Don't these people have anything better to do with their time??? I received an e-mail from a friend with a virus that was passed on to her. Her PC was infected and since I was in his address book it had probably been spread to my computer. I followed the instructions and located the virus. By following the instructions, I was able to delete the virus. The bad news is that you are in MY address book! More bad news is that my anti-virus, recently updated, did not detect this virus. My apologies. Just follow these instructions and their shouldn't be any further issues. Rumor has it that this virus lies dormant for 14 days and then kills your hard drive. If this is a work PC contact your computer guru if no here is what you do. 1. Go to "Start". Then to "Find" or "Search" (depending on your computer) 2. In the "Search for files or folder" type sulfnbk.exe --this is the name of the virus. 3. In the "Look in" section, make sure you are searching Drive C. 4. Hit "Search" or "Find." 5. If your search finds this file, there will be an ugly black icon that will have the name sulfnbk.exe. DO NOT OPEN THIS FILE!!!! 6. If it does not show up on your first "Search," try a "New Search." 7. Right click on the file. Go down to "Delete" and left click. 8. You will be asked if you want to send the file to the Recycling Bin -- click yes. 9. Go to your Desktop (where all of your icons are) and right click on the Recycle Bin and either manually delete the sulfnbk.exe virus or empty the entire bin. 10. If you found the virus on you system, send this or a similar e-mail to all in your address book because this is how it is transferred. --- Joseph T. Krol --- josephkrol@earthlink.net
David and Joseph, Jan 03, 2002 DO NOT DELETE the item that you are calling sulfnbk.exe What sulfnbk.exe really is is part of Microsoft Windows. It allows you to save a text file or .jpg or .gif with a name longer than eight digits. EXAMPLE with window sulfnbk.exe: 1. CharlesPenley.doc 2. CharlesPenley.jpg 3. CharlesPenley.gif 4. Kilgore-L.doc EXAMPLE with windows sulfnbk.exe removed: 1. Charles~ 2. Penley~ 3. Kilgor~ Please check with Norton Antivirus and they will tell you that the below email is a HOAX and how to replace sulfnbk.exe back into windows. To many people take things at face value in an email and do not check it out first. Go to symantec's own web page, the are the owners of Norton Anti-virus. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html Your cousin, Charles Penley ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Kilgore" <Davidk1@accucomm.net> To: <KILGORE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 03, 2002 6:58 PM Subject: [KILGORE] Fw: Virus Alert!!! > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Joseph Krol > To: josephkrol@earthlink.net > Sent: Thursday, January 03, 2002 6:00 PM > Subject: Virus Alert!!! > > > > Don't these people have anything better to do with their time??? > > I received an e-mail from a friend with a virus that was passed on to her.
