Tim, I have nephew , a retired Sr. Warrant Officer from the Airforce, who will try to find our Dr. Bill Thompson, through the retiree news. You shall be the first to know of any success! Regards Allan Kimmell
Dennis Kimmell recently e-mailed me, along with some great Gimbsheim pics, a copy of the chapter on the Kimmels in the 1200-year history of Gimbsheim "Der Gemeinde Gimbsheim; 766 bis 1966"--the chapter "Aus der Kimmel Story." I've posted the text on Johann Michael Kimmel, plus my attempt at translating it to English. I hadn't taken seriously that Michael served in the Polish army, but it is apparently recorded in Gimbsheim archives, also his involvement during the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1786! The mention in this book comes from the research of our elusive Major Bill Thompson, who it suggests moved on to Hawaii. 'Anyone know how to track down someone in the military? You can see the text at http://www2.fwi.com/~tkimmel/Michael-Story.htm --Tim in Fort Wayne ================================
This was my reply to the Brethren list: Thank you Jan for looking. Thank you Theresa Rogerson for mentioning the KS state censuses. I'm familiar with them, but need to spend more time searching them. Unfortunately they are unindexed. Later I will try to find time to look for John K. Baker in the state censuses, but for now I'm really spread thin, too much to do in too many directions. Seeing the other postings about other John Bakers I thought maybe someone had a record of this one. It was only last week that I discovered that Lizzie Kimmel married John K. Baker. I'd seen the information back in May 1998, but didn't feel confident about what I'd found until Lizzie's date of birth (sent to me last week) matched John K. Baker's wife's date of birth. There were so many Elizabeth Kimmels I wanted to make sure I had the right one. Now I have yet another direction to search. Debby Theresa Rogerson wrote: Did you know that in Kansas they have a state census that was taken every five years after the federal census? In the Family History Library you can order these state census records and you may find a lot more about your family on these census records. Theresa Rogerson I'd also like to add that last week I discovered what happened to both of my great grandmother Mary Ellen (Kimmel) Kistner's sisters. Lizzie's marriage clicked into place after discovering the dates of birth matched. They also had a sister Catherine Jane "Jennie" Kimmel who married Harvey Alvin Babst (born 7 June 1864 in PA, died 8 May 1928 in Geneva, Fillmore Co., NE) on 19 Dec 1889 in Falls City, Richardson Co., NE. Jennie died 26 Mar 1931 in Geneva, NE. They had 4 children: Catherine Agnes "Aggie," John H., William "Earl," and Elmer B. Babst. I'm now in contact with a granddaughter of Aggie. Debby

Baker? According to the 1900 census (Morrill Twp., Brown Co., KS) he was born in MO in Jan 1859. Apparently he married Susannah Elizabeth Kimmel as a second wife, about 1883-4. They took out a license to marry in Brown Co., KS, but never returned it. They may have married in Falls City, NE, or elsewhere. The 1900 census lists two children who were born before his marriage to Susannah Elizabeth (who frequently went by "Lizzie"). They were Katie born KS in Jul 1879, and Bert born KS in Aug 1881. John and Lizzie had the following children (all born in KS): George R. born Apr 1888, Ruby N. born Mar 1890, Archibald born Apr 1892, Stephen born Jan 1894, and Ben born May 1897. John and Lizzie are in the 1910 census in Morrill Twp. as well. It says his father was born in MO and his mother in VA. Lizzie was a daughter of Noah M. Kimmel and Catherine Miller. She was raised Brethren, but I don't know if John K. Baker was Brethren. Lizzie was a sister of my great grandmother, Mary Ellen (Kimmel) Kistner. Dan... It's worth considering, since the same church at Gimbsheim that records Georg's birth does not record a death as it does for others who died in Germany. And his age does allow for him to be George Kimmel whose son's births are recorded in 1866 and 1868 in the Bermudian Lutheran Congregation (note to the others: Philip's sons were associated with the Reformed Congregation of the same church). The two main obstacles you'll need to get around is 1) to explain why Johann Georg is not mentioned in Johann Jacob of Ephrata's 1784 will with brothers Adam, Jacob and Rupertus, and 