    1. [KINCAID] Kincaid List
    2. The Kincaid Rootsweb List was very valuable for me and many others and we want to thanks all who contributed documents and other information to the list. Also want to apologize and clear up errors in posting I did years ago concerning my ancestor John Kincaid/Kinkead. In several posts I referred to our John as the Captain John who was first a sergeant at Elk Garden Fort in Washington County, VA. This was based on information from several sources including one of my distant cousins who wrote several articles about my line that received wide distribution. No Kincaid researcher ever questioned that my John was Captain John however when we were researching to get documents to prove Michael Joseph Kinkead descended from David/Winifred Kinkead/Kincaid we came to realize that it was more likely that David's son John was the Captain John of Elk Garden Fort and the one who widened the Wilderness Trail to Kentucky. Elk Garden Fort was only about 5 miles from David's son John's land and about 2 0 miles from my John's land. Also found that Virginia paid the John who helped widen the Wilderness Road was paid in Washington County, VA while my John had moved to Kentucky in Winter of 1779 documented by Rev. War application of my John's brother James Kincaid who said he helped move my John and family in Winter of 1779 and even though he did not sell his 300 acres on the Clinch River in then Washington County he did not appear on any further Washington County Tax lists. I had also relied on the book The Wilderness Road by a Robert Kincaid, died 1960, that stated that my John Kincaid was the one who did the Wilderness Road work but I suppose that he had relied on the many early articles that stated my John worked on the Wilderness Road. Indeed my John lived near the end of the Wilderness Road in Kentucky and could have overseen the work but the information we came up with does not indicate this. We also knew that my John and David/Winifred bought land in Washington County the same year of 1765 but did not know in early research that David's son John also bought land there in 1765. Anyway it is my hope that future researchers who access the Kincaid@Rootsweb mailto:Kincaid@Rootsweb archives will not rely on my posts that I now believe were in error. I learned to do research with an open mind and not just look for information on your ancestors in a given area but to see if there are others that have the same name! Thanks to all who have contributed to the Kincaid List and especially to Ruth who had served as admin for many years! Don W Kincaid Dna Kit 1427

    3. Thank you so much, Barbara. The website worked fine once I figured out how it was organized. The whole file is massive. Seems like if you printed it out it would be the same size as the Bible. Also telling the stories of who begat whom. You can get lost in it. I traced my 1755 ancestor in PA back through a Hanna to the Northern Ireland settlement in the early 1600s, then back to their origin in Scotland. Amazing piece of work, mostly without computers and websites. The newest generation wouldn't understand how that would be possible. 3. Thanks to everyone for listing their families. My great grandmother, Mary Ann Kincaid, b. 1842, Mo., was the daughter of Ruth Smith, b. 1818, Greenbrier Co., WV. All of the Smith material, documents and letters show Ruth as Ruth Kincaid.  No mention of Mr. Kincaid's name. All we know is that Ruth and Mr. Kincaid had Mathew, b. 1840, Illinois, and Mary Ann. He was apparently deceased by 1847 or so as Ruth remarried a Sol Ledington, in Mo. and by 1849 was having Ledington children. Have been unable to find any positive information on a Kincaid line that would fit for Mary Ann's father. DNA shows that I have Tincher cousins as well as many others. If anyone has anything that would offer a possible clue, hope you'll write me and give whatever information possible to check out.  It took me 30 years to find Ruth -- through DNA -- and hope it won't take another 30 to find Mr. Kincaid.  <G> Thanks so much. The large R1b-U106 group has switched to groups.io which allows posts and etc. and it is working well. We just need volunteers to create the Kincaid@groups.io project and act as Admins for it. Over a year ago, I offered my 5 drawer filing cabinet containing tons of Kincaid and Nobility related info, including dozens of land documents, marriages, and many other documents from the NewBerry Genealogy library in Chicago. I was very close to meeting someone on this list to take all this research, when I injured my knee and had to have surgery. I would still like to give my years of Kincaid research into good hands. I was the one who first found all the David Kinkead records from the 1720s and 1730s from Culpeper County, and I also discoverd the records of the Lunenburg/Charotte county Kincaids, as well as the Rev. John Kinkead referencss in Windham N.H. 2 full drawers contain documents from the Newberry that I printed out, but never looked at. I also have genealogy maps for a dozen states from Missouri and East. Last call. Pick up and cart away only (with my help). If you go to the archives and search for her, it should be the most recent post made by her. Alterbatively, just look at the last few months for Alice's post. We haven't had many so it should be easy. Rootsweb has not resurrected the material. Very frustrating. 1. [KINCAID] Re: Kincaid discussion list
