    3. Dear Tim, Wish I had an answer to your latest problem-- but, I surley dont ! But, I am wondering if you had received any new information from Dr. Bill Thompson. As I recall he would be back state-side in May. There , he would supply you the family history they got in Gimbsheim, back in the 1970's. I hope we can continue to learn about those early ancestors ! Wishing you well, Allan ----- Original Message ----- From: Timothy W. 2. Timothy W. Kimmel
    3. Here's a puzzle. Those who have seen "Records of the Kimmel and Related Families," a family history by Charles Messner, have seen the pictures of Johann Michael, Johann Philip, Henry, Peter and Singleton Kimmel. His son and cousins do not know where he found the pictures or what happened to his copies. Some relatives got miniature copies of Michael and Philip. I had been told by others that they came from the Admiral Husband Kimmel's family. An old Henderson newspaper article confirmed that the family at least had the Philip Kimmel portrait. Well, I finally got copy of the Philip Kimmel portrait associated with the Admiral Kimmel family. It is in the book "Kentucky Ante-bellum Portraiture" (pages 298-299) that I requested from the librarian at Henderson. I have posted the write-up from the book on a page of my web site at http://www2.fwi.com/~tkimmel/Doc-Antebellum.htm and the portrait at http://www2.fwi.com/~tkimmel/Phil001c.jpg . Compare to the portrait Charles Messner photographed that I posted at http://www2.fwi.com/~tkimmel/Phil001a.jpg . The pose and outfit is the same, but the portraits are obviously not the same! So I am back at square one: where on earth did Charles Messner find the portraits of Johann Michael, Johann Philip, etal. that appeared in his family history and what happened to his copies? --Tim Kimmel =================

I'm descended from a Margaret Kimmel who was married to a William Johnston. Her dates would be about 1800 - ??. I do know she was still living in 1850 when she was living with her son, Thomas. They also had a daughter, Anne Johnston, who married Melchi Hartzell. With Smiths (two different branches), Kimmels and Johnstons, I've been spending most of my time on my other surnames but anytime I find something I try to make a note of those names. Thanks. 1. [KIMMEL] Kimmel/Penrod marriages
    2. My notes say Samuel Penrod who married Jane Kimmel Penrod was s/o Solomon Penrod. Married Jane 3/2/1802 Logan Co KY. source not noted but probably Marie Boney, who descends from this line. Jane Kimmel Penrod was d/o J. Philip Kimmel Jr & Druscilla Penrod Kimmel, according to descendant Marie Boney, who edited the Reeder-Kimmel newsletter. Mariah (Mary) Kimmel, her sister, married Allen Penrod at the same time. Mariah was d/o J. Philip Kimmel Jr. & Druscilla Penrod. My notes say it was a double wedding with 2 sisters marrying 2 brothers. LDS ancestral files shows a "Patty" Kimmel marrying Allen Penrod 1802 KY. Druscilla Penrod was d/o John Penrod per Marie Boney. "Possible spouse" of Philip Jr." She Died apx 1803 KY. Children were Philip Kimmel III, Catherine Kimmel Crise, David Kimmel, Jane Kimmel Penrod, Mariah Kimmel Penrod, Daniel Kimmel, John Kimmel, Benjamin Kimmel, George Kimmel. This J. Philip Kimmel Jr. was born 1756 York County PA, died 1830 McCracken County KY according to Marie Boney. (My family's notes said Illinois but gave no date or place). Baptized 23 March 1756. Will was written 29 Dec 1829 and filed 8 March 1830, McCracken County. Marie's notes say that family story is that the Kimmel children of J. Philip Kimmel 1724 had differences following the oild man's death and that Johann Philip Kimmel 1756 left PA because of this squabble. "Whether this is true or not, the younger JPK did leave PA about that time." Marie Boney's notes in Reeder Kimmel publication says JPK 1756 was baptized by the Rev. Jacob Lichty, a Reformed minister of Bermudian Reforemd & Lutheran Union Church, Patimore Twp, Adams (York) Co., PA on 23 March 1756. Parents: Philip Kimmel & Christina. Witness Philip Kimmel 1724. Marie mentions a 2d marriage by Philip 1756 to Ann (unk. maiden name) who had previously been married to a man named Lovelace, then a Robert Hester, and lastly our Philip. Schaefer lists Druscilla Penrod as first wife, "R Bear" as 2d but gives no YOD. This woman whose name is unclear was Rebecca Bond Kimmel in our family records, which have her marrying Philip Kimmel III in Logan County KY 1/23/1807, d. 1849 Indiana. Lloyd Kimmel's notes call her Rebecca Beard.... Our family records say she married Philip III and was m/o Benjamin, George & Elijah Kimmel. Jan T

