    3. The best way to find out is the Paternal DNA. This only works from father to son. So you would need to get the DNA of a descendant of Thomas Kigore and another from a descendant of Robert Kilgore. This can only be father, to son to son, to son. The DNA passed this way changes little if any in 14 generations time. So the DNA of a direct father to son to son, etc. should be the same DNA as the parent Father. Hence, if the 2 descendants DNA are the same or a very very close match, then they could be brothers. But realize-- what if they are cousins and have a common grandfather? Then the DNA result would pretty much look the same. Would Maternal DNA help? Well, all children of a mother have the same mRna, but only the daughters pass it on. From daughter to daughter to daughter. So this may not be as helpful. There are some other misc DNA markers which may be helpful in providing the area of Great Britain where other people with the same markers have, but not in determining brother relationships. Our family however is turning to DNA to help solve our Kilgrow line (which is why I read this Kilgore list) We think that the name originally was Kilgore at some point, so if some of you do do a DNA analysis, we would be interested in comparing the data. Where was this Robert Kilgore at in VA in 1730? The earliest Robert Kilgore in VA I have is the one listed on a muster roll in 1758 Frederick Co VA. If there's an earlier one, I must've missed him. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> > To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2008 11:14 AM> Subject: Re: [KILGORE] DNA> > > > If the DNA of a male descendant of each of these men match, it will show > that they share a common ancestor but would not necessarily connect the two as > brothers.
