    1. [KIMMEL] responses to babz4@juno.com
    2. Thanks for the info from the many listers who answered my post. Here is some more of the letter from my Mother's cousin. "The Kimmel's were brewers of Kimmel Beer. Kimmel/Kummel, means caraway seed and was what gave this beer it's distinctive flavor. Some of the Kimmels settled in the Pittsburg area. George Kimmel moved toTusarawas Co, Ohio, then in the 1830's to Union Co, IL. George's son, Joseph Kimmel met and married Margaret Cruse in 1839. the Cruse family were Dunkard's by religeon and it is thought the Kimmels were too, although later they belonged to the Babtist Church and some to the Christian Church. Joseph and Margaret moved to Bowen, Hancock Co, IL in the 1840's. in 1862 they moved to Creal Springs, IL." NOTE: My "cousin" Gwen visted Creal Springs in 1978 and said there were still Kimmels living in the area and there are Kimmel Orchards still in existence and owned by Kimmel descendents. Gwen also was in Germany in 1975 and said Kimmel Beer was still sold there at that time. "Joseph Kimmel and Margaret Cruse had 17 children including a set of twins , one of which died in infancy. There were nine boys and eight girls. Ten of their children lived to be over 80 years old. Two of their sons were in the Union Army in the Civil War. George inlisted at age 16 and died of measles shortly after. Henry served in Company D, 78th Regiment, Infantry of IL Volunteers for three years. He served under Gen. Sherman. Henry lived to be 83 or 84 yrs. old and died in Quincy, IL." NOTE: George and Henry are the only names I know out of Emily's 16 siblings. Emily Kimmel Coleman and Thomas Fletcher Coleman are my great-grandparents. They had 10 children. The oldest was my mother's father, Joseph Emmett Coleman. The info on the Kimmels came from Emily herself and handed down to me from Cousin Gwen whose Mother was a daughter of Emily and Joseph. Hope I answered some of the questions I received.
