    1. [KIMMEL] Rudolf Shafer
    2. Timothy W. Kimmel
    3. Following "Some Kimmel Records" where Linda mentions in her Jan. 7 e-mail that she has some notes taken from Rudolf Shafer's research. - --------------------------------------- Rudolf Shafer was commissioned by some American genealogists in the 1920's to find out what he could on the Kimmels out of Gimbsheim. Howard E. Kimmel of DuQuoin, Illinois was one of those who got papers from him in 1927. I've seen references to Shafer's work, but never found any copies of his actual research. The list of names isn't an actual lineage--you'll see they aren't in chronological order. They are a collection of miscellaneous records that Shafer had come across that were probably related, although Shafer didn't appear to know exactly how. There is a source to find out how most are related. Most of the names appear in a book called "Die Geschlechterbuch," an annual volume of German family ancestry. A Dr. Hermann Kümmell actually put most of them together and reported it in volume 66 (1929) of the collection. If you have access to a library with a German genealogical collection, it would probably be there. The text is in German but you can figure the lineage out without knowing the language. Hermann Kümmel's entry is what I use as my source for the Johann-Michael-to-Dilmanus Kimmel lineage. What Linda has could be very useful. Shafer studied local Gimbsheim records. We could learn some about what family researcher Dr. H. K. Stoner was working with to come up with his family history because Shafer was one of his sources. I'm very interested in getting copies. --Tim (the one with the web site Pamela mentioned)
