    3. Patricia, I do not have Mosser/Musser information. If you can provide additional information about John Fike, Sr., maybe I can identify him in my records. 1. [KIMMEL] Julianne Musser & Jefferson Kimmel & Croner connection
    2. I'm reviewing stuff in my in-basket and am grateful for you giving me a DOD for Jefferson Kimmel and his wife Julianne. My records show she is d/o Tobias Musser and Susanna Croner. Susanna, I believe, is a sister of Barbara Croner my direct line ancestor who married David Kimmel 1763. I'm also trying to learn as much as I can about the Croner/Groner lines. (It's my husband who has the Musser ancestry, also a Brethren family.) Do you have a DOD for Jefferson Kimmel's father, Benjamin? I only have a DOB. I'd still like to know the maiden name of Magdalena who married Elder John Groner, father of Barbara Croner Kimmel and Susanna Croner Musser. Why do I have Jefferson Kimmel as a double-L Kimmell? Since your family is still in Stony Creek Twp, Somerset County, does that mean these folks never left Stony Creek? I don't have places for most of them, alas. Wish I'd known there were genealogy types amongst the Kimmel researchers when I was visiting there a year or two ago and was zipping around strange roads looking for Kimmel landmarks and cemeteries that often turned out to be behind somebody's cornfield. (Fortunately for me some Kimmels on Kimmel Road were nice to me and showed me a few landmarks, but they weren't into genealogy at all, and I knew I was really imposing on strangers.) Maybe someday we can have a Kimmel genealogy conference at Somerset? I'd come for that. Thanks. Jan T Jan T

Adam's 3rd child was also Joseph. I need to go back through my records and check out the birth and death dates of the 2 Josephs in question. It would REALLY be a coincidence if they were actually born in the same year AND died in the same year as well. I most likely have my dates goofed up. ~ Pamela

    3. I find some of my families through court records. After the death of John Brubaker (who married Anna Musser 1751-1819), there must have been problems in settling the estate. The eldest Brubaker daughter was Elizabeth, who married Solomon Kimmel (1770-1825). These records give several Kimmel and Musser names, so I've organized notes on what I found. The record is incomplete, but perhaps it will help to show documented evidence on some of our ancestors. Laurel Messenger, May 1975, page 7 Estate 2--1803--Administration Bond filed Feb. 22, 1803. Res. Brothersvalley Twp. Administrators Peter Brubaker, Robert Philson and George Swartz. Bondsmen John Campbell and Joseph Weigley. 1. [KIMMEL] Barbara Kreider & Tobias Kreider
    2. Interesting, Debby! When I looked up in my records Bishop Tobias Kreider 1721-3/1791, I see that I have him as s/o Martin Kreider and h/o Anna Buckwalter. Children listed are Jacob Greider and Barbara Kreider Musser. I also have a Tobias Kreider b 1826 d 1902 in southern Ohio who m. Lydia Welbaum. Children Lawrence Kreider and Willis Kreider, amonst others (10 I believe). Not sure how he fits into things. They show up on a list of ministers and elders for Church of the Brethren 1795-1989 requesting help in grathering info on these people and their families in 1989. The information on Bishop Tobias Kreider came from FOBG newsletter summer 1991 p 31. FOBG is Fellowship of Brethren Genealogists, and the newsletter is now called Brethren Roots. Mennonite Family History 1992 January carried a query by Carolyn Denlinger "Tobias Kreider (May 17, 1749-May 14, 1838) m. Barbara Diffenbaugh (May 13, 1761-Nov 13 1820). They had a son Jacob (May 19, 1781-Aug 8, 1855). Was there a son David March 1 1779-Jan 9 1844)? " She wanted more information on this family. PA German Marriages by Donna Irish has a Tobias Kreiter m. Maria Thompson of Lebanon 28 May 1793. And a Tobias Kreider, widower, m. Maria Dohner 24 Dec 1829 at Tabor First Reformed Church at Lebanon, Lebanon Co. PA. Which Tobias?? PA Mennonite Heritage mentions on p 33 Oct 98 a Tobias Kreider 1721-1791 who was f/o Jacob Kreider 1744-1789 a s/o Jacob Krittor/Kreider 1681-174- who m. Elizabeth ----. As to Anna Buckwalter Kreider born 10/28/1725 and died 10/6/1805, the name and dates for her came from PA Mennonite Heritage p 33 Oct 98. Years only. Wenger gave specific dates and calls her Anlea, names parents as Theodorus Buckwalter, Barbara Landis. >From Cathryn Driver (a triple Kimmel, I think, who married a double Kimmel, as I recall?) the name Jacob Greider as s/o Tobias and Anna Buckwalter Kreider. Jacob 1744 died 8/29/1789. Wife's name from FOBG summer 1991 p 31 "The David Kreider Family of Montgomery Co. Ohio." DOB< DOD from PA Mennonite Heritage p 33 Oct 98. Says he is s/o Tobias and Anna Buckwalter, grandson of Jacob Krittor/Kreider 1681-1741 and Elizabeth ---. I too have notes indicating that Barbara Kreider Musser is d/o Bishop Kreider and Anna Buckwalter. from PEOPLE OF THE MARSH 7/75 (via Duane Sawhill): John [Musser] (1753-1828) married Barbara (1751-1833) the daughter of Bishop Tobias Kreider (1721-1791) and granddaughter of the immigrant Jacob Kreider (Ref: : Gen Record of Greider-Kreider Family in America. by Stauffer. According to Mrs. Harry Jensen of Lancaster, Barbara's mother was Anlea Buckwalter (1725-1805) d/o Durst & Barbara Landis Buckwalter. John & Barbara Kreider Musser located the "Round Meadow" farm in Somerset in 1784. They had eight children. So the only things I've got that say Barbara wasn't Tobias's daughter but the d/o of Jacob or John Jacob Kreider are Austin Cooper's Brothersvalley book and a sourceless pedigree appearing in the Berlin genealogy newsletter, probably based on Cooper.... The only source I have for Tobias's father being Martin and not Jacob or John Jacob is an e-mail from Daniel Wenger 3/99. Hmmm. No wonder we need to go confirm the information with original sources, something I have yet to do on all this. Thanks for making me take a second look, Debby. Jan T

