To the best of my knowledge... I have seen Amanda Scott (Sept 1833-abt 1845) listed as Polly (Ann or Mary) Scott's sister, BUT Polly was born about 1815 and the children of her mother's second marriage come before that. (I think Polly was born later because her mother's 1805 YOB seems right. Although it is possible Betsey gave birth at age 10*, it is highly unlikely.) Polly's parents were for sure Elizabeth "Betsey" Copeland (born abt 1805) and a man named (possibly JK) Scott . Betsey's second husband was Capt. John W. Kilgore. She had 6 kids with him from 1823-1835. Elizabeth "Betsey" Copeland was at least 1/2 indian. Her father was James Copeland and he died after 1851. I don't have a clue who her mother was. Betsey's full sister, Catherine "Katie" Copeland, is also my direct ancestor. Cousin Dennie * Into the 1990s, it was not uncommon for 10-12 year olds to have babies in Gadsden Co., Florida. Usually the father was an older relative... SICK, but true. The girls didn't see anything wrong with it, since their father is also their grandfather or uncle, etc. Yes, they have many mental and physical problems. Why aren't the older men thrown in jail? Don't ask me. I tried unsuccessfully to get them prosecuted for years. No one seemed to care.
Thanks Dennie, Elizabeth "Betsy" Copeland's mother was ANN CAMERON. Finally, I get to give YOU SOMETHING! One of Ann's relatives also married a Copeland. There is a ged file on ancestor.com called ???Swallows on world connect, and she is listed there. I would have to leave here and look up any other particulars, so let me know if you want anything else on that. I have most of the othe Copeland info you wrote about....you gave it to me about a year ago! Thank you, thank you. There were so many Polly Scott's during that time, whew.
