with this family. Do you have birth or death certificates that show the connection? This is the family posted on the internet that matches the 1815 George/Margaret and son George. We don’t know for sure who were the parents of the James Kincaid who married Margaret Wyatt. 3. JAMES3 KINCAID (WILLIAM2, SAMUEL1) was born 1767 in Bath County, VA, and died 1828. He married MARGARET WYATT January 1, 1793 in Bath County, KY, daughter of ALCIBIADES WYATT and ANNE ROBINSON. She was born 1774 in Greenbrier County, VA, and died 1831. Notes for JAMES KINCAID: "JAMES had a land warrent for 34 acres of land along the branches of the Kentucky River in 1821. The 1830 census shows his wife Margaret in then Estill county as a widow, head of household. (Tallega was then in Estill Co., but now in Lee Co. The already compiled genealogy which Helen Shaefer had in her possession, states that the original land, the 34 acres belonging to James still belongs to Hugh Franklin. Later that part of the County which was then Estill became Owsley in 1843, and still later in 1870 it became Lee County. If the birth dates on George B and Malinda prove true, it would mean that this family was in Kentucky as early as 1810. In the genealogy referred to above; George's birthdate was given as 1815; in the 1860 census he was listed as 49 years of age a discrepency of 4 yrs. On my recent stay in Kentucky I visited both Kincaid Cemeteries (branch with Edward W. in it, also Socrates Senior and Socrates Jr. and the Lycurgus branch which is further out the ridge by about two miles) in hopes that I would find the graves of James and Margaret but if they were at either place they were not identified. There were graves with natural stones which were old graves. Both of these cemeteries are at Fincastle and the land on which James supposedly first settled was at Tallega an the branches of the Ky. River. There is an old cemetery near there but it is so grown over you cannot get to the stones." My grandfather was a Frederick Miles Kincaid from Kentucky and I started his family tree through ancestry.com and it led me all the way back to John Kinkead (b. 1710) married to Julia Avery/Nancy Nixon. I was wondering how accurate this information was and if you had any more information on the line? From what I gathered John sired William (b. 1740) who sired James (b. 1767) who sired ? who sired George (b. 1815) who sired George (b. 1858)? These are all Kinkead/Kincaids and I am lost as where to go next? Any info or advice you have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Amber

Amber if you have a brother or male Kincaid cousin who would be willing to take the DNA test it might help you. We have a participant who believes descent from John/Julia Avery-Nancy Nixon. He has a result which differs a bit from our largest Kincaid family. If your testee were to match him there could be credence to this lineage. We believe that James/Margaret Wyatt Kincaid would not have this variance. It is believed that this James was a brother to the ancestors of 2 other of our participants who share another variance from this large Kincaid family. River. There is an old cemetery near there but it is so grown over you cannot get to the stones." Andrew/Mary Caldwell Kincaid did not mention a daughter Elizabeth in his will. The court case involving the estate of James Caldwell, bro of Mary, does not mention an Elizabeth either so no I don't believe this is the same Andrew. I think Andrew/Mary Caldwell were in KY prior to Samuel Caldwell's move. It is possible he is the Capt. Andrew who shows up in Lincoln Co. KY where brother-in-law James Caldwell first appears. The 3rd panel (markers 26-37) of of #198598's order to 37 markers has been returned. He matches the Group A AAV exactly except at marker 26 where he has a 12 instead of the AAV 11. In anticipation that the 2nd panel will also closely match the Group A AAV, I have placed him in Group A-1b. This placement is consistent with our expectations but could be changed if the 2nd panel is not returned with the expected results. Debra (Amon's sister) believes she has enough information to vet this line. Posting awaits return of the last panel, editing and a final look through to make sure all bases have been covered. One disappointment has been that a deed for David or his heirs selling