    1. Re: [KIMMEL] HOW'D YOU GET IN MY GRAMMA'S TRUNK?
    2. Hi! Simon FERNER born ca 1829, Prussia; md ca 1856, NY?; d.Nov 1886, Los Angeles, CA He was married to: Ricka SPRINZ, born 17 May 1835-39, Prussia; d.11 Feb 1931, El Paso, TX Ricka's father: Samuel SPRINZ, born 1821, Germany; His father was Bernard. I don't know if they married Kimmels or not. (: They are my only German lines so far -- my others are Scandinavian & British Isles. ) So, I'm wondering, how did your Kimmels get in Gramma's trunk? Do they connect to these SPRINZ & FERNER families? Can't see how yet. And... to color things a little more... We don't know who my father's real father was. ( Grandma was quite a lively lady, and she wasn't telling anything!) Could it be that the father of her child was the one who left the Kimmel notes? My suspisions as to my father's parentage actually lean in another direction, so I'm not sure what to think. I have a semi-readable sample of handwriting in a copy of a letter written by a man who is sending my grandmother money for her son's support. Can't read the signature, though. I think he's getting a little smashed as the letter progresses. The writing deteriorates by the third page. I guess perseverence is the key... Anyway, I will try to send the next Kimmel notes page tomorrow. I wish your Berhard were mine, but I don't sink so. 2. This came to me, but I thought there might be folks on the list that would also find it interesting... In a message dated 01/10/2000 6:35:16 PM Pacific Standard Time, rdunlap@tsf.net writes: << As you requested, here is information on my husband's (Dan) ancestor, the daughter of Johann Valentin Kimmel (1701-1768): Maria Veronica b. 16 Jan. 1726 Gimbsheim, d. 1813 Berkeley Co. VA (WV) married Georg Ludwig Kaffenberger (George Lewis Coffenberger) ca 1751/2 Valentine Kimmel's estate record in 1770 shows distribution to Ludwick Kauffenberger and Fronica his wife. Georg Ludwig Kaffenberger arrived at Philadelphia on the same ship as the Kimmel families, the ST ANDREW, 14 Sep. 1751. His name was usually Anglicized in Virginia records to George Lewis Coffenberger or Coffinberry. A family history says he "was born in Stutgart, Wurtemberg, Germany, and that he married in Germany to Katrina Kimmel who was born in Hannover." However, her name is given as Veronica when their daughter Elizabeth was baptised and was listed as Fanny (a nickname for Veronica) in a deed and in her husband's will. The only part of the family story proven to be true is that her maiden name was Kimmel, and by searching this name, I found her (ID'd by Tim Kimmell). I think it more likely that they met on the journey to the New World and then married shortly thereafter. If she was married upon leaving Gimbsheim, I believe it would have been so noted in the records there. They settled prior to 1760 in the part of Frederick Co. VA that became Berkeley Co. VA (now WV), where both died in 1813. Their children (order listed in father's will): 1. Mary Coffinberger b. d. m. Thomas Newman 2. Maria Elisabet Coffinberger b. 25 Oct. 1753 (bapt. 21 Apr. 1754 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster PA, dau of George and Veronica), d. 1820-30 Ohio Co. VA, m. James Curtis ca 1775 Berkeley Co. VA. 2. Hi! The newsletter went out today (at last) even though it says it's the December issue Now all I've got to do is 1099s and payroll tax reports etc. before the end of the month. Plus a house plan for a rental house to be started next week..... When I saw this note, though, knew I had to respond. William James Kimmel is in my data base, thank you, as the adopted son of Louis H. and Margaret Edmonds Kimmel. He and his sister were taken from the Orphan Train in 1911 by the Kimmels.. Their actual surname was Potthoff. I had wanted to re-establish contact with these Kimmels and knew we did not yet have them on our mailing list for KFN. Some of William's adopted siblings are still living but did not have addresses for William's children. We also have the granddaughter of William's sister, Connie DePasquale, on our mailing list. Several years ago Kimmel Family news ran an article on William James and the Orphan train connection, and we do have some photos of him included. I'd be happy to send a copy to Nicole, and we'd like to add her to our KFN mailing list. Jan Tompkins
