My brick wall is John Gray. It is said but not really known that John's father might have been a Walter Gray. I have heard rumors that Walter Gray may have been one of about four Gray brothers that migrated from PA. My ancestor stopped in Virginia where John was born. It is rumored that the other Gray brothers moved further south into Kentucky. There are numerous Kilgore marriages in my Grays. And eventually some of John's children/grandchildren moved to Kentucky. Some moved to Ohio. John was born abt 1776 in VA and married Martha Broadwater about 1805. John's daughter, Elizabeth, married Robert Kilgore III, March 1813. I have been told that Nancy Gray (supposedly John's sister) married Ralph Kilgore about 1798. It is also said that John's niece married Charles Kilgore. These would all be descendents of this mysterious Walter Gray who seperated from his brothers in VA while they traveled further. If anyone can give me any information or confirmation of any of my data, it would be very much appreciated. I have been at this brick wall for years! I have the following on the Grays: Nancy Gray's father was Walter Gray, born Dec. 9, 1753 in Barony, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, wife unknown. Three know siblings of Nancy were Walter Gray, Jr., Isaac Gray and John Gray. His father was Archibald Gray (Grey).born April 29, 1722 in Baronty, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, m on March 2, 1749 Christian Steuart, b April 1726 Barony, Glasgor, Lanark, Scotland, dau of Walter Steuart and Christian Fairy. Archibald's father was William Gray, b Dec. 22, 1695 in Barony, Lanark, Scotland and m Dec 22, 1720 in Barony, Lanark, Scotland Margaret Patoun b Dec. 12, 1703 in Lanark, Lanark, Scotland. Margaret's parents were Thomas Patoun b August 21, 1662 in Lanark, Lanark, Scotland and m on Oct 18, 1698 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, Henen Scot b Feb 2, 1668 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. William Gray's parents were John Gray b Oct 30, 1662 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland and m July 8, 1686 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Jean Pateson b April 25, 1667 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Both are buried in Lanark, Scotland. John Gray's parents were James Gray b August 3, 1644 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland and m abt 1662 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Helen Widwell b Sept 1641 Glasgow, Lanark, Scottland, dau of John Widwell, b 1627 Lanark, Scotland and m abt 1641 in Lanark, Scotland Jonat Hall b Jan 18, 1627 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Jonat Hall's parents were Gilbert Hall abt 1599 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland and m abt 1626 in Lanark, Scotland Catherine Scot b abt 1599 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Both are buried in Lanark, Scotland. James Grays' parents were Robertt Gray b in 1596 in Lanark, Scotland m abt 1620 in Lanark, Scotland, Margaret Mellor b abt 1600 in Lanark, Scotland. Robert Gray is the earliestg Gray I could find of this family. The earliest Gray of this family I found was Robert Gray.
