Another home remedy from the INGLENOOK DOCTOR BOOK (1903): FRESH CUTS. #636. --Nothing is better than turpentine if immediately applied, as it is painless and will heal without inflammation.--Annie Pitzer, Cordell, Okla; Sarah A. Sell, Newry, Pa.; Ida Wampler Mohler, Leeton, Mo; Clifford Ellis, Dixie, Wash.; MRS. J. H KIMMEL, Morrill, Kans. (Incidentally, Annie Pitzer, who gave the same advice, was my dad's aunt, though not a Kimmel.) "BURNS. #669. -- Apply aqua ammonia immediately. -- PORTER KIMMEL, Morrill, Kans." "'RUSTY NAIL AND SIMILAR WOUNDS. #717. -- Apply grated or scraped raw beets as poultice. Renew as fast as it becomes dry. --Anna Sniteman, Keota, Iowa; D C Summy, Mt. Pleasant, Pa; PORTER KIMMEL, Morrill, Kans." Since this book isn't indexed by contributors, I may have missed some Kimmel entries. Jan T
In the INGLENOOK DOCTOR BOOK (1903), published by Brethren Publishing House--a collection of 19th century home remedies, I found this Kimmel: "NEURALGIA IN THE FACE. 433. --Get whole black pepper and grind fine, put one tablespoonful in three tablespoonfuls of good sour vinegar, and just enough flour to make stick, sprad this on tough paper and lay on the face--eyes and all--and let it dry on. --N J Roop, Warrensburg, MO "Make a plaster of ginger and whisky and apply. --PORTER KIMMEL, Morrill, Kans." [Of the two, I'd be most likely to try Porter Kimmel's remedy.] Jan T
Hi, Lois! I'm a descendant of David Kimmel 1763 (from Johann Philip) but I'm also very interested in those Mussers of yours. My husband has Musser ancestry that is Brethren, and I keep expecting it to link up with the Mussers that married Kimmels. Do you have much on your Mussers and Kreiders? Jan T

I'm a new subscriber to this list so here is my lineage: Johann Michael Kimmel (1662-1734), his son Johann Philip Kimmel (1695-1777), his son Philip Kimmel (1724-1796), his son Isaac Kimmel (1769-1851) who married Anna Musser, their daughter Anna Kimmel who married John Young Sheehy. I have 10 generations prior to Johann Michael from a paper by Beverlly Knowles Metzger of Manly, Iowa. Lois Ann McCollum
When I've looked at some of the old German Church records, they often would use a form like Kuehmle when referring to a male, and Kuehmlin when referring to a female. I don't know if this was generally the practice or not. Thanks Tim, for the "run-down. That was good. But, to get Dr. Thompson's address & contact him, is great! I have not had a reply from our Herr Helmut Mahleiwein, as yet, but expect to hear soon. Please remember me, when you hear from Dr. Thompson. I will bet with a native born wife along, we will learn some interesting details about those Gimbsheim Kimmels. Thanks for sharing! Hi all... >>>Remember Linda °Ü°s posting of Rudolf Shafer's list of Kimmels? It turns out it's a generation by generation listing. Johann Michael's grandfather Konrad is missing from the list and that caused a problem figuring it out. Fortunately I had Dr. Herman Kümmell's report to compare to. Here is how Shafer's list compares to the lineage for Johann Michael from Dr. Kümmell's work: 1) DILMANUS KUMEL is listed as a student at Erfurt 2) LUDWIG KOMEL (c1420 Neukirchen) is (a. Ludwig) 3) HEN KOMEL, DER ALT (c1450 Neukirchen) is (b. Old Hen) His brother is (c. Ludwig) 4) HEN KOMMELL, DER JUNG (c1470 Neukirchen) is (d. Young Hen) His brother is (e. Reitz) 5) HENRICH KOMEL (1493 Neukirchen) is (f. Henrich) His brother is (g. Ambrose) His brother Ambrose's son is (j. Lot) 6) LUDWIG KOEMMEL (c1515 Neukirchen) is (h. Ludwig) His brother is (i. Henry) 7) ECKART KUMMELL (1540s Neukirchen) is (m. Echart) His brothers are (k. Conrad) and (l. Jost) His brother Conrad's sons are (n. John) and (o. Helwigk) Sons of (n. John) are (t. Jonas), (u. Phillip), and probably (v. Josh) Sons of (t. Jonas) are (ff. Casper Milchoir) and (gg. Mathais) Sons of (o. Helwigk) are (w. Reinhard) and (x. Conrad) His brother Jost's son is (p. Daniel) Son of (p. Daniel) is (y. Reinhard) 