We are the --Allan & Betty Kimmells---, that visited Gimsheim & Eich a couple of years ago. Although I have put away our maps, we were only about 1 hour from the Frankfort airport. We had rented a car, & drove there, staying 2 nights-- then we returned & spent our last night in Germany with the same Zimmer-- or, Gustehaus, owned by a Frau Helwig. Her rooms are nice enough, & her food is more than plenty! She & her husband own a winery & , of course the vinyards. She speaks pretty fair English, & we enjoyed our time with her. We also met 2 important men in Gimbsheim. One is Herr Mahlertwein, who lives not far from our Gustehous. He is the city's historian, & gave us a tour of their city cellars-- where all the records are hept.. However, he speasks no English, & we had a youn boy, that translated poorly. But, the other man we met was Herr Wilhelm, the school's English teacher! We were able to bring copies of some of the Kimmel genealogy records back with us, but, it would have been much better to have talked in German! Eich is only a very few klometers away, & there is a wonderful resturant near the Rhine river, & close to town-- its alittle hard to locate, but Frau Helwigs son-in-law led us there. We sat & ate outside & watched the water traffic on the river. I hope your visit is as pleasant as ours. It is a lovely area, & the people treated us as honored guests!
