Edna Viola Kimmel (1876-1940) compiled a family history of the Kimmels of Harrison County, Ohio. Her list of the children of Frederick Kimmel and Elizabeth Yingling includes her uncle Joseph, "who married Caroline Dively, and after her death married Katherine Minard." Joseph and wife Katherine appeared in North Township, Harrison County, Ohio in the 1860 federal census (Joseph Kimmell) and the 1870 federal census (Joseph Kemble). Both censuses list children Mary, William, Hannah, Martha and James. The 1860 census says the children were born in Ohio, but the 1870 census say Iowa. Joseph's cousin Henry (son of Henry Kimmel and Christina Geddinger) lived in Van Buren County, Iowa and appears in the censuses there from 1850 on.
