    1. [KIMMEL] Leonard Kimmel's brothers
    2. Dan Kimel
    3. Several cousins and I have been trying to find the origins of the Kimel family in North Carolina for some time. We believe the Kimmel originator of this line arrived in Pennsylvania in the middle 1700's and migrated to North Carolina before 1770. I recently found this quote on a web site of Laura Nuenke: "Leonard Kimmel (39)(40) was born in 1741 in Germany. He died in 1825 in Rumley Township, Harrison, Ohio. History of the Leonard Kimmel Family and Descendants, presents some problems sating Leonard 1733-1825 was born in Stuttgart, Wurttemberg, Germany, but provides neither an identification of sources nor an explantation as to why the Historical Collections of Harrison County and other genealogies say 1741. This record also indicates Leonard had 7 brothers who came to America in 1758. The names are not given but settled as follows: 3 in Pennsylvania, 1 in Massachusetts, 1 in Maryland, 1 in Virginia and 1 in North Carolina." Since one of the brothers supposedly settled in North Carolina, he would be a prime candidate as the originator of our line. Unfortunately Laura Nuenke's email address is not current, and I haven't been able to contact her. Does anyone have information about the brothers of Leonard Kimmel? Dan Kimel

    3. We are the --Allan & Betty Kimmells---, that visited Gimsheim & Eich a couple of years ago. Although I have put away our maps, we were only about 1 hour from the Frankfort airport. We had rented a car, & drove there, staying 2 nights-- then we returned & spent our last night in Germany with the same Zimmer-- or, Gustehaus, owned by a Frau Helwig. Her rooms are nice enough, & her food is more than plenty! She & her husband own a winery & , of course the vinyards. She speaks pretty fair English, & we enjoyed our time with her. We also met 2 important men in Gimbsheim. One is Herr Mahlertwein, who lives not far from our Gustehous. He is the city's historian, & gave us a tour of their city cellars-- where all the records are hept.. However, he speasks no English, & we had a youn boy, that translated poorly. But, the other man we met was Herr Wilhelm, the school's English teacher! We were able to bring copies of some of the Kimmel genealogy records back with us, but, it would have been much better to have talked in German! Eich is only a very few klometers away, & there is a wonderful resturant near the Rhine river, & close to town-- its alittle hard to locate, but Frau Helwigs son-in-law led us there. We sat & ate outside & watched the water traffic on the river. I hope your visit is as pleasant as ours. It is a lovely area, & the people treated us as honored guests! If there is anymore information that we might provide-- please lets us know--, & we wish you the best! 2. Ernest W Kimmel
    3. Dear Kimmel Cousins My wife and I just spent three delightful days at the Kimmell House Bed & Breakfast in Ephrata, PA. The house was built in 1795 by Jacob Kimmel, grandson of Johann Jacob K., the immigrant. This branch of the family was actively involved with the Cloister at Ephrata. The current owners, Bonnie & Dave Harvey were excellent hosts--great breakfasts outdoors on their patio. Their phone is (800) 861-3385. This house provides a nice base for exploring the multi-faceted German heritage in Lancaster County. Ernie Kimmel

    2. Browsing Ford & Nagle's pages (and not finding anybody I was actually looking for) I found an antique photo listed for sale for LEROY KIMMEL & MOLLIE HOOK when they married at Ft. Wayne IN. I've never bought anything from Ford & Nagle but thought these folks might belong to someone on the list. Ford & Nagle's home page is http://users.erinet.com/31363/fordand.htm and their e-dress is fordnag@erinet.com snail mail 5525 Neville St., Dayton OH 45424. These folks sell antique Bibles, photos, and documents. I don't know anything about them, but if I'd found one of my family's stuff listed on there, I'd probably have sent for it. Happy hunting. 1. [KIMMEL] BROTHERS OF NICHOLAUS KIMMEL, DIED 1804, YORK CO, PA
    2. Bill and Patty Coleman
    3. Greetings from Mexico, list. We NC Kimmels are grasping at straws trying to locate our PA ancestors. Today someone sent me the following from the BRETHREN list: ANNA MARIA KIMMEL, d/o J. NICHOLAUS KIMMEL and SUSANNA WEBER... He as born 9/19/1728, DARMSTADT, GERMANY, SUSANNA WEBER born 1/23/1742. Do any of you have the names of the brothers of this J. NICHOLAUS KIMMEL and more details? Are all of them accounted for? We're stuck with the husband of CATARINA KIMEL EVANS MYERS in NC. Her first husband is our mystery. The date for J. NICHOLAUS is about right. Also, the son of CATARINA KIMEL above, BERNHARD/BARNEY KIMEL, b. abt. 1770, married CATARINA WEAVER or WEBER, b. 1771. I'm interested in following any leads on both KIMEL and WEBER in PA. Thanks and hope to hear from some of you. Patty

