With so many variables, I think I'm better off at this point to stick to "the brothers" & save alternate fathers for later. Based on Gabriel Lea Kilgore's letter, I have four PROBABLES: (1) Thomas [c1745-1822] of Robertson Co, (2) your Charles [c1740-1783], (3) William of GA, & (4) Ralph. Based on the 36/37 match between (I think) your brother & a descendent of Stephen [1767-1841], s/o Robert/Winney, I would add Robert [c1735-1782], Winnie's spouse as a 5th probable. Gut judgement leads me to add two POSSIBLES, Hiram & James. Incidentally DNA results to me are a little clearer if I substitute "years" instead of "generations" to define the Most Likely Estimate (MLE) for the time when the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) would have lived, FTDNA in their definition of terms say they use 25 yrs/generation. In their package with results, they say their population geneticist feels that 25-30 years best expresses a typical generation in post dark age periods. The 90% probability of 8 generations for a 36/37 match equates to 200-240 yrs. Thanks again for your reply.
