His name was usually Anglicized in Virginia records to George Lewis Coffenberger or Coffinberry. A family history says he "was born in Stutgart, Wurtemberg, Germany, and that he married in Germany to Katrina Kimmel who was born in Hannover." However, her name is given as Veronica when their daughter Elizabeth was baptised and was listed as Fanny (a nickname for Veronica) in a deed and in her husband's will. The only part of the family story proven to be true is that her maiden name was Kimmel, and by searching this name, I found her (ID'd by Tim Kimmell). I think it more likely that they met on the journey to the New World and then married shortly thereafter. If she was married upon leaving Gimbsheim, I believe it would have been so noted in the records there. They settled prior to 1760 in the part of Frederick Co. VA that became Berkeley Co.