Because of the birthdate, I would assume we're talking about the same person here. One of his brothers, Michael, is my direct ancestor, which is why I have some info on this particular line. This is what I have for J. Nicholaus' siblings: Conrad b. 1722 Johann Philip b. 1724 (Johanh Nicholaus fits in here) Maria Christina b. 1731 Anna Maria Elizabeth b. 1732 Jacob b. 1734 Michael b. 1736 Anna Margaretha b. 1738 George b. 1743 Anthony b. 1745 Kep in mind that I gathered alot of this info from the Family Search program of the LDS church. Most of it is UNVERIFIED. I'd be happy to send you a GEDCOM file if you want all the info on the spouses, children, etc. Also, Tim are you out there? Tim can probably confirm whether the info I have is correct or not. ~ Pamela (Kimmel) Westfall in sunny CA :-)

    1. [KIMMEL] Kimmel Horner (Somerset Co PA to Ontario)
    2. Yes, surprise, surprise, I do find An Anna Maria Kimmel who married a Horner in my data base. According to my (uninvestigated and unproved) records, she was d/o J. Nicholaus Kimmel and Susanna Weber. Dates I have for Anna Maria are b 12/2/1768, presumably Somerset Co. PA, d 3/8/1852 Ontario, York Co. Markham Twp. DOM is c1788 Somerset Co.? Buried SE corner of home, Markham Twp, York Co., Ontario, Canada. I didn't write down my sources for any of this. (Austin Cooper's 200 Years of the Church of the Brethren in Brothersvalley 1762-1962 sounds like a good likely source and might well have these folks included in their notes on the various Brethren migrations.) However, Laurel Messenger, my notes say, deals with this family in its 11/86 issue. Says Daniel Horner Sr. died 13 June 1825 and was buried on the SE corner of his property Markham Twp. His wife Anna Maria (Kimmel) Horner died 8 Mar 1852 and was buried beside him. Shortly after their arrival in Canada, the Horners joined the Heise Hill Dunkard Church. Later generations were active in the Dunkard Community in Markham Twp. "For more information contact Steve Marshall, 434 Dellwood Dr., Orillia, Ontario, Canada L3V 209," but this was a 1986 note. First six children were born Quemahoning Twp, Somerset Co. PA. "About 1805-6 following the lead of Christian Troyer, Daniel moved his family from Somerset Co. to Mark Twp... Daniel settled in 1807 on lots 20 and 21, Conc 2, Markham Twp." Descendants of Daniel and Anna Maria still live in and around the area, it said (1986). Anna Maria's parents, according to my Kimmel records, were J. Nicholaus Kimmel, born 9/19/1728 Darmstadt (Germany), died 1804 York Co.PA.; and Susanna Weber born 1/23/1742. They m. 1758. no DOD for her and no parents. J. Nicholaus Kimmel was a s/o Johann Philip Kimmel (1695-1777) and Anna Elizabeth Voltz (c1695-1755), and we have ancestry etc. on these Kimmels way back. Anna Elizbaeth Voltz was d/o Andrew Voltz from Darmstadt. She died in Germany, and Johann Philip Kimmel then emigrated with his remaining family to PA to join his brothers, who had emigrated earlier. Does this help? Jan T