2) explain how "Johann Georg" Kimmel would become "Georg Claus P." Kimmel in the cemetery in N.C. Don't forget that we still have to account for the fact that the only known reference to Georg in N.C. places his birth at about 1851 (d. 1806 age 55y). Good luck... As I may have mentioned in a previous message, I believe my 4th ggrandparents, Georg and Catherine Kimel (Kimmel, Kuemmel), migrated to NC from the York Co. area of PA around 1770. The dates are compatible for my Georg to be Johann Georg Kimmel, b. 1745 in Germany and the 10th child of Johann Jacob Kimmel, b. 1705 in Gimsheim Germany, the son of Johann Michael Kimmel. Does anyone out there have any information on this Johann Georg Kimmel (b. 1745), such as his wife's name, where he lived, and where and when he died? Tim Kimmel only mentions his birthdate on the Kimmel website. Thanks for your help. Dan Kimel

Greetings! I am searching for information on Mary Ann Kimmel (b. abt 1765 d. 18 Apr 1851). She lived and died in Guernsey County, Ohio. She is buried at the Antrim United Methodist Church cemetery in Guernsey County. She was married to Christian Beam (b. abt 1774, d. 9 Jan 1844) who is buried beside her. They had at least 4 children: Abraham Beam (b. abt 1799) Catherine Beam (b. abt 1805) Daniel Beam (b. abt 1800) Elizabeth Beam Christian and Mary Ann may have lived in VA before moving to OH. I would very much appreciate any information on this family. Robert Beam robert.beam@fammed.utmem.edu
Browing on Amazon.com's Bibliofind I found a few things of possible interest. (Again, I'm too cheap to buy these.) There is/was a Time Magazine cover of Admiral kimmel fr Dec. 1941 available. Also something by L.Kimmel from a German antiquarian store that was priced in DEM--dates were 1585, 1654 etc.etc. And now I have to ask if the Tim Kimmel who writes all these family books is OUR Tim Kimmel or a different Tim Kimmel.... I guess there's a Frank Kimmel that's somewhat famous with the race car set. Not being a NASCAR-type person myself, I'd never heard of him until I ran across his website. I e-mailed him to see if he "fit in" with any of our many Kimmel lines on this list, but I never heard back from him. Too busy driving I guess. ~ Pamela
Hi Kimmel list... I was watching the Alabama Stakes from Saratoga today and noticed briefly as the horses paraded to the post that one of the trainers was named Kimmel...I think his first name was John but am not sure. I guess I blinked and it was gone before I knew it. Does anyone know of this person? Just curious. BTW..Silverbulletday won! What a filly! Gayle Putt Cincinnati
One of the cable news shows (MSNBC?) was discussing movie reviews and ratings and one of the movie reviewers was a Daniel Kimmel. never heard of him before. Jan T
Hi, Dick! Actually, I was surprised to see Tom Kimmel stuff and not Dick Kimmel stuff for sale on eBay. That's because I've heard of you, but hadn't heard of Tom. (I'm old; I don't have to keep up with new musicians any more). But I will check out your website. Jan T
Hi Betty Jane, Did I read you message correctly that your line was originally Kimel and became Kimble with John Kimble, Sr? I've been looking into the origins of my 5th gggrandparents, George and Catharina Kimel, for some time. They lived in Rowan Co., NC. Up 'til now I have assumed they moved from Pennsylvania before 1770, because they were Lutherans and lived in an area where there were significant numbers of people of German ancestry, known locally as "the Pennsylvania Germans." I think there is the possiblity they were members of the Bermudian Lutheran Church of York Co. PA, listed as Georg and Catharina Kuemmel, before 1770. However, I may be wrong, and my Georg Kimel may be one of your John Kimble/Kimel, Jr.'s missing sons. I believe my Georg Kimel was born ca. 1751. I don't want to self promote - but, since there was some discussions of Kimmel music connections - if anyone is interested here is info on more Kimmel music: Dick Kimmel & Co http://www.banjo.com/Profiles/dkc.html
