I have this quote from a book on the history of Jackson County Missouri regarding Michael Diveley, son of the above mentioned Michael Diveley. " Was born in Somerset county, Pa., December 8, 1828, and is of German descent. His father was a volunteer in the war of 1812, entering as captain, soon afther was promoted lieutenant-colonel, and subsequently became brigadier-general." I am decended through Michael & Julianna (Schwartz) Diveley's son Edward who was killed 6/14/1867 by the Kaw Indiana (scalped) as he traveled the Santa Fe Trail near Lyons Kansas. Charles Albert Diveley Charles Raudabaugh Diveley Gerry Warner Diveley Julie Diveley Townsend (me) If you should have any interesting facts regarding the schwartz family, please forward them on to me. A cousin by the name of Gail Putt has given me somethings, but you might have other stuff. Will be waiting to hear from you. Julie Diveley Townsend

I am wondering if any of these Kimmels are anyway related to the Kimmels that I have. My Kimmels are buried in Wyandotte Co. near Carey Ohio. I do not know where J.A.Kimmel came from. I am assuming from Pa. His wife was Laura Burch Kimmel. Sue Wm Schwartz wrote: > I do believe that you are right about the spelling of Dively. Edna Viola Kimmel (1876-1940) compiled a family history of the Kimmels of Harrison County, Ohio. Her list of the children of Frederick Kimmel and Elizabeth Yingling includes her uncle Joseph, "who married Caroline Dively, and after her death married Katherine Minard." Joseph and wife Katherine appeared in North Township, Harrison County, Ohio in the 1860 federal census (Joseph Kimmell) and the 1870 federal census (Joseph Kemble). Both censuses list children Mary, William, Hannah, Martha and James. The 1860 census says the children were born in Ohio, but the 1870 census say Iowa. Joseph's cousin Henry (son of Henry Kimmel and Christina Geddinger) lived in Van Buren County, Iowa and appears in the censuses there from 1850 on. I don't know of the marriage records for either of Joseph's wives. --Tim Kimmel in Fort Wayne, IN ======================== "Michael L. You data agrees with what I have. I had never seen Michael Dively given the title of General, but I do know he fought in the war of 1812. - Juliana Schwartz Dively and my g.g. grandfather Edward Schwartz were brother and sister. - I would like to know where the title of General for Michael Dively came from and anything you have about his military service. Thank you your help. What I am looking for is the marriage of Joseph Kimmel and Caroline Diveley in 1851 which took place in Van Buren County, Iowa. Caroline was born in 1828 in Berlin (Somerset Co.) PA Her parents were John Diveley and Hannah Wolf. John Diveley was the brother of Michael Diveley who married Juliana Schwartz (Her mother was a Kimmel) John Diveley and his family moved to Van Buren County, Iowa in 1845. I could not find Joseph Kimmel and his wife in the 1860 or 1870 Census of Iowa. Anyones help would be much appreciated. Thank you, Michael L. Diveley of St. Louis, MO
Can you give some dates? Too many of the kimmels in my data banks begin with a J. Thanks. Jan T
I haven't verified anything, since this isn't my Kimmel branch. However, some of my information came from Jack Schell: "Son of Martin Dively, of Berlin. Both father and son were tanners. "In the War ot 1812 he enlisted at Berlin and served from Sept 25 1812 to Nov 25 1812 as First Sergeant in Capt Casper Keller's Rifle Co., PA Militia (see PA Archives, 6th Ser VII 703, and Veterans Administration Wash DC: BL Wt.No. 62239-120-55)." "12 years after Michael's death, his widow applies for bounty land on 30 Oct 1852. She was allowed 40 acres of bounty land in Nebraska. On 17 June 1853 she sold and assigned her right to locate the warrant to Charles Heffley. "After her death, John Glotfelty and John Smith applied as guardians for Lydia Diveley (Hazelbath) and William Diveley for additional bounty land. This was on 29 June 1855. They were allowed 120 acres, in consideration of Michael Dive's service in the War of 1812. This warrant was located in Cedar County MO (NE 1/4 and W 1/2 NE 1/4 Section 7 33 N R26W. These tracts were patentted 1 July 1859. It is the understanding of Alice Smith Schell that her great uncle Edward Dively was killed by the Indians while trying to locate these tracts for his brother and sister." And in the "George" Kimmel genealogies this: "Son of Martin Dively, learned tanning trade with his father in Berlin PA to 1808 settled in Salisbury PA and established the first tannery there. Served 1 yr in the War of 1812 as Sergeant; later as Cap. In 1815 elected Lieu. Colonel of the Somerset Co. Brigade. 1821 elected Brigardier General of the 12th Military Div. bedford, Somerset & Cambria Counties. 1815 appointed Justice of the Peace which he held till his death." Hope this helps. Like I say, I didn't try to verify anything. Jan T
My information says Juliana Schwartz who married Brig. Gen. Michael Dively was herself a Kimmel . I have her father as Jacob Schwartz Sr. and her mother as Catherine Kimmel, from the George & Juliana Ruby Kimmel branch.

I am looking for the parents of Maria Rebecca Kimmel (Sept.1, 1798-Jan. 23, 1873). She married Johann George Rieth (Mar. 20, 1797-Jun 16, 1849). They are both buried at the Reedsville Cemetery in Wayne Township, Schuylkill County, Pa. I see a Maria Magdelina Kimmel (1795-1820) who married a George Reith, but besides the dates and names being different this couple is listed as being buried at the Red Church Cemetery, Orwigsburg, Pa. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Allan asked last week if I had gotten any news from Dr. Bill Thompson, who, in the 1970s, copied and reviewed municipal records at Gimbsheim. I recently found him stationed in Hawaii and he promised to find his papers when he visited his home in Virginia in May. Dr. Thompson did go to Virginia in May. But the paperwork will be involved and he plans to work on them and send me copies when he retires in 6 to 8 months. Right now, he is in Germany visiting friends, including Herr Mahlerwein in Gimbsheim. I asked Dr. Thompson to check on a couple of things if he could: see if he could find Jacob's and Philip's manumissions (permit to emigrate) at Alzey, and find what he can on the Kimmel coat-of-arms associated with a Kimmel family in Frankfurt in 1701. --Tim in Fort Wayne ============================

Happy Thursday, Kimmel Cousins ~ We have another request from someone who is looking for a lost Kimmel. Like the last one, if you have any info for Susie, please respond to her privately instead of to the list. Her e-mail address is cc:'d above. Thanks! ~ Pamela ********************************* SUSIE'S FIRST MESSAGE My last name was a Kimmel at one time. I have been searching for a Regina Marie Kimmel. We were married to Kimmel brothers back in the 60's 70's 80's. We both have children that are related as cousins and should get to know on another. She once lived in Braintree MA. divorced. No longer on record with the Mass DMV since 1981. She was born in Boston, MA 1940 Sept. 17.19, or 20. Guessing. I do not know her maiden name I tried without knowing her maiden name it seems hopeless. I do not know the names of her parents either. She was married either Chicago or Boston in the 1950s. Susie K Trevino MY RESPONSE TO HER FIRST MESSAGE I'll submit your query to the Kimmel mailing list to see if the info rings a bell with anyone. There's about 120 Kimmels on the list so who knows? If you could provide the name of Regina's ex-husband and the names of their children that might also be helpful information. SUSIE'S SECOND MESSAGE Yes, the name of Regina Marie Kimmel's ex-spouse is Billie Ray or William Raymond Kimmel. Her two daughters are Stacey Ray in her thirties now. Meredith about 27 to 29. I am sure they are married and have children and under their married names. Did attend schools in Braintree, MA, probably is remarried.