the Hunter's Ford land bequethed to Joseph's son David in David/Winifred's will has not been found. This land is located in what today is Scott Co. VA. Deed indexes for all involved counties have been scoured without result. Anyone have any ideas? I have only seen the spelling of 'Wood' for the families of Col. James Wood/Mary Rutherford and James Wood, Jr/Jean Moncure. I have not seen the names spelled with an 's' at the end, so it is questionable if this family was related to Michael Woods of Augusta Co. Connie sent this to the Kincaid list in 2005: James Wood Family Papers 173 WFCHS This collection is comprised of the business papers of Col. James Wood, Sr. and some of his family. The papers are accounts, diaries, receipts and various memorabilia of the family for the period from 1736 to1868. Included are papers of the Frederick County, Virginia Clerk’s office for the period from 1743 to 1769. Col. James Wood, Sr. (1707?-1759) was born, according to a grandson, in Winchester, Hampshire, England. He attended Oxford University, was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, and came to Virginia with one of the colonial governors. Around 1735, he acquired a tract of land "on the branches of the Opequon" from which, in 1744, a large part of Winchester was formed in accordance with his stipulations to the Justices of Frederick County. He built the first "Glen Burnie" in 1738. He married Mary Rutherford in 1738 with whom he had children (1) Elizabeth (b. 1739), (2) James, Jr. (b. 1741), (3) Mary (b. 1742), (4) John (b. 1743-44), and (5) Robert (b. 1747). He died Augusta Co. in 1763 with wife Ann administrator of his estate and Joseph Kincaid one of the bond securers. Her second husband was Robert Williams who in 1786 mentions in his Sullivan Co. TN will his wife Ann, her son David Kincaid and her sister Rebecca's son David Kincaid. These relationships are given in his will. In 1752 David Kinkead and wife Winifred sell to Joseph and Burrough Kinkead land in Albemarle Co. Joseph sold his part of this land in 1768. Burrough's son David of Hawkins Co. NC [my sic: this is in TN] sold Burrough's part of the land in 1790. In this deed it is states that David and Winifred sold this land to their sons Joseph and Burrough. Wife's names are notoriously missing from early Amhurst Co. deeds (Amhurst from Albemarle 1761).. In 1777 Rebecca, wife of Joseph Kincaid of Washington Co. (Hawkins from Sullivan 1786, Sullivan from Washington 1779) released dower on land on Christian's Creek in Beverly Manor which Joseph bought from William & Mary Armstrong in 1762. This same William Armstrong is a neighbor in Hawkins Co. It should be mentioned that Frederick Co. was pulled from Orange and Augusta Cos 1738-43. At that time it also included much of Warren Co. I found no other daughter county for Frederick other than the city of Winchestor pulled 9 sq miles from it. These counties are in the NW corner of present VA and quite some distance from the present Augusta/Albermarle/Amhurst area where the family of David/Winifred lived. The Woods-Lewis connection may be important. Deeds of lease and release David Lewis to David and James Kinkead were recorded in Albemarle Co. on Nov 28, 1745. This land is next to Michael Woods. I am not sure how or if David Lewis and Michael Woods are related to John Lewis and James Woods. Michael Wood's 1761 Albemarle will does not name a son James. A James Woods in 1755 was granted 350a on the N side of the N branch of Meechums River. This is the terminology used for Stockton Creek where most of David Kinkead's land was located. Whether this is the same James Woods mentioned in Barb's post is hard to say. A Robinson was son-in-law to Chiswell who held a very large patent in Albemarle/Amhurst Cos. Joseph and Burrough's land bought from David/Winifred bordered this patent. OK, I mixed up that one. The phony address was Robert's and he was the one supposedly sending the email because he was stuck in the UK. The recipient was me. This scam is going around all over the place just as it did a couple of years ago. Please everyone, use your delete key even if you get an email from a known relative. No need for the sic as this is not an error. Spencer County, State of Franklin and Hawkins County, State of North Carolina became Hawkins County, Tennessee in 1796.