"Jacob Kreider, father of Barbara, owned the land on which one-half of the city of Lancaster now stands. << I've seen this. I've also seen the Mennonite Research Journal from April 1976 page 14 which says Barbara Kreider (wife of John Musser) was a daughter of Tobias Kreider. I believed this to be Bishop Tobias Kreider (1714-1791) who married Anlea Buckwalter (1725-1805), although this was not stated. I have a record of a Jacob Kreider (c 1742 - c 1822) m1 Susanna Long, who are parents of a Barbara Kreider. This was from Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage Oct 1985 page 23. I don't know if that is the Jacob which was referred to in Austin Cooper's book. I can't say with any authority who Barbara (Kreider) Musser's father was. I find it confusing. I descend from Mary Kreider who married John Light, parents of Anna Light who married Rudolph Meyer II. In my earlier research I thought Mary Kreider was a daughter of John Jacob Greider (1673-1725) and Anna. This fall a Kimmel descendant sent me her information showing Anna Light was a daughter of Jacob Light and Barbara Lnu (that is the way they spelled it). I've been so swamped I haven't had a chance to check up on this. If this is correct I may not have a Kreider line after all. It looks like I'll have to spend a lot of time straightening this out. Does anyone else show Barbara Kreider (wife of John Musser) to be a daughter of Bishop Tobias Kreider? Debby

    1. [KIMMEL] Henry Musser and Susanna Faust; John Musser & Barbara Kreider
    2. You asked about the marriage info I have for Henry and Susanna and its source. In looking at my initial record it says for Henry Musser 1783-1874: "From PEOPLE OF THE MARSH: Henry 91783-1874), a balcksmith, married SUSANNA FAUST (1788-1884). They attended the Reformed and Lutheran Church, where several of their children were baptized, according to the records extracted by C E Saylor. The children were Joseph; Henry (b 1814); John (a blacksmithZ); Daniel (also a blacksmith b 1822, went to Ashland Ohio, where he married Anna Gebhart (1825-1908), had 3 children and died in 1908); Samuel (1825-1889) married his cousin Eliza Kuhns (1827-1863)...They are great grandparents of Harold Everett Musser, also a member of the SAR; Alexander (1829-1922) married his cousin Julianna Brubaker (1832-1922)...They are grnadparents of SAR member Jacob Countryman; David b 1831; Peter b 1820; Mary married Jacob Coleman." I also have a Henry Musser who married Maria Engle of Donegal Twp 20 Sep 1805 at First Reformed Church Lancaster Co. PA, but I do not know which Henry this is. This information comes from PA German Marriages p 238. People of the Marsh for 7/75 indicates a Henry as s/o Hans (John) Musser and I thought it might possibly be him.... As to the parents, John Musser 1753 and Barbara Kreider, my initial information came from researcher Duane Sawhill, who sent a page from PEOPLE OF THE MARSH July-Aug 1975, p 3) with information on many Mussers. Referrrrence given is Genealogical Record of Greider-Kreider Family in America by Stauffer. Additional information on this couple comes from Austin Cooper's Two Centuries of Brothersvalley Church of the Brethren 1752-1952. "Jacob Kreider, father of Barbara, owned the land on which one-half of the city of Lancaster now stands. Map in The Carpenter Family History book. He served in the Pennsylvania Militia during the French & Indian War 1753-1761." PA German Marriages lists a marriage of a John Musser to Barbara Reist, Swat., 11 Aug 1812, witness Mrs. Gloninger at Salem Reformed Church, Harrisburg, Dauphin Co. by Rev. Philip Gloninger. What John Musser was this? A Berlin pedigree (Berlin PA genealogy newsletter) with no source or name for Kate A. Kimmel says John Musser's father was "Hans Musser 1727." Same newsletter says Barbara Kreider's father was John Jacob Kreider (no source, no name.) Apparently this 7/75 issue of PEOPLE OF THE MARSH might be worth seeking out for the article on Mussers. I'm interested in anything else on these Mussers. I'm still expecting them to somehow tie in with my husband's Musser/Stump line in Indiana. Thanks, Jay. Jan T
