The graph indicates a best guess based on the AVERAGE rate of mutation. The ACTUAL mutations occur either more or less frequently in real life. So someone 10 generations removed may have 2 mutations and another person, also 10 generations removed, may have 3, so the program that makes the graph will guess that the person with 3 mutations is 13 generations removed instead of 10.
