There are two (at least) Samuel Kilgores who could be your man, each of them was a descendant of Elijah Kilgore, b. abt. 1815, in TN, died in GA in 1891. I think it is likely that the Samuel you seek was the son of Jefferson Davis Kilgore, and a grandson of Elijah Kilgore. Jefferson Davis Kilgore himself was murdered. This Samuel was said to have been the meanest man on the planet, and went to jail for throwing a man from a moving train. This according to information told to me at a Kilgore family reunion in Trenton GA in early 2000s. No other proof of that legend was offered by the family, as I don't think they were particularly proud of this great uncle of theirs. The other Samuel was said to have also been a grandson of Elijah Kilgore (1815-1891), and he married a Rogers. Hope this helps, though it's not a happy message to deliver. Sorry.
