I too am researching my family, Both sides, and Arena L. Kilgore who married Wilson D. Cantrell is my ggrandmother. I have tried many sourses to find why the spelling from Kilgour to Kilgore came about. Would you hppen to know. I suspect that coming from ship to Ellis Island may have a part in the change. Making it sound more American perhaps?... Be well, my Regards Rena. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi, Spelling was not critical in the early days. I have copies of Patrick Kilgore's will ( he died in 1808) where within the document Kilgore is spelled three ways.. One just has to be creative in spelling names and remember that educational levels and life in general were very different from things in 2009. My Kilgore's were early arrivals in PA- about 1720-James and Elizabeth Jack Kilgore were one set of my 7th great grandparents. Have fun as you research.....it never really ends.
