This letter is my attempt at explaining what's going on. First, please understand that these taglines are *not* related to RootsWeb.com's merger with MyFamily.com! That merger has not yet been completed, and our management has not changed. Neither Ancestry.com nor MyFamily.com had any input at all into this advertising arrangement. The timing was just pretty poor (to say the least)! Second, we have already fulfilled this advertising contract, which means that we can go back to using RootsWeb-themed advertising taglines until further notice. I'm sure that many of you will be pleased by that. :-) In general, if you see advertising taglines on your mailing list and you want to remove them, go to the "Customize Settings" section of your list utilities. Most lists will have a "Use commercial taglines?" option that you can turn off. If your list doesn't have this option, that means it's an "unsponsored" list (which means that it wasn't created for a RootsWeb Sponsor). Advertising taglines are required on these unsponsored lists. I hope that clears everything up. I'm awfully sorry that I failed to warn you before we put the commercial taglines on the mailing lists -- it obviously came as a shock to some of you, and I should have realized that it would be a big surprise. -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb.com lead system admonsterator and Chief Hacking Officer --part1_fb.77d9025.26871d09_boundary--