8) KONRAD KUMMELL (1583 prob. Nidda) is (s. Conrad) His brothers are (q. Eberhardt) and (r. Rudolf) His brother Eberhardt's sons are (z. Conrad), (aa. Herman), (bb. John), (cc. Balthasar) and (dd. Christopher) Son of (bb. John) is (hh. John Helfrich) 9) KONRAD KÜMMELL (1610 Oppenheim) is missing in the list 10) HANS KONRAD KÜMMELL (1635 Oppenheim) is (ee. Hans Conrad) 11) JOHANN MICHAEL KÜMMELL/KIMMEL (1662 Alsheim) is (ii. John Michel) His brother is (jj. John George) ============================ >>>And remember me asking about Dr. Bill Thompson who was doing research in Gimbsheim in the 1970s? I finally located him in Hawaii. When he can get to his paperwork in Virginia (sometime in May), he'll be sending me copies of papers from his research. We'll soon learn about Johann Michael's life as Dr. Thompson understands it from the local Gimbsheim town records themselves. --Tim in Fort Wayne ====================
Please remove my name from the mailing list for a while. Thanks. I have enjoyed the association. Charlotte Apple
Pam - I recently printed out a kinship report for my brother and sister and have come to realize that in addition to being descended from Generation 4 Jacob b. 1757, we appear also to be descended from Generation 4 David b. 1763. This connection is through our grandmother, Ida Alice Meyers Kimmel (1866 - 1956), d/o Nancy Beechley Meyers (1847 - 1934), d/o John Beechly (1818 - 1886), s/o Susanna Kimmel Beeghly (1793 - 1858), d/o David Kimmel (1763 - 1827). Jacob shows on the kinship report as our 3rd great grandfather, while David is our 4th great grandfather. Their father, Philip Kimmel, Jr. (1724 - 1796) is both our 4th and 5th great grandfather. Sorry to be so long answering -- have been gone for 30 days. Charlotte Apple - desc. of Johann Phillip Do you want more than that? Charlotte
I believe there's about 35 of us listed below who have check in to connect to "their" great grandchild of Johann Michael. Now it's up to you guys to contact those 4th cousins of yours to share information with each other. It's not too late to have your name added. I'll periodically post a "Generation Four" listing, so newcomers and procrastinators can be added. Several new Kimmel researchers have joined the list recently, so I'm posting the link to Tim's website, in case anyone isn't familiar with it: http://www2.fwi.com/~tkimmel Link for AOL folks: Kimmel Family Record -- Main Menu Thanks for all your response and remember it's not to late to claim your Kimmel ancestor :-) {{{{}}}} ~ Pamela in CA (1) JOHANN MICHAEL KIMMEL (1662-1734) (2) JOHANN PHILLIP (1695-1777) (3) CONRAD (1722-xxxx) (3) J. Dawn, Per your post on KIMMEL-L at RootsWEB - You wrote - > Looking for anyone that has researched Kimmels from Ingham and Gratiot > counties , MI. I have a Wilbur Kimmel born 1900 looking for family info. > dawn > The only Michigan Kimmels I ever came across I never could place among the wider Kimmel family. They seemed to originate with a John KIMMEL b. Nov. 25, 1828 in Wayne Co OH who m. Dec. 26, 1852 to Lucy Ann INGHAM. Note this is not Ingham County as you stated. But a coincidence? They lived in Flushing, Michigan west of Flint which is present day Genesee County. All their children, last one Roy Ray Kimmel b. 1873, were born in Flushing. Perhaps some of the family migrated a little west to Gratiot or Ingham, though most of the children seemed to stay in Flushing. The names of John KIMMEL's children are given as Kendrick K. Kimmel, Jennie J. Kimmel, John J. Kimmel, Eva E. Kimmel, Bell B. Kimmel, Kenneth K. Kimmel, Edith E. Kimmel, Laura Lorreta Kimmel, and Roy Ray Kimmel Most of the Kimmel names are pre 1900. And there is no Wilbur among them. But there are enough males whose lines are not extended that your Wilbur could be a grandson or greatgrandson of John KIMMEL (above). So I can't help you now. But I'll post this on the KIMMEL List. Perhaps someone else can make a connection to this John KIMMEL. M. Jay Kimmel
