    1. Re: [KINCAID] Vetting for Charles Edward Kincaid #152189 to Fayette Co. WV[VA]
    2. Bob Arnott
    3. Sue raises part of an interesting issue- The presence of a Mary Kincaid in the household of a Thomas Kincaid(Isabella) in the 1850 Fayette County WV census. However in the same 1850 census a Mary Kincaid 42 yr. old also appears in the household of Thomas Kincaid in the Lewis County WV (Virginia) census. This household also contains a Lucinda Claypole 28 yrs. old. Can Mary ("Polly" Davis) Kincaid be in two households in the 1850 census? This remains a mystery. In 1851 Lucinda Claypole buys property in Lewis County which eventually is delivered to Henry Kincaid, son of Thomas Kincaid of Lewis County and the aforesaid Lucinda Claypole. A branch of the George Washington Kincaid family of Fayette (and then Roane) County West Virginia is impacted heavily by a genetic polycystic disease. This disease results from a dominent gene (and death without a kidney transplant) and impacts fully one-half of the family documented from Willie Homer KIncaid and on (WHK is the father of #49289). Many of my first cousins are directly dealing with this issue. Perhaps this genetic situation which I am trying to tract backward from WHK may be a reason for certain of the mutations observed. This is a lay observation as I am not a trained geneticist. Cheers! 3. In compiling the Kincaids from the 1880 Census I did find duplicate records for individuals and for households as well. I found that a family would list a son or a daughter in their own household when in fact that individual was living with a family by which they were employed and also listed by that household. 2. Barbara Van Hout
    3. Who were the parents of Daniel E Campbell and his wife Catherine? There are a number of RW pension applications for Campbells in Virginia at www.footnote.com. One pension file is for a Rev. Archibald Campbell of Greenbrier County, and Adam D Kincaid signed as a witness. According to this website, Rev. Archibald Campbell had a daughter Susan, who was the second wife of Jacob Smith. Jacob Smith's 3rd wife (according to this website) was Hulda Jane Kincaid, daughter of Samuel Kincaid and Hulda Osborne. Jacob Smith's marriages: 1. Jacob married Judah Clayborn [10704] [MRIN: 3577]. (Judah Clayborn [10704] was born in Pulaski County, Virginia.) 2. Jacob next married Susan Campbell [4372] [MRIN: 1514], daughter of Archibald Campbell Rev. [2789] and Unknown, on 17 Dec 1807 in Greenbrier County, VA.2 (Susan Campbell [4372] died in 1824.) 3. Jacob next married Hulda Jane Osborn Kincaid [2832] [MRIN: 1525], daughter of Samuel Kincaid [10716] and Hulda Osborne [10717], on 22 Feb 1825 in Monroe County, VA.2 (Hulda Jane Osborn Kincaid [2832] was born on 15 Sep 1806 in Greenbrier County, Virginia 2 and died in 1858 in Raleigh County, West Virginia 2.) http://www.livelyroots.com/gerald/4370.htm **************************************** Adam D Kincaid and wife Mary lived next to Rev. WV[VA] It would be wonderful if those of you who have a few minutes could look over this post as to the viability of the links. Comments and questioned are welcome. The last link from George Washington to Thomas/Polly Davis is of special interest as it affects 2 other participants (#49289 & #135736) vetted to George Washington/Mary Catherine Campbell through son George William/Lula Jane Burke. Lines down from Thomas/Mary (Polly) Davis apparently mutate readily. #136736 has the Apparent Ancestral Values for Group A. Both 49289 and 152189 have 2 variances from the AAV which do not match each other. #33001 who is vetted to Thomas/Polly has one variance from the Group A AAV. #101753, vetted to Harvey Kincaid who is believed to be a descendent of Thomas/Polly, has 1 variance from the AAV (does not match the others). #152191 and #155289 are believed to descend from Danial Thomas Kincaid, son of George Washington. Both have the same variances as 152189. 152191 has one additional variance. Vetting posts for these lines may appear at a later time. A brief comment on the death date for Thomas/Polly Davis which is based on the belief of descendents that Thomas abandoned his Fayette Co. family and started a new family in Lewis Co. VA/WVA (believed descendent #156149 who has no mutations from Group A AAV). Bob Arnott and the Lewis Co clerks office have determined that the actual death date for Lewis Co. Thomas is 1873 as the entry appears among other 1873 deaths. A vetting post for #156149 to Thomas/Lucinda Claypool of Lewis Co. should appear within the week. Thomas of Fayette Co. disappears from tax lists in the late 1840's. Mary, age 53 widow appears in the 1850 Fayette Co. census along with Isabella 17 and Mary C. age 17 in the household of Thomas age 21 married within the year. Isabella is the sister of Mary Catherine Campbell, wife of George Washington. This Thomas's second marriage record to Eliza Townsend states his parents as Thomas & Mary Kincaid. For this and other reasons best left to another post we believe that Mary, widow is Mary (Polly) Davis Kincaid. #130207 believes descent from Thomas/Eliza Townsend. He has 3 variances from the Group A AAV. Whether Thomas died in Lewis Co. 1873 or prior to 1850 in Fayette Co. does not affect linking of George Washington to Thomas/Polly Davis. Who is the Samuel Kincaid listed on the permission slip? And the John Kincaid, the witness? 1. Re: [KINCAID] Vetting for Charles Edward Kincaid #152189 to Fayette Co. WV[VA]

