There are many renditions of Kilgour Arms and since they are confered to specific individuals that it is only correct that there be markrs of cadency. It takes a real professional and what we find gives the appearances of everything but professional. Here is the root of it all. Thwe description for arms for a Kilgour were first listed in very old manuscripts known as the Armorial of Sir Robert Foreman of Luthrie. He is a successor to Sir David Lindsay of the Mount. They were written in the early 1500's and fortunately preserved as a result of the entire armoiral being present to Queen Mary. It is ufortunate, however, they the description does not indicate who they were given to. I am of the opinion that they were described more for the purpose of identifying who the first Kilgour's were, meaning what family they came from. The description of the arms is very specific and while I have my own preference about how they should look, it is only that and a professional must be used to artfully describe and perhaps someone from the Lyon Kings office could recommend a list of qualifies people. The office is located in Edinburg and there is a nice article about the Lyon King and Registry in this months "Scottish Life". Here is th! e description as written in the armorial. There is nothing more or less and they are amongs the oldest records of the Lyon Kings Office. "Argent, a wyvern displayed sable with wings displayed within a bordure inwardly circular of the last chanrged with three crescents of the first". Roy E.