    3. There is a Bowers and Kimble(Kimmel) relationship in Va/WVa also. Look at John Bowers Sr. born in Pa below. Does he relate to any of the Bowers/Kimmels on this list? Mark E. Bowers of Harrisonburg, Va and also Pendelton County, WVa is a Kimble/Kimmel and Bowers descendant. He wrote a book Christian Bowers and His Descendants published 1991. Mark also published another book along with Nancy Hill on the Kimble and Alt Families of WVA which starts with the ADAM KIMBLE Line and his descendants. (Mark is the descendant of the Bowers, Alts and Kimble/Kimmels) ADAM was the son of JOHN KIMBLE (Johannes Kimmel) of Hampshire, Va now Grant WVA. John of Va had several sons that we know of as well as other children we do not know the names of. Those we know as follows Lambert, Jacob/John, Michael, Adam, Harmonas, George. (Lambert also had a son named George) Lambert and son George went to Fayette Co., Ohio from Va early 1800's Michael not sure where he went (Possibly is the Michael Kindle in Rockingham County, Va) Jacob/John not sure what happened to him (missing after 1798) Adam stayed in Va Harmonas went to Kentucky George I think went to Fayette Co., Ohio ( I am not sure if the George referred to in Fayette Co. Is the son or the Brother of Lambert above) (Information from Tim Kimmel of Fort Wayne & my correspondence with the descendants of the above sons of John ) 1850 Federal Census Microfilm #432-968 Pendelton County, Virginia (West Virginia) NAME AGE PLACE OF BIRTH Bowers Amanda 25 Virginia Bowers Amanda S. 4 Virginia Bowers Amos 2 Virginia Bowers Ann E. 2 Virginia Bowers Charles 7 Virginia Bowers Christian S. 27 Virginia Bowers Christina 69 Virginia Bowers Elizabeth 28 Virginia Bowers Henry 1 Virginia Bowers Ishmael 10 Virginia Bowers Jacob 33 Virginia Bowers John 27 Virginia Bowers John 4 Virginia Bowers John, Jr. 34 Virginia BOWERS JOHN,Sr. 63 PENNSYLVANIA (Born in Pa ca 1787) Bowers Lavina 5 Virginia Bowers Leah 25 Virginia Bowers Lucinda 8 Virginia Bowers Martha E. 5 Virginia Bowers Mary 24 Virginia Bowers Mary S. 4/12 Virginia Bowers Morgan C. 9 Virginia Bowers Phoebe 7 Virginia Bowers William A. 8/12 Virginia Also, on this census we have One William KIMMEL age 24 3 KEMBLE & about 20+ KELLER with the oldest listed as John born in Pennsylvania age 62 Is KELLER another variation of Kimmel in records? Kemble & Kimble are a variation of Kimmel. Some of the first names of the Keller group are known first names of Kimble/Kimmels of that time. There are no KIMBLEs listed in Pendelton County for this census I find this interesting as I know there were many in this area as well as in the adjoining county of Grant/Hardy. What are some of the unusual variations of the Kimmel name that you have seen in documents? Has Keller ever been used for a Kimmel? I know that some of the Kimmels on this list have other family names that are also associated with our Kimble/Kimmel line in Va/WVa . 1. Shook 2. Shirk 3. Synder 4. Kreider (Crider) 5. Miller (Muller) 6. Bower(s) (Bauer) 7.Site/Seitz 8.Judy Who on this list can make connections to these names through their Kimmel Line. Please let me know what your Kimmel line is also. I think that not everyone on this list has connected to the main Kimmels in Pa that the majority seems to come from. Perhaps our Va Line might be related to a Pa line. 3. I have found the name as Bowers, Bower & Bauer but mostly as Bower. They were probably born in the early 1830's. Eliza Bower was born in Ohio but I don't know where John Kimmel was born. I would appreciate any information that you may have.
