Dennis Kimmell recently e-mailed me, along with some great Gimbsheim pics, a copy of the chapter on the Kimmels in the 1200-year history of Gimbsheim "Der Gemeinde Gimbsheim; 766 bis 1966"--the chapter "Aus der Kimmel Story." I've posted the text on Johann Michael Kimmel, plus my attempt at translating it to English. I hadn't taken seriously that Michael served in the Polish army, but it is apparently recorded in Gimbsheim archives, also his involvement during the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1786! The mention in this book comes from the research of our elusive Major Bill Thompson, who it suggests moved on to Hawaii. 'Anyone know how to track down someone in the military?