Thanks for the info from the many listers who answered my post. Here is some more of the letter from my Mother's cousin. "The Kimmel's were brewers of Kimmel Beer. Kimmel/Kummel, means caraway seed and was what gave this beer it's distinctive flavor. Some of the Kimmels settled in the Pittsburg area. George Kimmel moved toTusarawas Co, Ohio, then in the 1830's to Union Co, IL. George's son, Joseph Kimmel met and married Margaret Cruse in 1839. the Cruse family were Dunkard's by religeon and it is thought the Kimmels were too, although later they belonged to the Babtist Church and some to the Christian Church. Joseph and Margaret moved to Bowen, Hancock Co, IL in the 1840's. in 1862 they moved to Creal Springs, IL." NOTE: My "cousin" Gwen visted Creal Springs in 1978 and said there were still Kimmels living in the area and there are Kimmel Orchards still in existence and owned by Kimmel descendents. Gwen also was in Germany in 1975 and said Kimmel Beer was still sold there at that time. "Joseph Kimmel and Margaret Cruse had 17 children including a set of twins , one of which died in infancy. There were nine boys and eight girls. Ten of their children lived to be over 80 years old. Two of their sons were in the Union Army in the Civil War. George inlisted at age 16 and died of measles shortly after. Henry served in Company D, 78th Regiment, Infantry of IL Volunteers for three years. He served under Gen. Sherman. Henry lived to be 83 or 84 yrs. old and died in Quincy, IL." NOTE: George and Henry are the only names I know out of Emily's 16 siblings. Emily Kimmel Coleman and Thomas Fletcher Coleman are my great-grandparents. They had 10 children. The oldest was my mother's father, Joseph Emmett Coleman. The info on the Kimmels came from Emily herself and handed down to me from Cousin Gwen whose Mother was a daughter of Emily and Joseph. Hope I answered some of the questions I received. Hi Jan, I've been on the list for a while but have never posted. I usually just observe However this time I have a question for you. My Kimel line became a Kimble line of Va/WVa through John Kimble Sr. I noticed in your post that you have Stump and Bower lines. These lines are also associated with Va/WVa and the Kimel/Kimbles there. My Kimel/Kimbles are from Hampshire, Hardy, Grant & Pendelton Counties Va/WVa from 1760's to present. Some of John Kimble/Kimel's Jr. sons and children are lost to us. We do not know where they went. I'm wondering if your Stump and Bower lines could be related to those that are also related to our Kimel/Kimble line. We are missing Lambert/Leonard, George, & Michael Kimel/Kimble. Where were your Stump & Bower lines from in America? Maybe my missing Kimel/Kimble went that way also? I know who the "Tom Kimmel of the CD's" is....he is a musician and recording artist who lives in Nashville. He comes by the Kimmel name through adoption. His web page is located at: http://songs.com/tk/tk-home.html I bought a couple of his cassettes back in the mid-eighties just because his last name was the same as mine and was pleasantly surprised and delighted at the quality of his music.... Later on I discovered his web page by accident while searching for Kimmel links. Remembering the cassettes of his I still had, I emailed him and complimented him on his music. He graciously responded and we traded a few emails back and forth. Corliss Kimmel I've never visited eBay's site before, but someone told me there were Shively items there so I looked. And ran a search on Kimmel, where I found some stuff that intrigured me. The most interesting was something for stamp collectors-- "Kimmel Eagle" cover. What pray tell is the Kimmel Eagle? Also artwork by Lu Kimmel (old pinup) and an autographed something or other by Frank Kimmel. Didn't know who they were, nor Tom Kimmel of the CD's. The eagle cover interests me. Anybody know the history? Jan
eBay is an auction site, and I'd never looked at it till this week, though my nephew finds it highly entertaining. Some of the things that are up for auction are relatively cheap, and some aren't. The only reason I looked at it was that somebody mentioned some antique Shively items. So when I went to check on those, I also checked on the Kimmel name. It's not so easy to check on some of my other family names--Champion, Mock, Badger, Stump, Bower. (There are a lot of mock turtle neck sweaters for sale, and lots of Victorian memorabilia includes folks sitting in a bower.) On my computer, on the line when you'd normally type in http or whatever, I just type in EBAY. Then I asked for a Kimmel search, including search of descriptive material and not just titles. Quite a few things turned up. Nothing tempting, though, but that KIMMEL EAGLE cover except I don't know enough about stamp collecting. Jan