    2. Larry Kincaid
    3. I’ve tried clicking on the enclosed website for the Kraft-Gedge database. There’s nothing there but a blank screen to fill out. It cannot be reached by that link. I suppose on March 1 we won’t get any response. Does their incredible database still exist somewhere else? I was able to access Norman’s Kincaid civil war database to find my great grandfather who served out of Ohio in the Western campaign. What a gold mine these labors of love databases are for all of us. Larry Kincaid C-2 On Wed, Feb 26, 2020 at 12:00 AM Kathleen French <iweave@msn.com> wrote: > I'm sorry to see the list go. 3. I'm sorry to see the list go. So many have been helpful to me. Another option is a closed Facebook group, although I think I like io.groups better. Two of my weaving groups have gone there and it works well. Still stuck on Samuel Kincaid. I know, there are too many Samuel Kincaids in Greenbrier, WVa Samuel Kincaid 1710-1780 Hugh Kincaid abt. 1744 Samuel Kincaid 1788 - 1866 Robert Kincaid 1824 - Abt 1852 Virginia Kincaid 1848 - 1931 Kathleen French ________________________________ From: Ruth Cherecwich via KINCAID <kincaid@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 25, 2020 8:19 PM To: donwkincaid@cox.net <donwkincaid@cox.net> Cc: kincaid@rootsweb.com <kincaid@rootsweb.com>; Ruth Cherecwich <utahn1@aol.com> Subject: [KINCAID] Re: Kincaid discussion list Hi folks, When I wrote to the List a month ago saying the Rootsweb mail lists were being discontinued, I asked if there was anyone who would be willing to start a new list elsewhere. Groups.io is where most of the lists are going. It’s free and you can send attachments with posts. I have downloaded the list of members on this list so that it can be shared with anyone who wants to start a list. Also, if someone comes forward this week, I believe there is a way to get all the names transferred at once so that an invitation to join the list can be sent out. I don’t know how to do that, but I would transfer my administration of the Kincaid List to another so that starting a new list could be effected with relative ease. This list has been wonderful. We have had so many conversations and debates over the years. Tempers would flare, friends were made, knowledge was gained and overall we did good. I am glad the archives will continue to help both us and new researchers in the future. I will miss you all. 3. I suggested to Joe, that you could use the LINE app. It works on all Android, Apple, and (I think) Microsoft devices, and you cann chat, send pictures, videos, documents to all or to smaller subset groups. Simply download LINE from an App store (it's free), set up an IDname and then invite others. I'm Mjolnir on LINE (long story). Look me up and invite me to chat while you all check it out. -----Original Message----- >From: Don W Kincaid <donwkincaid@cox.net> >Sent: Feb 25, 2020 4:27 PM >To: kincaid@rootsweb.com >Cc: dhouse95 <dhouse95@earthlink.net>, Deanne <dkincaid99@yahoo.com> >Subject: Re: [KINCAID] Re: Kincaid discussion list > >Thanks to Dennis for contributing your large collection of Kincaid documents and thanks to Joe for saving them for Kincaids of all spellings and dna groups! > While finding a new discussion list site we can post info to the Family Tree DNA Kincaid activity site. I am 65 miles SW of Chicago. -----Original Message----- >From: Deanne via KINCAID <kincaid@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Feb 25, 2020 11:28 AM >To: Norman Kincaide via KINCAID <kincaid@rootsweb.com> >Cc: Deanne <dkincaid99@yahoo.com> >Subject: [KINCAID] Re: Kincaid discussion list > > That's a crying shame.   This list was so active for so long.    I listened intently on all discussions for all the lines for many, many years. 3. Wow. It’s a necessity. I cannot see how to forward without it. Or back. I recently googled a question that came up reading one of Peter’s recent comments. A rootsweb find came up that was very useful. As I read down I came across a response from myself! 5 years ago or so. It was still useful. This has happened more than once. We all need this treasure, as well as Peter’s, Norman’s, Alice’s database, and Sue’s DNA and tree vetting site. Not to mention our collective memory and personal, intertwining family histories. We have to get past this “glitch.” Larry Group C-2.