    3. It would be wonderful if those of you who have a few minutes could look over this post as to the viability of the links. 1. [KINCAID] Death Date of Thomas Kincaid
    2. Bob Arnott
    3. I spoke this morning with the County Clerk's Office in Weston, West Virginia and confirmed with them my previously stated conclusion that the date of death of Thomas Kincaid (Lucinda Claypole) was 1873 not 1875. As I mentioned in my prior emails, I had based this on the page numbers relative to the location of other year's records in the original Death Registry maintained by Lewis County in the Courthouse from a personal visit. The clerk confirmed to me that following page 81-82 there were additional 1873 deaths followed by pages containing deaths for 1874 and 1875. This I believe settles this issue to my satisfaction and confirms my prior statements that the order of pages in the Death Registry mandates 1873 as the death date for Thomas Kincaid of Lewis County WV. This may change a numbers of prior assessments and verifications. I also indicated that I may ask the Clerk for a formal statement when I next visit Weston. The Clerk's representative indicated that would be possible. Cheers and I will "translate" the Lewis deeds at some point in the near future. 3. Jim, Thanks for letting us know about The History of a Kincaid Family! We bought the online version and find it very interesting. The letters and other documents are very valuable information. I was especially entrigued with the letter from Cecelia Kincaid Lonsdale Ager written in 1829 which details her parents and grandparents. She was the daughter of John Kincaid and Margaret Blair of Bannockburn. Her grandfather was David Kincaid. Do you know if any of your direct line Kincaid's have done a dna test. If so we would like to be put in touch with them and if not we would be highly interested in having one or more do the 37 marker dna test offered by Family Tree DNA. We have 2 Kincaid dna participants who show descent from Bannockburn Kincaid and both are in Group F on the Kincaid DNA results chart. Are either of these your kin? Don W. Kincaid Kincaid DNA administrator team -----Original Message----- From: Jim Newman Sent: Wednesday, April 20, 2011 5:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [KINCAID] Kincaid Book This isn't a compilation of names and addresses! The History of a Kincaid Family, by James Newman and Katherine Kincaid Newman, available from Lulu.com (336 pages, paperback, $16.44 plus shipping, delivery in about 10 days). This is the history of some of the descendants of John Kincaid of Bannockburn, Scotland. The line of descent is John(1), John(2), John(3), David(4), William (5), William (6), Kate(7) to William(8). The family left Bannockburn for London about 1764, where they were silk weavers. In 1847, their business failed, and they emigrated to Canada and then western New York. Some remained there, and others have spread across the United States. The book is compiled mostly from family records. It includes many family letters from the 1820's and 1860's, photographs, paintings and descriptions of heirlooms passed down to the present. Many of the known (to us) side lines of descent are included. We tried to document carefully, so there are more than 250 references. The cost of the book is the cost of printing and distribution - we chose not to make a profit. We hope some other Kincaid cousins will find it useful and can share additional information! Jim Newman (Yes, I'm on the distribution list, under a different email address, but you won't accept email from it for some reason!) Lennox Castle, Lenzie hospital and historic church ‘at risk’ A SERIES of celebrated buildings could face ruin if urgent action isn’t taken in East Dunbartonshire. That’s the warning from Historic Scotland, with around 16 local properties of significant historic interest put on the Buildings at Risk Register. Categories of risk range from ‘critical’ to ‘minimal’ and top of the list is Lennox Castle, in Lennoxtown. The A-listed building was gutted by fire in 2008. It’s condition has been classed as ‘critical’ in the report. The owners have proposed to restore the facade and convert the structure into 32 residential flats. Classed as a ‘high risk’ are Cawder House Stables, owned by Cawder Golf Club, the administration block and clock tower at the former Woodilee Hospital in Lenzie, and the council-owned Lennox Family Vault and Waiting Room at the Old Parish Church in Clachan of Campsie.
